That single english server is pure idiocy that simply can't be justified. I wouldn't mind playing on a german server but I maybe want to meet up with international friends and therefore kinda HAVE TO join that english server like probably many others too.
Gosh... I really hope they'll add at least 3-4 more of those maybe.
I got in straight away at 4pm GMT when then Beta opened. Created a Jedi and then immediately logged out to create a Sith so I could get my names (I know its only a beta and its gonna be wiped - whatever).
This was foolish. Dont log out once you are in. There are over 4000 people queuing for the 1 English EU server

There were 3 NA and 3 EU a few days ago, they took them all down and left one up to see the capacity it can hold. Remember people - this is a stress test!

That is a very good point. But it is also the first chance a lot of people are going to have to see the game. First impressions in an mmorpg are very important and one english speaking server is harsh. I understand. just saying I hope they know what they are doing.
By the way... if you decide you want to try another class you should be aware that..
for a few days now the logout feature isn't working. Logging out will simply put you on the little gear screen until you close the client. Going to desktop may work or it may act like nothing happened and you remain in game.
I just mention this because if you decide to try something else you might end up waiting again. Or you might get lucky since you are actually still logged in.. in both cases above the character you were on is still logged in. You have to get back to character select and quit out again or sometimes changing server and then back works. <- edit note that's just if you really want to play something else, you can simply log back into the still online character as well.
Just figured those that are waiting might want to be aware.
Welcome to Stress Test. I know first impression is important but in the cases of closed beta it doesn't matter. The developers know what they are doing with the numbers of servers versus the numbers of players. I won't be surprised when when they bring the game down for maintenance later today and then when everyone logs on more servers will be up. Friday is the stress test but the main focus of this weekend is bugs and exploits.
If you were trying to get into beta to play the game as a free trial then you're only setting yourself up for disappointment. I wish most beta tests were full of people who actually test the game for QA purposes. I get tired of looking at chat and seeing the SWTOR/WoW comparisons.
"If at first you don't succeed, excessive force is probably the answer."
Keep in mind everybody that some recent game came with the fps-menu bug.
Unless you have vsync on, your video card may render like 1000k fps in the menu. I'm tabbed out all the time while i wait, but tabbing back in i can hear my video card's fans start to howl.
Waiting hrs in queue may result in some crashing PCs or fried cards this weekend.
So better keep an eye on your temps if you want to wait 5hrs in the menu.
The servers filled up fast. Logged in to set up screen resolution etc and half the US servers were just heavy load, shut it down to add the Anti-Aliasing line to the settings file and everything showed full when i brought it back up. Could still get in fine without a queue though just clicking on a random PvP server.

I got your point and it's valid.
But on my part, to be honest i have no real interest in testing a product for a multimillion-dollar company.
I just want to have a good time and see if the game could possibly be worth my money.
The purpose of this test is two-fold. For one, it's a stress test for BioWare to see how well their servers hold up to an onslaught of players. Secondly, it's a marketing tool to increase the buz surrounding their product. The real beta testing is/was ongoing and not just every ther weekend.
That said, I feel like BioWare is going to have some major issues at release if they don't get certain things sorted out. I never had problems in the last beta test, but today I log in and there are some NPCs that I can't take quests from. I just sit there with "..." over my head forever. I attributed this to lag, and I didn't think it was a big issue until I ran into the same problem when trying to finish the main story. I submitted a bug report like any good beta tester but THEIR TICKET SYSTEM WAS DOWN, so I just loggged off. Well, now I'm stuck at the splash screen and can't even get back to character select.
Of course, then there's texture pop-in, and the game still craps a brick every time it's around multiple players.

Im in game but theres no servers to select!?
Only 1 EU english server? That can not be right...well only 3900 people waiting before me.
They sent me an email saying it started tommorow?
edit: OOps nvm, different test I'm thinking of
Yeah, had a bit of a jaw droping moment when I saw that also. Im about 2500 atm. Well, guess it is a stress test. May try a us server.

WTH only 1 English EU server? Craziness

Hmm, I am 3200th in queue atm. Even if stess testing, only 1 English European server does seem kinda harsh.
Hope they add some more soon
My invitation said I don't get access until tomorrow.
What a joke.
Up to 13hrs queue.

They are doing this weekends Beta in "waves". ie. some people will only be able to log in on Sat.

Hmm can't even see the servers in the server menu....
I logged in as fast as the client let me & 5000 in queue, give it an hour & it'll be 10x that lmfao.
Stress test of the queueing system in progress, Captain!!
Decided to watch the whole intro movie
Not that smart as there was only one EU english server, got position 4000 in the queue, decided to play US servers.
Got intoo the game created an isquisitor and walked out intoo the world
When i got outside there was the usual huge crowd, to many people there for sure and ....
Then i crashed
I restarted the game and got in again, noticed it starts by default at 1024&768, changed to monitor resolution and giving it a try again.

Just seen 3 more offline servers pop up in the server list. Perhaps they are getting ready to fire them up.

I have run into the only thing that will keep me from playing this game. Queues! Graaaagharrrrraaaaghgh!
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
