Darkspace - better than eve in my opinion

daveospicedaveospice Member UncommonPosts: 366

I love darkspace, and when it comes to fun factor I play eve and dark and dark is way more fun.  Eve you spend so much time flying around, waiting on skills, or mining...  in dark you can log in play a game for a few hours and feel accomplished.  I don't know, maybe I prefer the play and finish in one sitting games... since the longer more drawn out ones are just drawn out...  and not in any way more fun to me.

one thing eve does have on darkspace is better graphics, and more ship options for customization.

It's just sad that darkspace doesn't get much recognition, so it's populations are really low.

The game's free (you can play as much as you want in demo mode) and you get afree trial for a week, and if you want to gain prestige (better ships) you can pay 5 bucks a month.

Might as well try the demo!

Bah, what'd I do? :) I don't even like EVE and I've played both Darkspace and Eve. I was just pointing out that I think he is nuts saying Darkspace is better than EVE.

I tried it and quit after about 15 minutes. It seemed like a great game, but it was just too confusing to figure out.

If you like DarkSpace, you should also try Starport.

I tried EvE, Darkspace, and Starport. All three are intresting games. EvE is best in the very longrun, and obviously has the most superior graphicsimage. DS is basically EvE but with smaller ships, smaller universe, and a smaller budget. image Starport's strengths is in its features - like landing on planets, taking over other players planets, etc....

All three games are mostly space only MMORPGs.

A very special mention for: Freelancer!  It has everything EvE has, plus many different features. But it is mostly a RPG game. Though it can also be played online Diablo II style with 10 to 300 players on a hosted server.

The only thing better than EVE is Microsofts Freelancer, ease of use it is expansive but not an MMO. If MS made a Freelancer 2 as an MMO EVE would be in trouble, no questions about that.

LOL Freelancer is a single player RPG space game that tried to be the successor to Privateer/Elite but failed because they locked you into the story instead of letting you do your own thing.

It's a "Decent" GAME but an MMO it is not. I wouldn't even label it an RPG.

It's a Multiplayer FPS Space Combat game that has Trading on the side but no crafting or anything like that.

It's a decent game but hardly in the league of any of the current Sci-Fi MMO's that allow space combat/travel.

It is nice that up to 300 players can play on a dedicated hosted server and some of them stay that way but there's no real guild system in it and no real point to playing other than to run around blowing each other up.

Thing I dont like about EvE is:

    1. you cant get out of the ship so you are pretty much a space ship.

    2. its not true 360 degrees of space its just space wallpaper.

    3. when you first start out its hard to get hooked because how boring it seems.

I have tried multiple trials for Eve and its always the same I start out all alone fly to a rock and mine fly to a robot pirate ship and shoot him automatically from any angle.

Im waiting for a sci-fi game to come out that lets you control the ship during combat like in wing commander 3-4 then be able to get of the ship any time I want be it on an asteriod or dead space to go out and repair damage.

    There is:
    Star Wars Galaxies: Total Experience
Well... you can't just get out in space or whatever but you can land on planets and they're adding capitol ships and space stations. Suspect that's going to be the next expansion.

Spaceflight is a-la X-Wing and Tie Fighter titles, very much like Wing Commander combat.

It's not for everyone but if you liked wing commander's space combat you'll like space combat in SWG.

Er, I have Freespace 2, and it does indeed rock the box, but it's a space sim, not an MMORPG.

Then I'm guessing you've never heard of Freelancer: TNG.
