In case anyone has the same question I did, but doesn't want to dig through the article:  Maple Story is the affected game.

Curious as to why it says "subscribers" of a game instead of players considering the game is f2p.

Regardless if it's F2P or not.  Personal info and maybe credit card info is involved.  I'd be surprised if the latter info wasn't taken too.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Good thing I've never used my credit  card with any of these F2P  games.

Maybe registered users would have been more appropriate. Then again, the source is reuters, not really an MMO site so it's hard to blame them.

A lot of people chose to focus on SoE as inept, and while they may have been hackers would likely have gotten in anyway.  Not an MMORPG, but Steam is an even bigger hack than SoE.  I also think too many WoW accounts have been compromised to blame it on phishing or people being careless.   Anyone that wrote off the SoE hack as a Sony thing was just being an idiot.

until I can get a credit card under the name of Yohan C McFlubberduffy with a $100 credit limit, I won't be storing any payment info on any games servers.  Do those VISA gift cards work for online payments?

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Before I had a credit card I used them all the time, never had any problem. With how things are going I should perhaps switch to them once again for security.

Well, you know, if we ignore the fact that SOE had all the information stored in plain text then that would be the case.  Steam's info is encryped and salted.

But just keep telling yourself its the same thing.

Not remotely surprised. On my laundry list of  complaints about Nexon was that they couldn't even be bothered to encrypt their login process for their sites and forums. Anyone who wants to plunge into the jaws of a Nexon game had best set up a separate account for posting on forums, and find the game's actual .exe to avoid logging into the game through the website.

There is no such thing as a secure computer or network if the hacker is skilled and determined enough. The Pentagon, CIA, FBI have all been hacked at one point. Computers would have to be redesigned from the ground up to make them truely secure.

Exactly and that's why i always try to give the least possible (true) information i can and use the most secure payment methods (which means pre-paid cards or paypal if pre-paid cards isn't possible)

Where have you been the past few months? :)
