I got into a beta weekend back on the weeked of the 11th.... but skyrim had just came out... so i managed to log in and play for maybe a half an hour and decided that I was having more fun with skyrim.
Later I regretted that because that was my chance to play the game before it releases and make a decision.
Then I got invited to the beta that is going on right now and I was stoked.
I tried really really hard to like this game. Really I did...
The graphics are fantastic. Then animations suck a bit but not too bad. The scenery and ground clutter is awesome.
The voice acting and cutscenes are great... as always the dialog choices are bioware grade and I always had to stop and think for a second everytime I had to make a decision.
I even disagree with the common concensus that the character creation is bad... i thought there were plenty enough choices to feel unique.
....but i just cant play it. Its the same thing its always been. There is no auto attack but that doesnt make much difference... if you ever played a caster class in any of the other tab targetting mmos you are used to it anyway.
It just feels like Wow leveling did... everyone is running around but no one is talking to each other... no one is playing together... everyone is just killing the same 10 seperatists or disabling the same 3 jammers or rescuing the same padawans from cages and not saying a word to each other.
I helped a guy clear some baddies from around a cage and he opened and got the credit for it... even though i was standing right there. He was there first though so i didnt want to take his objective.
It's sad... with all that money something really special could have been made... but its not special... not at all. Its just another high school kid wearing abercrombie, plaid shorts and burkenstocks... nothing to see here.

I felt pretty similar on most points. The only thing is; there is things to see here. For those who really enjoy storyline, I think the dialogue and class stories will really envelope them. Those who are looking for reasons to group together, I find it fairly limiting.
I think plenty of people will find SWTOR very fun and enjoyable for all it has to offer.
I don't think anyone groups or chats much in the first few levels in any game... (DING 1!) . In beta you're supposed to be trying to plow through the game and report bugs to make the game better, anyway. Not really sure why you seem to think it's your free download to social hour.
some of your points are correct but I was thrilled when at lvl 4 i got a few groups quests. I spamed for a group and in 10 seconds we formed a group and played for about 1 hour together in this area that is made for groups (not an instance). It was great fun. I love group quests, Lotro used to have tons but most of them they nerfed, Wow doesn't sem to have any. So for me that will make leveling much more fun.
After the starter worlds all i see in chat is people forming groups for quests, group quests or take down world bosses. From your post it doesn't sound like you really tried it like you claim but rather pottered around in the starter area then formed conclusions about the rest of the game.
There we go I fixed that part that made you seem like a douche.
Anyways you could be right... i think that if that social aspect was there is probably would have kept me playing longer for sure. The combat, however, just seems so lack luster to me. Its true that they tend to through 3-4 mobs where others before only threw 1 and that does spice it up a little but its still very meh....

Not meaning to nitpick but I said that I tried to like it... I didnt say I pushed through to endgame and am now forming an opinion based on the highest tier of gaming wisdom.
Im just saying that the way the quests work, the way combat flows and the social aspects of the game I find lackluster. Spamming for groups seems stupid when there are better ways

It was cool and all for World of Warcraft to add lightsabers and some cutscenes to their MMO, but I am tired of the game already.
I think its difficult to put my finger on what the problem is exactly. I get the impression its difficult for a lot of people, because of this sort of comment - that it's too much like other MMOs.
I don't know, though. It kind of feels that way, but on the other hand, I'd go back to WoW or Rift in a heartbeat, before playing TOR, and those are two games that really epitomize the whole "just more of the same" thing. I don't like them much, but they do manage to be at least somewhat entertaining, on that basic level of quest grind MMO gameplay.
With TOR, its like they put so much thought into the story, cutscenes, and voice acting, but didn't have ANY sort of gameplan when it came to just making it fun to kill stuff and level up - nevermind break that mould in any way. Seems to me, you'd have to REALLY love the story elements for TOR to be entertaining at all.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I'm aleady yawning and getting bored. Going back to Skyrim. I'll still get the game at some point but the reasons OP mentioned are starting to hit home. Just run to point a then b then c...constant agro. Seems very superficial and single playerish. Skyrim is a better single player experience but it isn'tt Star Wars.
I think I'll log on a bit maybe later...I don't know. I was excited for a bit but I know what excites me and I know when I am starting to get bleary eyed and yawning what that means. I hope others are having fun. I have read some up beat posts.
I dont get that feeling at all.
It was also, "What button would show me my abilities? Well, what is it in WoW?" kinda thing too.
If it weren't Star Wars, it'd be The Generic Republic.
I might get the game still... but the excitement has faded for me
I don't mind seeming like a douche and you don't speak for me. You seem to place an inappropriate amount of emphasis on the amount of care given to some guy who's only playing a beta to get an advance understanding of the game mechanics and "feel". This is not the spirit of any beta and you need to get over yourself.
I know this doesn't apply to many, but the fact how generic the game is if you're into the SW hit me when I was doing Saber quest.
I grouped with a player to do heroics somewhere on the starter planet (can't remember the name). I asked if he would want to run the quest through with me and he told he hadn't the quest and if I would tell where to get it.
I couldn't remember. I hadn't slightest idea where I got the quest or if it was a followup to some other quest. Everything had just blurred into a mess of voice overs and spacerapping and I'm talking about the epic thing like getting your tool as a Jedi.
What I'm trying to say here, is you need to be interested in the story and Star Wars if you want to feel the epicness of this game. If you try to play it as a MMO-game you're probably not going to get hooked.
