And I must say I fell in love with it all over again. I've played games from WoW to EVE over the years, and I haven't felt this much enjoyment out of a game in a long long time. I love the free sandbox style play and all the new added features since the last time I played (2002-2003 era). I highly recommend checking it out again if you were a fan back in the day!

On a side note, any other games that are similiar to Runescape? Idc if its F2P or P2P. Preferrably something sandboxy.

I know what you mean, the same thing has happened to me.

and I'm not sure if there are, I know I've looked before (not for quite a while), and I haven't heard of/ seen any other games like Runescape. (I've heard EVE is the most similar, but I haven't played it myself..and I don't know how similar it actually is)

I tried eve a while back and wasn't too impressed. It seemed empty. Hopefully mmos will go back to this style and stop trying to copy WoW.

What sandbox style gameplay? If anything it got less sandboxy than it already wasn't.

and all the new added features since last time I played (2002-2003 era).

Yea no more party drops, trade limit or pking sounds super fun. The only worthy update was the "graphics update" (updated from 16bit to 16.5bit).

Sorry to shoot down your Runescape love plane but this game definately got worse imo.

Consider doing research. Runescape has improved its graphics tremendously for a java based browser game. Also FYI, the trade limit and wilderness has been reimplemented. So get your facts straight. Runescape is a fun MMO with lots to do, it can be really fun when you find the right community as well.

I'll consider it next time. It's still Runescape.

Well at least they brought those back since that was all I ever really enjoyed when I used to play back in 6th grade. Still just not my style of game though anymore.

There is nothing which can even come close.  In RS there is so much to do that all the other games feel empty comparing to it. And I searched a lot and tried a lot....

so many skills etc noone other game can offer. I like slow style of RS, no need to make 1k clicks per sec. =D
If you don't do boss fights every min, all others stuff is easy & relaxing, nice to do it while working etc.

try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2

You should try Ultima Online sometime. I think you'd find it to be a nice alternative to RS.

I'm sure I'd love it if it was 3D...I tried a lot of 2D games, but unfortunately I just can't get used to them.

Well, they do have a new, updated client that's semi-3D, but it might not be close enough to what you're looking for. I think it's called the "stygian abyss client" or "enhanced client".  It also gives the option to zoom in.

I couldn't find any really good videos, but here's a couple that show the new client a little -

Yeah, I haven't played in about 4-5 years myself and just returned. I was very surprised at how much the game has progressed both graphically and content wise since I last played. I had to make a new account as I can not seem to access my old one and was very surprised at the fact that the tutorial island system has been replaced with the new Task System. Much better in my honest opinion as It doesn't just dump you off the island now with no real direction anymore. The task system not only teaches you the game but also sets itself up as the tool you'll use to guide you through your whole Runescape experience. Very slick.

I'd have to say that I'm very impressed and will probably get a membership again. Hopefully they will run with these improvements and continue to make a good sandbox great far into the future.

Edit: Well it took me about 2 hours to get totally disgusted with the community on the free servers(The gold spammers in particular) so I got a membership. Within 20 minutes of entering the members servers I found a very helpful Clan. The differences between the Free and Members communities are quite dramatic. If anyone is thinking of trying this game or returning as I did I would highly recommend a membership. It only costs 6 bucks (I spend more on coffee in a typical day) and the experience is so much better.

I did try it and I liked the quests quite a bit, but the control scheme is awkward to say the least, I love wasd and to have to click or use the arrows is unsatisfying, there is a game I was looking at called A mystic Land which is like runescape but wasd however a bit cartoony
