Considering giving this game a go...

Is there much to do in the game? especially after reaching max level?

Also, whats the community like? And it's 8.99 a month isn't it?

    Nope.

If you buy a year in advance, then it's closer to that.

    If you pay monthly, $14.99.

I wouldnt advise anyone to start with anything greater than a3 monthsub (assuming you like trial). There is a very large amount of people that lovedthe game initially and grew bored after a few months.  Obviously many people continue to play past then, but Rift is a polarizing game, even among the people that start ou loving it.

Yeah, I don't advise people on the specific payplans. I bought a six month sub and didn't use a lot of that before I got bored.

Plus you never know what their specific income availability might be. I buy Lifetimes whenever I can (when they are offered) if I think the game will have a chance at a longterm life after everything is taken into account, but I certainly wouldn't advise most people to get one.

I was just giving him the facts about the pricing. There aren't many games giving a sub less than $10 and Rift certainly isn't one of them.

Which equals £8.99. I just checked on the site.

    Agreed.

Free trial, then a month and after that it is time to consider a one year sub.

I think almost every single person I know that pays a year in advance with little or no trial I know have regretted it later, it is like a gym membership.

The 7 extra bucks for that months sub is so worth it.

Rift is a fine game BTW but it offers little new. I really reccommend you to try it, but not to just start with a full years sub unless you have far too much money.

I don't know about you guys but there ain't that many games that kept me for more than a year, at least not compared to the ones that lasted me a few weeks.

Ohhh you were talking about pounds. Notice my dollar sign.

I thought you were talking about real money like dollars like most of the world does. /wink

Basically, there is not much to do before reaching max level ;)

After three to five days played you are 50, then you go farm instances (be warned, they have a cross server dungeon finder), and then you go farm raid instances with your guild.

Apart from that you have daily quests, there are rifts in the open world that can be farmed for a while, there are invasions of npc armies in all zones, and there are world events that give you fluff gear, mounts etc.

It is worth the subscription, best game in 2011 for sure. But, if you don't like raiding, it will not last too long.

    Currently playing: EverQuest
Waiting for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

The npc armies invasion sounds cool. I've never really raided before, but I'd be willing to try it.

Gave the trial ago. Didn't even reach level 5. Game bores me :(

  • VolgoreVolgore Member EpicPosts: 3,872

Reaching level 5 takes about 15min. Plus the level 1-5 aren't exactly the most exciting in most mmorpgs.

Not to defend Rift, as it can get boring at times...but if you are bored this soon i guess it's not necessarily the game lacking but perhaps you taking the wrong approach or having a bit off expertations.

Btw...aren't you among the fanboys who attack everyone in the SWTOR-forums who posts that he reached like lvl10,11,12 (what takes up to like 4hrs) and got bored of swtor? Just saying...

Edit: i apologize, confused you with someone else. You know, war and forums shortly before a games's release are both hell.

I prefer theme to sandbox, but I like sandbox, I enjoy PvP, but prefer PvE other it :)

    If it's F2P even better

RIFT is a fun game. Combat was too slow for my liking, though.

If you've never tried it, I suggest giving it a shot.

Even though alot do not like it trying aion is not a bad idea, with l2 going f2p might be a good one to try as well though more pvp oriented to some. Cabal alittle older but i love the setting so i will be going to that sometime myself.

  • i posted this in another thread asking the same thing. so cut/paste here:

i enjoy Rift a lot. i thought it was just going to be a filler till some other games came out, but i'm really happy with the game as a whole.

it's a themepark, and the leveling could have been more fun, but they did say the game was ment to be played at level cap,

they release content very fast and wil come with some small bugs, but they work it out fairly fast. like every month and a half they put out new content. the content is full on content too. not like one warfront and that's it. each patch has added a lot so far, and they said they planned to keep putting it out as they have been.

the soul system is great, and allows for a lot of different types of playstyles. there are stil fotm builds, but they are changed up every other month while trion tries to "balance" the classes and souls. if you're into theory, this game is for you, if not, then just read the rift forums and pick up the latest builds.

the 5 man instances are failry easy with two types. T1 and T2. they also have master mode which are a little harder to deal with, but not that bad.

raiding is great imo. two tier of raiding so far, wtih 3 20 man raids, and 3 10 man raids.

PvP is fairly fun, but has a lot of the standard capture the flag games that most other themepark games have. still a lot of fun to play, and skill takes over in warfronts. not much room for fails in PvP. it's also a great way to use the soul system again, as PvP builds and PvE builds are a lot different. you may get wrecked starting off in PvP, but there are a lot of diffferent ways to contribute in a warfront. once you're sitting at rank 2 (which is really fast), you can start with other builds. world PvP is pretty cool if you're on a PvP server, but PvE servers have it as well (just not a lot). on both servers the PvP rifts are fairly entertaining if people are fighting. if no one is around, it's boring as all hell running shards.

the new zone is a blast, and gave me more to do then i though. i tend to just log in for raid, but am having fun goin over the new island.

if you're into achievements, they have a ton of them. not really my thing, but my guildies farm them like crack addicts.

they have "artifacts" that are all over the place, and you collect them to make sets. they're a lot of fun to try and scoop up. mix and match kind of deal. gotta catch em all lol.

the Rifts themselves are all fairly similar. fight waves of spawned trash/elites. they have minor, major, and two tier of raid rifts. there are also the large zone wide events that are pretty fun, but you can half ass them if you want. i'm afk in one right now as i'm typing this. only need to contribute a little bit to get credit. so go full speed ahead, or afk it up after you help a bit.

addons are still a WiP, as they don't want to add in too much too fast.

the alternate advancement system is pretty cool. i raid competitivly, and having a crap ton of points into the AA isn't make or break. 6 different AA maps, with 3 tiers (2 tiers open so far).

i don't know.. i'm sure i'm missing something, but i hope this helps a bit. again i'll say, i wasn't planning on playin rift for that long, but once i got into it i was very happy. was feeling fairly burnt out on mmorpgs, but they'll be getting my sub for a while. good game imo. i recomend it to new players, and even the ones who quit a while ago. they do the free weekends everyonce in a while for old players. worth rechecking imo.

if you wanted to try the game out, i can send you a link for the free trial. i get some free crap if you get the game, but idc either way. you just have to find something that makes you feel like you're getting your dollars worth.

    hope this helped.
