Well, and thats not a problem either, they will not release it untill its done, and thats what all MMO players have been whining about for years.

Its not a problem, its their main feature !!!!!!!!!!

Sadly more and more people are growing impatient, myself included. I'd rather wait then play a buggy game, but bring on BETA already. Give us a taste so we can help correct anything that needs to be.

i just wish they would announce some kind of 'ETA' rather than leave it all to speculation.

that's the most irritating thing with it 'close' to being finished.

Pretty much. I don't think I need a hard date but a guesstimation would be nice. A window that they would like to hit based on where the game is now. This could have a little give and take based on the betas.

I only say this because some of us have been following the game and "when it's ready" makes me feel like they don't beleive the product is anywhere near ready to their standards. I want a polished product as much as the next guy and yes a launch is important becasue you only get to make a first impression once. But at some point people stop following it as closely or lose interest if it drags on to long. Not me mind you, but some have been grumbling that they released info to soon.

Well, there are a lot of things not (fully) implemented yet. They've said they started working on the pvp aspect of the game a year ago, which isn't much compared to the pve part and their goal to make GW2 one of the best esport games out there. Beta will start next month, but if you consider for how long SWTOR was tested by players and the press, the official estimated release date (somewhere in q3 2012) isn't far off.

agree,  no dates have been announced for estimated release

if you think ANET gave a prediction for a release date/timeframe -- cite your source

The only thing devs have ever said is, "when it's done". It wasn't supposed to come out last year because...it wasn't done.

It doesn't matter what other games come out. GW2 will launch when it's done.

When its done, and thats something i wished that games like AoC, Vanguard and DCUO would have done, they all could have been great games when pollished and with enough content.

In the last earnings conference call the CFO of NCSoft said what we know already (CBT this year, OBT next year) and added that it is possible we'll see the comercialization of GW2 "sometime in the latter part of next year". This means NCSoft is estimating GW2 to hit the shelves in July or later. Given the fact that NCSoft's financial year starts a bit later, this could also mean some time in August or September.

You may call conference calls whatever you want, but he doesn't contradict what has been said numerous times before and the quoted phrase is a guess. Of course they won't tell people GW2 is expected to be release in Q3 or something along those lines -  for obvious reasons.

Over at guru - where speculation can go really wild , there was a thread, where concensus was that it would take around 5 years to develop a serius AAA game today, for what reason the 5 years was the concensus i don't know. But the discussion went the way that GW2 then was getting late if not coming out before end of 2011, because of its anouncment in late 2006(early 2007), At that time developers from ArenaNet kindly informed that working on the game first started summer 2007.

While they are not stating anything about a release date there, they for sure don't add fuel to fans expectations about a game to be released very soon. So maybe we should first expect something from summer 2012.

Or have anyone considered why we have been getting hints in blogpost and interviews lately about iteration and iteration and more iteraton. That could be a nice way to tell the game takes longer to finish than most fans expect.

Or have anyone considered that about both demos, when arenanet have stated that they have put several month off work special in them, to make them super awesome, that it actual means that the rest game needs to be worked on to catch on. A quick, not very precis, estimate of 2 month work to ready 10% of the game to a show, that leaves up to 2 years of work to be done to the rest of the game. from cologne last year , 2 years is .. next autum..

Or why they actual time after time pointed out in situations where fans where expecting a very short closed beta, and even shorter open beta followed by a immidiately release this year, that there would be a process of deciding how and when to move on based on the feedback from each step.

i like to be wrong on all this, but with a majority of fans being superoptimistic about release dates, and ArenaNet actual doing nothing to reinforce that , I feel i have to take the sceptical role, and try to interpretate the info from ArenaNet in a less optimistic way.

At least beta is coming next month (lets just hope they wont change thier mind about beta) from there we will see wether the game will be released soon ( Q1 2012) or later.

I agree, im sick of hearing that "it will be done when its done".  I really dont think they should have been advertising and hyping the game so early.  Im almost getting the feeling that GW2 is old and boring now, and its time for me to move onto another game (even though ive never even played it).  *Almost, but I know the minute guild wars 2 releases I will be all over it :) (unless planetside 2 is out, then i have to allocate my time appropriatly).

This doesn't sound like the buzz behind SWTOR.

    Nope, sure doesn't.

They have not started marketing the game yet. I quote Martin Kerstin on this

First thing: We haven't even started "marketing" the game. We obviously released information, but nothing like traditional "marketing".
