Mages Overpowered

KriptonikKriptonik Member Posts: 21

Id like peoples oppinions on whether they think mages are a tad overpowerd. Heres my reasons on why i think they are. First off... What is up with that Teleport. They can do it so often, the worst part is they can do it while stunned by pally. Which is quite annoying, never knew someone could do anything while stunned. Second all they have to do to ANY melee unit is freeze, do whatever they do to slow them down then the melee has no chance of catching them. Exception is warriors with charge. Also I have literally been Sheeped by a mage while he Drank and ate... I think that for PvP Sheep should be like max 7-15 seconds. If we can be sheeped over and over while they regenerate thats pretty bad. Same thing with fear.. but im not getting into that. And for as much DMG that they deal, it seems to me they NEVER EVER DIE. They just use mana shield, which like doubles their health while they take away yours in a matter of 7 seconds....  Seems to me there is just no beating them 1v1 unless you catch them 50% health and 25% mana while they are fighting 20 mobs.

Mages overpowered? not even close, first off, that teleport you talk about, called blink, it has mostly situational value, considering the other classes and how they are balanced against mages

. Warlock, they win more than they loose agaisnt a mage, they can fear, seduce, eat your buffs and and spells with one of their pets, DOT your already pitifull health, and they have about 2 times your health, considering that most warlocks focus on stam as a primary atribute.

.Rogue, if they jump a mage, the said mage has a chance to beat them if he uses frost nova/sheep and manages to stay away from the rogue, but with the reduced health a mages has, if the rogue stuns and unloads his moves on you, then you will prolly be dead anyways.

.Priest(Shadow) theres not even a fight here, even a mediocre priest can beat a good mage most of the time.

.Druid, well, druids are almost impossible to kill, apart from the mana regen on animal form, heals, massive armor and health on bear form, the ability to jump you on cat form, and the garanteed escape with travel form, if a druid is loosing, he escapes the fight easily.

.Paladins, paladins are like dead fish on water agaisnt many classes. they dont have a reliable root/stun, the have little to no ranged dmg, and their burst dmg is crap, burst dmg being the more important atribute in pvp, if you cant kill something quickly, dont even try it.

As you can see, mages are far from overpowered, but then again, player skill is of major importance to the fight, as well as level difference and equipment, so any of the matchups i mentioned above can go one way or the other.

Out of curiosity what class are you.  At first I thought you were a Paly, but if you were you would probably complain about nova CoC and frost spells alot more, and besides you suck against almost every class anyway so why single out mages.  But I dont think you are a Pally since you mention getting killed in 7 seconds.  So either youre playing a class who can easily beat a mage, or youre just compleetly sucking as a Paladin.  Which is it?

I agree, they don't need to be changed. Before I learned how to deal with the mage I thought the same thing but since I've figured it out, my druid doesn't lose to a mage any more. I actually was thinking they were under powered as of late. It cat form they really don't seem to have a chance, as long as I can get to them :)

    1. You forgot to add a selection to your list that reads: NO..Mages get nerfed more and more.

    2. You have NOT played a Mage to 60 and need to get a clue.

You obviously don't know much about mages. Our 'teleport' is on a 15 second cooldown and if we didn't have it all melee classes would kill us in 2 seconds.

If anything we need a buff lol, not a big one but a slight damage increase, seeing as we are supposed to be the main damage dealers yet alot of the time we aren't. But thats just my opinion.

If anything is overpowered i'd say it's druids but only in bg's, I don't mind the fact that I can't kill them 1 vs 1, most people have a class they can't beat. But in bg's they need a nerf like not being able to shapeshift with the flag seeing as they are now immune to slowing effects::::12::::::28::

They are defenitely not overpowered, if anything Endgame Mages (level 60) is severally UNDERpowered compared to the other classes. image

i am a rogue and mages are easy kills for me
  • coolcloud368coolcloud368 Member Posts: 57

I am a 31/20/0 Mage and here's how it goes

Warriors-Just barely but I need to pull out everything FN, Arc Missle(if it works that is...blizz -_-), Fblast, CoC blink and repeat.

Warlocks-don't even bother cause you won't even touch the warlock with their pet on you and DoT's draining your health.

Priest-Mana burn, shield, heal, repeat(you can CS but it won't help much agianst a priest.)

Rogues-If I get the poly off then they are screwed but if they get ambush, backstab, cheapshot, then I'am screwed.

Paladins-no offense but you guys are a joke, wait for the oh so famous shield and heal, then next heal, CS and kill your asses.

Druids- Bear form -_- Moonfire spam -_- self heals and self HoTs -_- never beat a 60 druid, have to be like 4-5 levels lower than me or serious noob for me to win.

Shamans- The cheapest fight(or duels in my case) you'll ever have, mail armor, totems, meele skills, sheilds, heals, stuns, pwnage.

Hunters- Poly pet, FN, get close unload, and hope you win

So you see some classes are easy for mages, but most are not.

Don't sweat it. Blizzard will swing the nerf bat at every class until they are all rendered completely useless.

I think in mages are just fine, I have a 60 paladin and a 60 rogue both with pretty saucy gear and i can kill mages on my rogue every fight..if i have my cooldowns, and on my paladin i usually win id say about 50% of the time. I think the classes that need to be looked at are warriors....if you face a good warrior with a arcanite reaper +oodles of crit gear you will know what im talking about, not to mention the melee weapons dmg is going up with every new raid instance they introduce.

ya my paladin fairs pretty good vs all classes hardest class for him is priest...or maybe dps warriors.

I'm a level 42 warrior and I usually don't have trouble with mages at my own level. And I can generally defeat mages two levels higher. Here's what I do:

    * First, you should have tons of potions... buff yourself up. That's all we warriors have! If you can, down some frost protection. All of the mages I fight love to try and freeze me.

    * Jump around like a madman! Seriously jump over their heads, run left, run right... It is hilarious. Your character will continue to attack while you are jumping and moving. Hopefully you can force them to move (breaking their spell) or their spell fails ("you are facing the wrong direction").

    * Shield slam!! This is a great trick. Let them start casting and then slam them. It will usually cancel their spell and they can't cast for a few seconds.

    * Use every slowing trick you have as a warrior: thunder clap, rend, hamstring, stun, etc. And just keep swinging away. Their health bar drops like a rock because they are very soft targets.

These battles usually do not last very long.

Well maybe the reason i feel they are so overpowered is because im a pally as you prob could have guessed. I never have a chance against a mage, and it is hard to escape them, thank god for my epic mount:) lol

Every class has there weaknesses. As a warlock I loved paladins to try and jump me......cause the only thing they were going to kill was my time.
