SWTOR is exactly what Bioware said it was going to be back in 2008.... So I find it humorous that people are shocked and outrage it's not some sort of Star Wars Reality Simulator....
The OP is obviously a confused person given his "I Hate SWTOR Review" and then the statement "I'm going to play it through a couple times" sounds to me he just wanted to get up on a soap box and get attention.... You do know you sitll have plenty of time to cancel your pre-order...
After having experienced two Beta weekends now, I have to finally say something somewhere about this game. That something is that I'm highly disappointed in this installment of the Star Wars franchise!
Before the Fanboy Brigade (made up of highly delusional morons, who would buy sand if it was offerd to them in a dessert. And the Market hype brigade, who are all secret agents Employed by EA, to spread lies and missinformation) hits this thread I must say I like your Review, the game sounds exacly what I thought it would be... Nothing new under the sun "this is not the GAME you are looking for"
Thanx for taking your time to write this.. sorry you are going to get trashed for speaking the truth....
Ah. You use the word fanboy here. So, what your saying is, and please correct me if I am wrong, that because I play and enjoy this game I am a "delusional moron[], who would buy sand if it were offered to [me] in a dessert"? Now, does that really sound legitament? I do not really think that is a fair statement. I am a big fan of the typical theme-park MMORPG. I love it, because in the short amount of time I have usually, I can play the game and feel like I actually accomplish something in the time alotted. I enjoy the cinematic storyline, and the combat system...for example, when I am attacking someone, I deflect laser beams, parry attacks, etc. Of course, simply, I just enjoy playing the game...most fun I have had playing an MMO since Burning Crusade World of Warcraft. These are just the games I enjoy. Of course, I do not expect you to understand this.
I'm also not cancelling the pre order because my 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter will probably have lots of fun playig it after I walk away. It's about right for their age. I like how people are attacking that and not the actual content of my post. Must mean most people silently agree, but have to find some point of contention to bitch about.
I don't think anyone silently agrees. I stated that others have had some of the same complaints in their reviews and don't see them as a problem. I, personally, didn't play the beta so I can't attack the contents of your opinions because I don't have actual experience of my own. I did, however, mention not cancelling and continuing to play because it makes no sence. you said you planned to play through then put it on the shelf. That isn't the same as saying now you are gonna play a little then let the kids have at it (which is also pretty pointless since now you not only help put a sale under the companies belt, but you are giving them more investment by allowing the kids to enjoy it through even more sub money). I can think of plenty of games that are just as enjoyable for kids and wouldn't require me to buy something I don't like and then continue to pay for it each month.
I know I wasn't attacking you. Your opinions are yours. I do question whether thay are worth listening to with the way you ended it was all.
If you had done an OUNCE of research into SW:TOR you would have realized it was not meant for someone like you, and you would have szed yourself a heaping of disappointment and a lot of time spent writing that longwinded whinefest.
I think from now on, every time I read a thread or a post like this, I'm just going to reply with a picture of Jessica Simpson:
You ordered fish and you got fish. It's not my fault you thought it was chicken.
I read it all OP. All you are saying is "I like sandbox games, everything else I dislike". There is nothing wrong with that point of view, but to use WoW as the origin point for a number of features, is wrong.
Bind on (whatever) was not created by WoW and there are a number of reasons why this system exists in an MMO. You may not agree with these reasons, but they are just as valid as your reason to dislike it.
I notice you have alot of ideas for how games should work and I am not disagreeing with those ideas. I will say however, that it is quite easy to write an essay on how you think things should work, but quite an enormous challenge to put those ideas into practice. Then once you are finished with that mountain of work, stand back and see if everyone is happy. You might be suprised with the results.

"Silently agree" that SWTOR is a MMO. You obviously do not like MMOs. Not much to be said on your post.
You might want to make sure your kids stay away from the Imperial side. Unless you like them making choices involving : Murder, Torture, Terrorism, sex.
IA example I used from another threae for a IA convo
entire thing was a QQ sandbox rant/cry baby fest about the graphics.
the game has been in development for several years. there is plenty of information available that clearly defines what the game is. and what it is not.
90% of what the OP complains about is widely known to be exactly what the game was made to be. if you don't like that sort of game... then there is no way you're going to enjoy swTor.
add in a few misc wrong generalities. and you've got the gist of this post.
He's trolling plain and simple. Btw, kind contradicting when the game so obviously sucks to the point were you are retaining your Pre-Order...
I've said it at least once in my reply's that I'm mostly retaining the pre order because my 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter loved it. All the things that I hate about themepark MMO's are just right for their age group. When they're old enough, then they can step out of the box and play EVE or Darkfall with me.

Did your kids kill the Dad or the Kid to complete the starter mission on Hutta?
Op, I loved your post, it made me laugh and nod several times. I really appreciate you taking the time to write your comments on here, as it was fun and intelligently done.
I agree with you on pretty much every aspect, and like you Im going to play Swtor, because we can have moderate amounts of fun with the game while not closing our eyes to all its faults.
Actually I can agree with most of the points. The classes aside from few exceptions are boring and a bold copy of wow classes. My experience is that gun user classes are a bit more fresh, I enjoyed the trooper / commando the best sofar.
While the voice acting is really great, I felt the quests and the stories boring. The world itself is more like an offline game with different maps, it really lacks freedom and life. This is even more true in full city planets.
Considering I was following the infos about the game long ago I still expected a bit more fresh game, mainly talking about class design.
However I cannot agree on the graphics, which I found great. I will not cancel my preorder because I was only tested the first 10-14 levels of the classes and I must give a shot for the end content. The 2 starter FPs were pretty good compared to wow's low level dungeons so it can be that this part of the game (FP / operatives) will show higher value.

I do play Eve.. since 2003, left it when i couldn't handle more of CCP's crap, and don't come and tell me that the game has options, you are now stuck with armchair generals who have no ideia of what their doing, while sucking in billions of ISK at the expense of others, or... the wonderfull High Sec space , with the wonderfull and fullfilling mission set that CCP has prepared for you.
And don't be unfair, the game doesn't suit you, fine, but it is not what you wrote just there, in fact i've said this a million times already, it was a beta client were we all played, do not assume that the game will see exactly like that at launch.
Plus, you don't like this kind of MMO's, thats a matter of taste and it has more to do with the gaming comunity as anything else. People wanted the game so so, and thats exactly what they are getting from the software houses.
Next gen MMOs only can improve on the same mechanics that has worked in the past. Why try to re-invent the wheel here? What do people want from a game that actually never ends, you grind off quests/mobs or tasks to level up to fight harder stuff and accomplish others things.
I have yet seen anyone come up with game breaking features that would make a next gen MMO not feel like a past clone of any game. And I know people are use to saying everything is a WoW-clone, but that game is far from being an original MMO. To me WoW is an EQ1 clone. Yes it's extremely popular and successful, but it's not an original.
If you are bored with questing, PvP, arenas, dungeons/missions, crafting, etc. then maybe MMOs are not what you are looking for. Maybe it's time to move on to other styles of games.
Whenever a sandbox oriented player decided to try a themepark it never ends well..maybe sometimes but not every time. But why complain when your taste is so much different? let me guess you were feeling left out so had to write a long winded post anyways.
It is the same as if a themepark oriented player goes to sandbox and starts complaining about everything. Why would anyone take him/her seriously?

Eve is in the box IMO. Please don't be offended by that remark, but I have tried four times to get into that game, I still have it installed, but it is by far, the most boring space game I have ever played. And believe me, it has nothing to do with the complexity or depth. I know people love Eve, and more power to them.
What I am saying here is "to each his / her own". Your gold is anothers garbage and vice-versa.
Wow have any of you fools played SWTOR? OP is spot on, in so many f*ing ways, and it was a great read.
The OP is pointing out that sanbox games > theme parks (if you don't agree, go look in a mirror and /reevaluate-self)
I've never played EVE, but heard great things. My first (and most dominating in thinking about MMOs) is Lineage 2, which was much more sandbox-like, and had such an incredible longevity to it that by the end I couldn't believe I had spent years playing the game (that isn't to say there wasn't a lot wrong with it, like the REDIC leveling; but the pvp was top-notch).
Good post OP - I am basically doing the same thing w/ my preorder. Give it a try, and see how it plays end levels and with expansions + crafting/pvp/guilds and how they work together. TERA and Archeage both show more promise imo ... but they don't have the legacy that Star Wars carries. Oh and L2 just went f2p so there's always that too lawl :O

Why bother wasting their time in such an obviously worthless game then? Oh I see! You're trying to raise them to hate your guts by torturing them with crap you don't even see fit to play......nice! Next time save the drama and simply man up, return the pre-order and let your kids know how it's gonna be. EvE and Darkfall in this house only!

Yeah the success of Sandbox MMOS clearly shows that they are > themeparks. And i didn't know that for having a different taste one has to look into mirror and re evaluate self. Some people should be phsically stopped from logging on to internet.

Not to say it's necessarily right or wrong, but this review could have been written without even playing the game, since it's just a list of features that are common knowledge.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Haha perfectly said
