Planetside 2 Coverage by AGN Community (Footage inside)

AGN Community has released their november edition coverage with Matt and T-Ray showing their faces at the showing.

And what was displayed even made me blink a couple of times in disbelief.

AGN was awesome enough to even release a youtube version of the show.

within the show also has exclusive footage of the game in motion thanks to Matt himself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIwW2D686fk

(first in game footage starts at 1:19:55)

(second ingame footage starts at 1:25:30)

keep in mind, its being played through a another recording device.

The footage shows off a quick day and night cycle, showing all forms of light and refractions/reflections going all over the place, gun shooting/ bullet trails, the works.  at the end there's even a quick display (minus HUD) of the TR mosquito taking flight, crashing.  woops - props to matt for attempting to fly the aircraft with his elbows.

further personal thoughts:

The forgelight engine, we gotta see it pushed to the max, we have to..hell we Need to,  if its able to push graphics like this, for a MMO, thats borderline insane. no way in hell my computer could handle something that rich, and then throw down a ass ton of players running around shooting at everything in sight. thats probably way matt answered about the speed of the game being slower than BF3, due to having to keep track of all those players and bullets and dynamics and whatever else.

those looking to watch the whole video ( 1 hour and 45 minutes worth) will be treated with some interesting questions and answers.

one of them being the new Sundy Bus.

there will be guns that can be mounted on the bus, but also they want passangers to move around the bus and use their regular guns that their wielding to shoot at the enemy while on the move.  So no more idle passangers sitting by waiting to go to one destination to the next.

Again, those who have time take a look at the show and enjoy.

Planetside has to be slower than BF3 for serveral reasons. Its an MMO, battles are massive fire fights will be hundreds of players, you could be mowed in like .5 of a second, less by random people spraying if ttk is to low.

You then have to remember agian, people are playing from around the world on central servers, everybodys not going to be pinging 50 and everything is going to be all fine and dandy, people are gonna be pinning 200s and shit is gonna get whacky.

Planetside, like battlefield is clinet server, so a hit on your screen is a hit, the game does not have to keep track of every bullet, but it has to make sure they're not hacking and track and broadcast their positions, hopefully at a tick rate of more than 5(unlike PS1)

also i made a video that just has the gameplay from AGN for the lazy:

    TRF - GM - GW2, PS2, WAR, AION, Rift, WoW, WOT....etc...
    Future Crew - High Council. Planetside 1 & 2.

I like the look of their night time which they've just been showing off of late.  It seems much darker and any sort of light really stands out, especially on vehicles.  I wonder if they're going to offer some sort of night vision enhancements through either vehicle/weapon customization or implants.

they said theres no IR or NV in the game yet, but they're thinking about it. I really hope they keep it to vehicles only, if any at all :)

Well if they made it like darklight in PS1 which had a limited range it wouldn't be too unbalancing.

A lot of the mechanics of night are still being worked out such the day/night cycle time, how dark night will be, etc.. One of the comments Matt made was they want to have a proper balance to the darkness where its at a level that doesn't interupt gameplay by forcing players to have to stop and re-equip for night combat (such as having to don night-vision). Some areas may be lighter or darker than others as well.

That dynamic lighting, especially when you factor in the clouds, looks simply amazing. Even if this game was just eye-candy with bland gameplay it would be worth it, however the gameplay is going to be on a 1-of-a-kind scale so it looks like the best of both worlds. Anybody tired of the same derivative games definitely need to have this one on their radar.

This engine is looking quite amazing, as mentioned if it can pull off visuals like this and still be an MMO SOE has an amazing piece of technology on their hands.

Also thanks for posting the video here!

Planetside was/is one of the best sandbox mmo's that people always say they want but never seem to buy heh.  I can't wait for the new one.

Love the idea of more than one moon, or a large moon to cast more light at night. I wouldn't want to fight in almost total darkness for very long.

The night cycles may be one of the biggest things i am excited about in planet side 2.  They are going to look incredible with a huge battle going on! Plus ill be shooting my beamer into the sky all night long lol
