Explanation?

Can anyone explain what was wrong with TOA? Should I not get DaoC because of it, or avoid certain servers? image

(Yes, I know this question is horribly n00bish, I'm really confuzzled about it. Humour me... image)

    ToA broke away from the spirit of the rest of DAOC, and added some things that were not at all fun, and which took huge amounts of time to complete. To make matters worse, you had to complete the things in toa to be viable in rvr, which is the endgame pvp in daoc.

    It drove a lot of people away from the game.

    The good thing, however, is that there are new server types, called "classic servers" which don't have toa, and also don't have some other things which weren't good for the overall health of the game. These servers were just started within the last 4 days, so everyone there is a newb. A great place to start off with DAOC, and never a better time to start.

    Ahhh, so the classic servers are the best ones? (I guess that would explain the numbers... image)

    If you like PvE, there isn't that much wrong with ToA. If you hate PvE, then the new servers are the way to go.

    I think the biggest problem with ToA lies in needing 30+ people to ONE person ONE item which can only be obtained every ONCE in a while even if you managed to get those 30+ numbers it wasnt even guaranteed that the ONE item for the ONE person would even drop. It caused people to go and steal the items and everyone becoming enormous selvish and greedy instead of helpfull.

    Then if you got the item (artifact) you still needed to go farm for 3 scrolls in order to obtain a book required to activate it, which again required a full group for certain scrolls and in some cases 3 weeks of continous farming for them (100+ hours) untill you finally had them, then you could go and activate the artifact which required experience in order for it to be leveled. It would only level on specific mobs in specific areas which were different for each artifact. The leveling could take as much xp as from leveling from level 40 -> 50. And worst part of all since they were the best you could get everyone needed them. For me I played 2 months before reaching 50 and it took me over a full year to get a decent outfit with artifacts. Without the artifacts you simply wouldnt get into the good RvR (PvP) groups.

    A lot has been changed and fixed but the whole artifact system i'm refering to here still needs a lot of reworking.

    The classic servers don't have this and thus make it a lot easier to reach the end game and enjoy the game to it's fullest.
