Normally, I play subscription based MMO's, I invest time and money into the game and relationships. I join, support, and sometimes lead guilds.
I just saw Lineage 2 go FTP and I had a sudden inexplicable urge to hop on and create an annoying, idiot alter-ego with no real ties to the game or its players, to play with impunity and no reprecussions.
I can't explain where that desire came from or why. It's simply the behavioral switch my mind makes when considering new F2P games vs. subscription based MMOs.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
Some people apparently don't value their time as much as I value mine. Being an asshat or troll is a complete waste of time.

Sounds like a personal character flaw.
It's L2 and if my memory is correct you will soon be getting an attitude adjustment from the players in-game.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Heh...this It's a rough world out there, and if you make enemies early, you better hope you have backup or you'll be quickly stomped into the proverbial dirt!
I think you guys miss the point... it's more that that L2 (or any F2P, really) now has the feel of a "throw-away-game", where most players have no desire to make a permanant character or invest more than a few passing hours.
By removing the upfront investment, people enter the game with nothing to lose, and so degregate to the lowest common denominator. It's a pretty common phenomona. Players looking for a stable community and lasting relationships become few and far between, and it's almost not worth the effort to seek them out in such a spastic environment.
I think my OP was more of an attempt to empathize with the uninvested, F2P mindset.
I'm not so sure. I have invested a few years in a f2p game and i think i would have still played it even if it was p2p or b2p because the game interested me at the time.
If the game is fun and entertaining then people will invest their time into it.........

I sometimes have the urge to Dominate servers and be the annonymous A$$hat as well. Thats why I am always playing freshies on numerous games when servers launch. I like to to kill things faster and be better than everyone else. I guess having a never lose attitude is a bad thing..... Oh Wait... Thats how you become legendary in PVP!
All the more power to ya, Lemme know of some good action =p
"People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."
For me it's the other way around. I've already played L2 for a couple of years (ahum... since 2006 on NC servers), and while I normally don't stay long in MMO's, L2 is an exception. Now that it's F2P, I'll continue to play it, and can (finally) pick up an other MMO to play as well.
@OP - L2 is a bad example to play the asshat. But I indeed get your drift. It's like those goldtraders making tons of accounts on F2P MMO's only to SPAM for their 'services'. I can imagine that (bored) players will make an alt to blow off some steam and annoy everyone they come across. Just wondering why you only thin of this with F2P games? Most sub-based MMOs have enough other servers where you can make an alt to be the asshat you'd love to be
I disike the F2P model and hate the term a lot, but I don't go around trolling for the sake of trolling in a game. I guess if you really have nothing better to do with your time than be an incovienence to others, that's your thing. (I really think gamers as a whole need to start mannering up. Just imo)
True! But, he stated that he felt his time wasn't throw away time when he was subbed.I'm thinking he's just meaning that his time is more valuable in a sub-based game then the F2P market. After all he feel's there just throw away's anyway, so his time really isn't as valuable. Atleast that is how I took it.
