Hardcore MMORPGs?

Hyia all, new here::::34::

I had a blast @ WoW but decided not to buy it because I like more hardcore stuff, lots of customizations, skills, like NvN was for ex. Plus the endgame of WoW seems dull, you get to lvl 60 and see lots of players complaining and starting over (just writing what I saw, not criticizing the game).

Dont care about PvP, it can be in or out. Or even if it's fantasy or science. From what I've read Matrix Online seems complex enough. Am I right? Any other suggestions?

BTW are MxO's main flaws fixed?

Thx a ton.

Anarchy Online and SWG might be what you are looking for.

I'll read all I can find on them, since I'm Brazilian it is kinda hard for me to test lots of them because USDs are worth triple our currency so 15USD a month is like the price of 2 Music CDs here.

BTW I'd like to know your opinion about Matrix Online too. I know it got some bad reviews (as well as SWG too) but it got me interested.

    Thx!

not exactly sure what you mean by hardcore, could you explain that a bit further?

edit: if you mean too easy and no good endgame, maybe take a look at lineage 2.

I think you would like Shadowbane.

  • anarchyartanarchyart Member Posts: 5,378

Nothing out so hardcore right now, although Anarchy Online is very serious and detailed. UO is a choice. Shadowbane is full PvP, doesn't get too much more hardcore and 20 day free trial atm. I'm waiting for Roma Victor, Darkfall and Vanguard among others.

if you can stand mediocre graphics and have good comp...irth online is as hardcore as it gets...it's real 3d uo-clone with no classes and no levels but real 100% skill system (similar only to UO) that allows you to completely custom build your character with very little limits. It's 100% original so it's kinda underhog.

it's still in beta but they accept anyone in so give it a try, you'll either love it or hate it.

I mean more or less what a 'solo' RPG like Neverwinter Nights was. Or UO, which I played shortly after its release long ago. Lots of customization, no 'end game', etc.

For example, I enjoyed World of Warcraft a lot and I would buy it if it had absolutely no impact on my finances, but it seems too 'Tomb-Raiderish' and you can't really customise your character much.

Lots of people mentioning SW Galaxies here... Read some bad reviews when it was released but seems to be better now, from what you are saying ::::01::

What makes you think Vanguard is hardcore?

Try Darkfall and Trials of Ascension.

I'm not sure if There would work for you or not. First its more like a Virtual World but why I am suggestion it to you is because you can build inside. So in fact you could build your dream MMORPG inside a MMORPG. To build it does require learning and some 3D modeling skills.

As I said it might not be for you. Its 90% user built which is pretty neat and There has the best community I have seen. It has a small client but as you explore your client downloads things and I am to 255MB currently. The link is in my signature if you want to check it out. Good luck!

Star wars galaxies got bad reviews because when it first came out there was something missing... SHIPS. now if you get all the expansion packs it is an awsome game

    Either EvE or Shadowbane.

Shadowbane for midevil seige, combat, and freewill enviroment. Kill everyone, or conquor everyone, your choice. Its not for the light hearted or thoes who want eye candy and perfection.

EvE is a space game where the markets are player run. Mine or pirate all you like, after you skill up and pay for bigger ships.

Eve is the best mining simulator on the market today. Very pretty and lots of nice music.

SWG is a fan boy thing...

Its...not...hardcore...at all. I don't even know why you guys have the gull to mention it here.

If there is a bright focal center of the hardcore universe, star wars galaxies is just aout as far from as you can get.

Shadowbane is complex (very much so in the characters), and hardcore...very.

    Its a good choice, IMO.

Just don't play SWG lmao... not if you want a hardcore game anyways.

And MxO... Its pretty good... um all ghey PvP systems, and interlock combat... but other than that its eye candy and is a lot better off than most of the games out now. No player economy or anything like that though, because everyone eventually becomes "everything" as all players can become literally all classes. Not in like a really pimped out cool way, but in a worst game wrecking dynamic ever way.

Exactly the reason Eve is hardcore - because idiots never get past the mining tutorial (and if they do, they just sit in space mining all day and wondering why they aren't having fun).

Two things really stand out about Eve - firstly, that a player has almost total freedom. This is a double edged sword, as it means players aren't limited by the devs, but are by other players. The initial anarchy of the eve-verse soon settled into player alliances and generates a massive amount of player content.

The second is the player economy, the closest any mmorpg (as far as im aware) has come to replicating real life market forces. This is a double edged sword itself, with some markets competing on minute margins, others hard to break into due to restricted numbers of blueprints and any items or changes introduced by the devs having quite wide ranging effects.

    ---sig---

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...
