The Best Solo play?

Sometimes I come home from 9 or 10 hours of work and just want to relax in my game and not have to worry about maintaining a party.
I tried soloing in FFXI and wow, what a disappointment. If I want an MMORPG where I can comfortably solo while making *actual progress,* what are some of the best ways to go?

I'd say World of Warcraft. You can solo pretty much all of that game, although you'll miss out on raids and instances. But, yeah, pretty much all of it. It has more solo'ing than any other game to my knowledge, although I hear Everquest 2 has been upping its solo appeal.

Since you already tried WOW hmm....
SWG is another game where you can solo pretty well... hmm.... Horizons was pretty solo friendly as was AC as well. And I've heard AC is much better these days (heard the same about HZ)....

EQ2 is fairly solo friendly now as well..

I'd suggest trying out EQ2, HZ and AC first since they all have free trials though. If none of them suit you try SWG $30 and then GuildWars $50 One of those should suit you.

Elnator, where did you get the idea that he had already tried World of Warcraft?
    From this line?

I tried soloing in FFXI and wow, what a disappointment.

I had to read it a few times, but I believe that when he said "wow" he meant wow, as in, the word.
I may be wrong though ::::35::

I would also sugest eve online as being pretty decnt for the solo player, depends on what you want to do realy as the game is extremely open ended.

Hmmm you may be correct. I thought he meant he'd tried both. :)

    Erm no
EVE is NOT solo friendly... it's distinctly a game where you need friends to succeed and progress at all well... Solo players tend to get frustrated early. A few survive but I wouldn't call EVE A solo-friendly game. Playing by yourself is a fairly blatant exercize in boredom.

Eve is a great game but it's the social aspects of it that make it shine.

I do disagree, i tend to think that being a lone miner or a mission runer was very solo friendly, when i did play eve i was part of a corp like most people, tho i tended to mine my own roids and do my own pickup of the minerals, i ran a few missions and did a few contract cargo transportations.

With my corp i did many late evenings of minning in low sec space, alot of fun there with team speak to pass the time and laugh at all our crazy accents, we did some pirate hunting and we protected our POS.

My point is, eve is one of the best games i ever played with prolly the best community in a mmorpg, its deep and involving but.... its also very solo friendly if you want it to be, dont feel like sharing the profits? play solo while saving a little on the side to play a part on the corps wars or expand the POS.

Hmm, this got me thinking, i might reactivate my account and play a little image

I'd have to suggest Lineage II (which is very solo-friendly, though recently it's become more duo/small group friendlist), or, the peak of all solo games, Lineage I, which is ENTIRELY solo based (except a few hunting areas).

But seriously, you can solo in WoW all the way to 60. Soloing sucks though IMO. If I wanted to solo, I would play Doom 3 or Half-Life 2.

WoW has got to be the most solo-friendly of the prominent ones now. You can solo your character all the way to lvl 60 if you want to (and frankly, so many people do it, that it can be challenging to find groups for anything other than instances and raids).

Lineage II is also very solo friendly, but it's more or less completely grinding mobs, and it also has wide open PvP, so it depends on what you like to do.

EVE is in theory solo-friendly, but I think to really enjoy the game you need to be in a corp with other folks so that you can experience the areas of the game that are hard to access for a lone wolf type player.

Guild Wars, which is not an MMORPG but is a fun multiplayer online game, is also very solo-friendly because although the content is scaled for groups, the game provides the possibility to take a group of NPCs with you on every mission or quest, so its the "solo-group" game.

EQ2 is generally not solo friendly ... they've made it more solo friendly in the past several months on the lower levels, but once you advance a bit it's very, very hard to solo.

City of Heroes, and by FAR!

Not only can you solo all the way up, but you are not backward like folks in WoW who are 60 and leagues behind.  Only the Hamidon to cope with, far less bad then WoW raiding enforcement.  image

    Thanks for the tips!

I'll look into free trials and game info and stuff soon.

Oh, and for the guys that thought I meant "World of Warcraft," no, I meant the word wow. I would have used "WoW" if I had meant World of Warcraft. ::::35::
