Guild Wars 2 Might come earlier than you think.

NC soft is not doing "well" in terms of their Q3 financial report. They are down 29% since q3 2010. I think they need to release this game to save even more losses. So you fans might just get the game by early next year. Since GW2 is not a p2p game, the more box they can sell the better.

Time to release the Kraken? It would be nice to see gw2 released early but I wouldn't get my hopes up too soon. Thanks for the link though. Gives me something to think about.

what worries me is the inevitable push from the publisher on devs. They might pressure Anet to release the game early to make up for the losses. 30% is kind of a big loss. And NCsoft games aren't making a lot of money world wide.  Lets just hope NCsoft don't keep taking more losses by the q1 2012 or else they might be in trouble.

ArenaNet still has yet to release the last profession and I'm sure there's still some good amount of polishing they still want to clean up before the game launches.  I'm sure Early Spring is what ArenaNet is hoping for, if things look even better it could be a late Winter Launch early next year.

NCSoft is at fault for there loss, they don't have any titles that are bringing in enough cash flow.  NCSoft is giving ArenaNet a lot of breathing room on this project because they know this is going to be a big hit for not only ArenaNet, but for NCSofts wallets.

Yeah but is NCsoft willing to wait that long? next winter is still one year away. Thats 3 more quarters for NCsoft. Can they bounce back from this loss? specially with SWTOR in 2 weeks and MoP probably on summer, TSW on spring or summer maybe, diablo 3 on summer. What other options NCSoft have beside this? Their MMOs on international market are going to start losing even more subs due to those games specially Aion.

I dont think NCsoft is going to push a game out the door just because their on a small down trend.  Their stock is up about 150% from a year ago.  And their quarter over quarter financials are not that bad.

Edit: Also, a lot of NCsofts profit likely comes from the east where SWTOR might not be as "effective"

    Nice!

Now hopefully the board of ArenaNet will force them to put in Raids and gear progression so this is a game most people will wanna play. Everything else looks cool but without real raids and tiered gear progression it will fail.

What you linked to are stock prices. Not revenue or profit. Stock prices for the MMO industry rarely reflect the state of their internal budget (and if it did, thats called insider trading which is highly frowned upon and illegal in most markets). With the MMO industry (and a major portion of the tech industry in general) prices will decline significantly in periods where there is no new product being launched within the quarter, and will rise significantly when there is a new product launch.

There is no reason to believe that this info changes anything with the GW2 release. NC is a big company, with numerous people budgeting and planning ahead for these inevitable low spots in the often cyclical stock prices.

For all intents and purposes, look towards April 26-28th as a likely date for something big coming from Anet. Thats GW's birthday and Anet always makes a big deal of it. Maybe not the release day, but likely there will be big news about GW2 in that timeframe.

The real issue we should be speculating about is whether or not we will get the last profession reveal before the new year or not.

Your joking right?  Tell that to all the people still collecting gear in GW1.  Tell that to everyone eco farming for that FOW gear.

You cant say something wont work without it seeing it in action first, especially something like this.  There are plenty of games with raids and endless gear grind, and we see many of them failing.

Yes the loss was from the over seas market mostly. Which is anywhere outside south korea. Thats a big player base. NCSoft already stated the reason being lack of new games coupled with very low demand for current games. You can find this on the report below.

I'm pretty sure f2p Lineage 2 is going to help NCsoft a lot. There are a ridiculous amount of people playing L2 now and I imagine there is a lot of money being made from it's cash shop.

yep i think Lineage going f2p is one NCSofts move to make up for the losses. But can lineage 2 bring in the bucks from the over seas market? we will have to wait and see.

Ah, I double checked; didn't see the paragraph a few screens below the first time through. But my argument can be applied to their profit margins as well; NC has not released a major sales product since the Aion expansion more than a year ago, and as the product reached saturation, revenue went down. Its something thats to be expected and planned for in any industry.

And don't doubt that there is an existing plan that they are sticking to; no company would play the market/industry like Darth Vader plays a Bespin gas tycoon.

There is really nothing hinting at an early 2012 release for GW2 and this comment by Eric Flannum pretty much disregards what the OP says. ArenaNet are aiming to make a great MMO on release, not a buggy MMO that had potential and if that takes time, so be it. We all just have to learn to be patient. I know I am.

Also anyone still looking for ArenaNet to add raid content to GW2 will be sorely disappointed. Well at least those people will in the end give ArenaNet their money and find that there is no official forums for them to QQ on. :P

There is this bracket from April to June....

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

ncsoft better not force them to make an earlier release.  I hope they don't resort to making arenanet break one of their biggest characteristics.

  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

I don't see ANET releasing it before it is in a good shape.

But it might stop them for more small revamps like the one with stats and the one when they removed energy.

It do explain why they made L2 F2P though.

As a former WOW player, this was a thing that bothered me the most.  Tiered Gear Sets and Forced Raiding Content.  Blizzard lacked on quests and could of expanded on Dungeons or other forms of games to earn gear, but really forcing you to have better gear so you can be trapped for hours on hours doing raid content will a chance you did it all for nothing that day, maybe cause someone was not there or someone had a off day and or maybe it was just taking to long from.  It was stressful and would actually cause me to take month breaks from the game just so I could tolerate it.

I'm glad ArenaNet is changing it up and I'm sure a lot of MMO gamers are very pleased with something different.

Have you been paying attention to the whole theme of GW2?

What are your worries based upon? Does arenanet have a history of just pushing games out the door?  No.

Does NcSoft? No. Why would they kill the golden goose before it laid its egg?

I can't take this thread seriously. There is no reason to believe that the game will be released prematurely.

NCsoft will wait that long if they want this game released by their company ? :D

I'm sure ANet won't let anything get in their way of making the best possible game it can be.
