SWTOR - Paid to play?

Our guild (Static) a guild originally founded back in 2002 in the days of Earth and Beyond and continued into and through WoW, was approached this week by a corporate technology partner from California who evidently sells thier products (Cisco, HP, Dell, etc) to the likes of Blizzard and numerous other gaming companies!
They offered us the opportunity to be one of a few select guilds who they will sponsor in exchange for end game progression, it seems the win for guild members will be a host of rewards like free game time, gaming accessories like gpu, cpu's, gaming mice, keyboards, yadda yadda ya etc.... They are looking for the PR for server firsts etc.
Static has always had server dominance from it's inception, but this has kind of taken us by suprise.
My question is how many other guilds have you heard of this happening to?
Have those guilds in other games been successful?
We have done some research as well as met with corporate executives and validated this is a legit offer, but curious to how this has played out in the past?
Do players even really want out of game rewards to play? If nothing else they picked up the cost of our website and domain to get things rolling.
If your interested we will be looking for a host of new players for sure to fill the ranks, the typical mature, end game focused types.

Guild size is limited to 400, or so I have heard. So, that translates into a very small percentage of actual players. It is great that a guild can get that sort of "sponsorship" but I for one am not all that excited to see it happening at all. I am a little afraid that guilds involved is such things are going to be dictated to by their sponsoring masters. Just my thought.

That's a great point, however I do not see us looking for membership near that size, I think something smaller not likely exceeding 75 to 100 to account for people's schedules who can actually afford to be online together would make sense.
This, I couldnt join a guild that was driven by outside influences, we must do this for the guild to recieve new GPU, CPU, MB, or other material gain for the guild leader/owner.
That's actually a good point, the guild leadership does not get any of the rewards from the sponsor, only the every day members, they kind of look at it as our reward is getting progressive players whom supposedly we might not which quite honestly was never the case before. We have always prided ourselves on being a progressive and server dominanent force, perhaps it's the catch 22 reason we were approached in the first place.
It sounds tempting for many players, and to some extent I wouldnt blame players for joining just for the free stuff, but at the end of the day those players will be playing and joining the guild for the wrong reasons, and I can see this sort of stuff leading to drama and rage quitting because someone didnt get what they wanted or felt they desrved more.
Hell I can lol. I am looking forward to raiding in TOR honestly. I am retired with nothing but tons of time and wow raiding after 6 years is ...yeah they code well (arguable) but I am just sick of elves and dragons and yeah I can get that in skyrim now (Elves dragons etc)
So yeah hey we need to raid tonight in our underwear so we can get a new gpu ....ok.... Ima raid anyway why not be hardcore anyway AND get shit for it as well as special treatment. Man if your guild has a chance for it do it and good luck.
Great point, we just put up a new website, and are migrating from an old one, you can find our old guild here, www.staticguild.com As you can see we were there a very very long time, but had a different site and trying to migrate to this new one, once the freaking name servers are steady, which it seems may take another 24 hours.
Next bit then, why not use the old forum and build a new webpage that links to it? that would be more effective as then you wouldnt need old members to re-apply or anything..
you know, like just making new forum section or something like that.
The old one was boring, cluttered with useless information unrelated to SWTOR, I just made a command decision to get something new and fresh, though part of me regrets it as I suck at figuring out Joomla coding, and willing to pay someone to do it for me! ha ha
We are definitely looking for some new people, so if anyone is still looking for a guild, we welcome new people. The first month, we will have 2 Razer give aways.
I for one think this is brilliant, I have been raiding for nearly 20 to 30 hours a week the past few years in wow, and with all the money i have paid out in subs over the past few years, why not get some rewards for my time. I think this is a great thing, too bad more guilds don't do this, I am going to apply for sure. Who cares if people are playing for the giveaways or the experience at the end of the day you still have to be good at what you do, or they probably are not going to keep you. i am in college and I have the time invest, I want to get some good gear for my in game time.
Just wondering if this is your guild here http://www.swtor.com/guilds/286009/static/roster since I noticed only 5 members and it's the only west coast PVE guild named static and your website only shows 6 registered users http://www.staticguild.net/ (I assume the person named sealclubber is whalegutter).
It strikes me as odd for a technology firm would seek out and pass out a lot free perks to a guild this small unless the firms owner is related or something possibly, forgive me if I'm mistaken but things are not adding up.
