Class question

Hey guys cus i'm not kinda sure which class to play ... and cus i only played 1 day of the beta .. ( pff weekends )

I'm here to ask u guys some questions

Since i rly enjoy melee classes are the only dps melee classes the jedi's ?

Can the tank melee classes dominate in pvp as well ?

Can some one give me some info about the Healer classes and compare them to the wow healer classes (yeah i know sorry but it will make life much easyer for me)

EDIT: Also one more question x) .... Which classes were the most played / less played in beta ... rly don't like to play the mp

    Every class can melee.

How often you'd like to melee is the question.

If you like to melee 90% of the time and tank. Jedi Guardian / Sith Juggernaut is for you.

The stealthy advanced classes are pretty melee (/ close range) too: Sith Assassin, Jedi Shadow, Agent Operative, Smuggler Scoundrel. The last two also have healing trees.

Yeah well the thing is ... i enjoy 100% melee classes to the fullest .. but i'm a pvp player as well and i asume Guardian / Juggernaut don't do very well in pvp ?

Next to that Jedi sentinal / Marauder will be played the most i guess ?

They do 'OK' but really need to work hard just to compete with the faceroll classes. Nothing new in an MMO.

Right ok ... i used to play a warrior and hunter on WoW .. for loads of years

What would u reckon i shud pick if i don't like to be playing the most overplayed class etc ?

Bounty Hunters (Powertech) and Troopers (Vanguard) that spec as tanks/dps also operate at close range, 4-10m. Even though they carry guns they are still in melee range a lot and give a slightly different feel than the Jedi or Sith. Having played all 4 of these as tanks my personal preference was for a Powertech BH. They can perform very well in PvE and PvP.

The latest information is that the jedi classes aren't so overplayed at all. 55% for the 4 jedi classes versus 45% for the 4 non-jedi classes. (As mentioned by Dallas Dickinson in regards to their beta weekend metrics).

But I honestly think that if you really like warrior style gameplay and look & feel a lot, you'll have a blast force leaping around with a Sith Warrior or Jedi Knight.

    Good article on that here:

"Operatives (and Scoundrels) are the Frankensteins of healers. If you took the healing abilities of a paladin and gave them to a rogue, but left some medium-ranged attacks for good measure, you would have an operative. Two of the talent trees emphasis stealth-based melee dps, while the third talent tree is focused on healing."

"Mercenaries (and commandos) are, despite the heavy armor, play like a traditional caster. They have two ranged DPS trees, and one healing tree. If you like the idea of playing a mage in heavy armor that can heal, then this is the class for you."

"If you're looking for a very traditional caster experience, sorceror and sage are your best bet. Two trees are dedicated to spellcasting damage, and the third is focused on healing."

Btw me and quite a few other testers built DPS Jedi Gaurdian's, and they do roll face if built and played correctly, regardless of them supposed to be tanks, they havent pigeonholed people yet on class decisions and its completly viable to build dps tank classes right now.

Mess with the best, Die like the rest

For now I am convinced that Jedi Guardians/Juggernauts are the way to go unless you really like the style of using two weapons or you like hiding (hiding has its uses esp in world pvp).

Using the tank guardian spec for pvp actually works very well according to some very experienced posters on the SWTOR forums.

i played marauder through 30 in beta... i dont see why guardian/jugger would be any better. i absolutely wrecked most classes, especially smugglers. the only class that i would have to hound for more than just a few seconds to kill was trooper. always in the top 3 of damage dealt, and honestly i dont think i needed to try that hard to get there. makes up for the fact that marauders have little CC capability.

i REALLY doubt guardian/jugger puts out anywhere near the dps sentinel/marauder does. and even if they have the potential, it is only with a very specific spec, and skillful play, whereas a marauder can half ass DPS and put up the same numbers.

In the beta weekend I played a sent, I went through over 30 scenarios/bgs and didn't see one non-consular/inquisitor jedi of any spec top the damage charts except for the time that I did it (I was looking).  I and others occasionally hit top 2-4 but it wasn't common.  Melee jedi in general were getting mid to low damage numbers.  BUT - pvp isn't just about damage - it's also about survivability and burst and CC/utility and in most of those areas the guardian/jugg shines vs mara/sents according to what I've read.  I've seen many accounts of guardians doing well and the link I posted above was from someone that had played 1-50 multiple times and tried different specs/builds without condemning any particular one (and he has videos).

You won't find good posts like that usually on MMORPG.com. These forums are mostly filled with bad and useless topics.  Post over here if you want proper class informations: http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=34  Post on the class forums you are interested. There's some detailed guide there already.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

I spent nearly the whole weekend in PvP and there was a decent amount of IAs and BHs at the top (wasnt really looking at the losing, erm I mean Republic side).

I tried a DPS spec Juggernaut and topped the damage chart on most fights, occasionally being beaten by a sniper. I think a lot of the people playing Juggernauts were specced into the tank line, which would account for low damage. Most damage specs seem pretty viable.

I can vouch for this, since it's basically the same as the Juggernaut Immortal spec, and I did quite well in PVP with that.
