Experience gain in PVP

I only focused on PvE side on my short beta and as I'm not a big fan of battleground or warzones I never tried it. I'm more fan of open world PvP and skirmishes that happen casually while questing. I've never really liked chasing a ball or flag in game.

But, I do know there's some neat rewards that are only accessible if I do the PvP grind. The question is: if I grind those PvP games for reputation, will I get adventuring experience that counts towards leveling the same time?

I only ask this because I've had the unfortunate pleasure of leveling way too fast on previous mmorpgs, then I'm kind of "over leveled" and forced to skip a lot content since there's no point on doing lvl 15 quests if you are already close to 35. This was a huge buzz kill to me in hmmm... I think it was in Warhammer on Rift, can't remember that well anymore. It just sucked and made me hate the PvP grind even more since you can't manually turn off the exp gain.

If you've run more PvP in SWTOR, I'd like to hear how the exp gain is.

The experince gain from PVP was nerfed a lot during last beta weekend since players were leveling very fast from hutball and other instanced PVP matches. You won't level that fast if you decide only to do PVP but i have no idea if same xp gain applies to illum and FFA PVP zone too.

How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?

ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6.
US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian.
Subs will be so low there is no need for more
    Snoocky-How many servers?
The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...

Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.

xp gain is decent as a supliment, but you certainly cannot efficiently level up just by PVPing. why would you anyhow? if you are getting SWTOR to PVP only, i suggest you reconsider or be bitterly disappointed. the purpose of the game is story, not raiding, pvp, gear, or anything else. Blizzard has put every egg in the story basket.

You do gain a pretty decent amount of XP during PvP,  and you can gain rewards and XP (with PvP quests) etc.  at the later levels - not getting into any territory control or anything like that, as I didn't really do much of that in Beta.

Of course, the lower the level, the more XP you seem to get,  but its only because you level up faster...  so,  from 11 - about 17 you level pretty quickly in PvP,  in the higher levels, you level much more slowly as you would expect,  so while the XP gain is "good"  it sure won't feel like it.

It is a reasonably viable strategy to level up via pvp and doing your class questline, space combat dailies.

Once you have a character at max level you canthen gear that char up in end game, max out your professions and then start a second char to enjoy the story on.

consensus seemd to be that xp nerf still made pvp levelling viable.    I personally wouldn't class it as viable if it was less than 25% XP per hour less than the pve route.

Well, anything is viable if you enjoy it.  If all I want to do is PvP then yeah,  I can PvP all day and still get levels...  if by viable you mean.. "the best way to level up"  well then..  I'm sure there are a lot of ways that wouldn't be considered "viable".

XP from PvP will liekly be more than you saw on the beta weekends. They nerfed it pretty heavily before and i wouldn't be surprised if the servers come up on Tuesday with it tweaked to a value somewhere in the middle.

I hardly doubt that. The nerfing was done on basis of feedback and i believe that Bioware would like to keep the current leveling speed.

XP gains are constantly tweaked in the lead up to launches and it really wouldn't anything unusual for xp gains from any source to be different than seen during testing come launch day. Just sayin don't count yer chickens.

You're going to "overlevel" at some point regardless. If you're planning to clear every quest in a region, you'll easily overlevel a lot of stuff, especially in the early/mid-20's. I know I skipped an entire planet aside from my class quest because by the time I got there, everything was grey for me. And that was before the mission-xp buff.

If you really want the gear PvP offers, you can always wait till your higher level, like 40's+. A lot of the costs were fairly static in beta, every weapon before the top-tier were a set price, regardless of level, same with the armor. It was always roughly 3-5 matches, depending how well you did, to get some gear, and a typically a level every third piece. Tokens stayed the same, so it wasn't forcing you to spend in a level-range.

    Lets Push Things Forward

I knew I would live to design games at age 7, issue 5 of Nintendo Power.

Support games with subs when you believe in their potential, even in spite of their flaws.

I was disappointed by the amount of the nerf to pvp experience. The leveling speed doing pvp should be equal to that of pve.

Thanks guys for all the responses! I might in fact do as Haegemon proposed and save the PvPing for the later levels, so that I don't have to skip content so much due to overleveling. Well, at least that sounds like a solid plan. We'll see how it turns out in truth. Maybe I'll try it out and actually like the warzones for the first time in my mmorpg history. :)

PVP doesnt seem to award as much XP as it used too but it still awards a very large amount of XP, at early levels it is possible to level up from a couple of matches, i've leveled from 18 to 19 in about 3-4 PVP matches which to me seem to take much less time than questing. The space combat part of the game seems to give way too much XP because i've gained 3 levels the first time i got my ship from doing the all of the 3 initial battles and the the "daily" quest and it took maybe 30 min to complete all of them. For what it's worth they atleast ballanced it properly and all space missions take the same amount of time to complete even if you complete all of the objectives in half the time you get which is very possible except for the escort missions. The amount of XP you get from blowing things up seems very small but it accumulates to very high amounts 5-20xp per kill when you kill couple of 100's of fighter/turret/space monkey turtle hybrids + the base XP of the mission + bonus XP gives you a very nice boost which seems to be a must to level in a timely fashion. I've havent seen many dalies other than that the only daily i can remeber was on tython i'm not sure if it was even a daily but the quest was marked as "repeatable" but i've never bothered to explore it any further. I personally hate dalies and i feel that they are a cheap and lazy way of getting out of having to put new content in, same goes for Daily PVP quests since i dont find any mechanic that forces you to do somthing you might not want in order to get a reward a good design choice - PVP should reward the same amount of XP and other PVE comparable rewards based on the time you've invested in it as PVE. It should not give any additional rewards or be used as an daily xp boost.
