I dont see why they would, their sub numbers leveled off but they didnt drop off to obscurity for certain, RIFT is still competitive in the market. Keep in mind RIFT has to lose 150k subs to be where EVE is right now, thats not struggling people. I think its a pipedream to think TOR will adversly effect RIFTs numbers, I think It will hit WOWs numbers more than RIFTS, but alot of people are still holding out on RIFT as well. If TOR is as boring as its reviews make it out to be, it might be FTP before RIFT is, also DCU is FTP because its just a bad mmorpg, the best think about DCU is the scenery. But good luck with the pro TOR spin.
Where are you getting these numbers? How do you know that it has to lose 150k subs to be where EVE is? Isn't think something that is for the most part unknowable since they never release their sub numbers?

Yeah, he gives a nice corporate speak but honestly, I don't know where he thinks the numbers to keep producing income are going to come from when you have a bevy of games coming out next year and he's losing population in his population-dependant game right NOW.
Of course, I don't expect him or anyone at Trion to actually admit that they have a "Plan B" for Rift if the population keeps going south; that would just hasten the exodus.
But for anyone to think a corporate business doesn't seriously consider all options to keep a product alive including going into massive debt, firing/laying off employees, cutting content or just going FTP.. they don't understand that gaming is a business first.
The one thing people don't know is Trion already laid off people two years ago when things weren't going so hot.
Going F2P may get new people to check it out, but most the players like me didn't leave the game cause of the pricing, so even going F2P wouldn't make me want to come back to this skid mark of a game.

I did not leave because of the sub and so removing it is of no consequence to my decision to not return.

Trion World Network confirms layoffs but says games are unaffected
Business is business.
