Worst mmo launch ever?

EDITED:  http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=1854

MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ON THE SWTOR AGREE THAT THEY WOULD HAVE PREFERED A LAUNCH WITH LAG AND SERVER QUEUES THAN THE SITUATION WE HAVE NOW - I SUPPOSE THEY'RE ALL TROLLING?

Let's look at things this way. How many people are actually in and playing the game now? Not many obviously.

Let's compare this to a greatly problematic mmo launch, where the servers are struggling, some are crashing and so on.

I'd say more players would be enjoying themselves in option 2, where they just let everyone in, instead, most players are hammering their emails, the swtor site and gaming forums hoping they'll be in soon, when they might not be in for days.

Just which option is worse? The first option is, with the staggered launch, more players are locked out of the game than would have been if they just let everyone in at once.

It could have worked because of the time of day they chose to launch it, they chose the complete opposite of prime time. For me, this is the worst mmo launch ever, the game is up, some people are in, but the majority of people cannot play. This is actually worse than a problematic launch with servers crashing would have been.

They've effectively made the launch feel as bad as the worst launch you could imagine with constant crashes and the game being unavailable to the majority of players. Because that's exactly what it is, the game is not available to the majority of players, there's no question about it that a lot of players right now would like to play and they can't. No different than crashing servers and being unable to play.

I bet there would be a whole lot less annoyed people if they had just opened the servers up to everyone.

First the game isnt launched and second no its not the same as just let everybody in since than the servers will be so loaded that at worse it will be offline for days . So splitting it up is a good idea they even did give 2 extra headstart days to balance the load. Sure i dont like that i cannot login yet but better than crashing and not able to login at all .

So you didn't preorder the first day now it's their fault? Hit up your other MMOs today. I'm sure there will be less traffic there to annoy you.

Im sure they know what they are doing, given that they are the ones that know the bandwidth/processing/database strains that are existant on the server farms. Maybe the next 300million dollar MMO launching will take its launch strategy advice from some disgruntled clown spamming forums with threads that are CLEARLY nonsene, but i doubt it.

Its certainly too early to call but it would have to be a complete catastrophy of a launch to "better" Vanguard. Still, keep up the good work. Thats two nonsene threads from you and its early in the day. What will be next?

The only thing they seem to royally screwing up with so far, is the way the invites are handled right now.

It seems completely random! As people from december (like my own gf) are in, while people who pre-ordered back in summer are still locked out.

While i cannot speak for everyone obviously, I can speak for people that fit my demographic -- gainfully employed Adult with real life obligations.

If I had pre-ordered, I would not be able to log into play, until well into the Prime-Time (and even then I could not this week, as I am traveling for work).   My friends all have children, and would be getting them ready for school, day care, etc, as well as trying to cram in pre-work Gym.   I also have a few friends that are off skiing/snowboarding with the family or on vacation in Hawaii, for example -- and would never trade that to play a game.

So that might explain why some people may not be logged in this am.

Edit:  It also looks like they might be staggering admitance to the game in waves, as I am seeing people talking about 'second wave' of invites.

No, he has to amuse himself somehow whilst his bots play the game for him and he waits to train for a super cap!

    Really OP?

    Game launch: 12/20

    Early Access: 12/15

It is 12/13 2 days before the original early access is even supposed to begin and they are phasing in players filling up their servers over the next couple days.  I wouldn't be surprised if everyone is in by 12/15.

Seems like it is heading for the best MMO launch ever to me.  Are we on the same planet?  Trolls having to try pretty hard with SWTOR.  A sign of good things.

Burning Crusade was a bug-fest for the first week.  We had rolling restarts, patches and hotfixes non-stop.  I remember watching the motion interpolation messing up on wandering mobs.  They'd start out underground, move forward and up then back under ground in a saw-tooth pattern.  I will give them credit, after the first week it was solid.

Shhh, don't tell them that, Bioware can do no wrong, you automatically become a troll to the majority of the fanbois on this forum the second you say something that shows Bioware has made a mistake.

They are gating the HEAD START period, not the actual launch. The launch is next week.

Plenty of games have a headstart period for those who preorder...they just decided that they would let those people in using a wave-system. The launch will have as many people as possible playing at once.

    Early? It's almost 2pm.

Ah wait, typical redneck, thinking the USA is the only country in the world.

At the time I write this, the game has been live for 1 hour and 56 minutes, and you are upset the servers are still up and running? That some folks are actually playing? Hell, until a week or so ago, we didn't even think *anyone* would be playing until the 15th, so quit bitching.

Ok I say it is way too early to judge the entire launch as worst.

That said, I know definitely one of my friends is IN, and he preordered 4 weeks ago! So I can confirm *something* is wrong in the state of Denmark, err Dromund Kaas.

Its been documented for MONTHS that early access will be a staggered release so that server stability is at a maximum.

I have no idea why people are calling this the worst release ever, nothing has went wrong, other than players are demanding access even although they new it was staggered.
