It's almost time and people around the world are breathing into paper bags to calm themselves as the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic's head start program is about to begin. In a new article, we talk about the reasons why we're excited about the SWTOR Head Start. Read on!
The first reason head start is exciting is the ability to play through all the awesome content right away. Content in this game is like a giant Chinese buffet only the food is maxxed out gourmet made by some chef like Gordon Ramsey. The stories for the classes are exciting and very well thought out. In beta I played the Jedi Knight and Bounty Hunter and loved every second of the stories for both. From a person who got fed up with Dragon Age about half way through, Old Republic kept me wanting more in terms of what was happening to my character on the path I had chosen. In many ways the RPG aspect of the game is fantastic and full is a full on escape into the Star Wars universe. My advice for this week is to choose your main character very carefully, take your time and be specific. The reason is going back and re-rolling a Jedi because you didn’t like his face, well, you have a lot of story to go back through if you do. So for the head start, take your time and choose wisely.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

I played the beta and though i am no star wars fanatic (beyond the fact that i did see the movies as a kid), i actually like the game. its a nice change up from all the dark ages games

I am with you. I usually keep two online accounts going and this will be one. Nice switch up.
Me 3, I think I was 8 when the first movie came out... this game makes a nice change form elves and dwarves.
Glad so the overyhpe and EAs annoying fPR machine is finally over. To those who are playing have fun and enjoy it.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

"Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
Excellent article. I'm looking forward to this, and it seems the staggered login times is working very well from what I've been hearing.
A note about crafting. I'm actually quite disappointed in the crafting in this game. Yet another game that doesn't start crafting until 10th level when you've already outleveled anything that might be useful to you has really gotten old.
Mind you, I love this game, I really do. But it does have its problems (housing deficit is another).
Been waiting a long time for launch, its finally here. Only thing that sucks... "Skyrim" so damned hard to divide up a limited amount of time between two awesome games.

Yes, having a blast with SW:TOR. There is so much game there, will put Skyim on the backburner untill the DLC content stacks up.
Because you don't like it you hope it crash and burns? Get a life and let other people just enjoy it.
+1. Man, I understand being dissappointed it did not evolve into a game you enjoy, and that sucks for you. But loads of people enjoy it. Its a shitty thing to want it to die.
That said, I am not too worried about its future.
Really enjoyed the beta and cannot wait to play this live. Hadn't planned on getting it but once I played I was hooked.
The way they're dealing with this whole EGA-stuff is totally screwed up. They could've counted the people and when they entered their keys way ahead allready and give them their dates a week ago or so.
Now everyone is hitting F5, waiting for their mail and getting upset, seeing that there's people in allready. Shitstorm breaking loose in the official forums, stressing their servers even more so. And lot's of people trying to log in to the game, spamming the login-servers with requests etc...
BW/EA did try to make it as good as possible with this whole EGA-thingy, but they failed at this one.
Me too. I'd pretty much written this off as I watched the devs release information. Classes that looked like carbon copies of every MMO out there killed my enthusiasm. I applied for a beta weekend key on a whim, just bored at the time.
After playing it for a few hours I suddenly realised how much fun I was having. Completely changed my opinion of the game. I couldn't get a pre order but my copy has just been dispatched and should be here in 2-3 days, so I'll be joining in the fun on the 20th.
They're not doing hard dates/times because crap happens, and the fewer people involved, the better. The head start started 20 minutes late, probably something happened, but since no one was in yet, they had time to fix it.
And don't wait for the email. Start up the launcher from time to time and see if it says "Play". I was playing for an hour this morning before the email arrived.
Personally its a load of crap, I even registered my code by July 26th and was not given access. You can argue that its "extra-time" and the game isn't live but the moment you start letting anyone in and there is no wipe; it is live. Period. Don't screw me over cuss I pre-ordered, thats how I feel
Gah, no invite yet. But I did get my CE box today with no problems.
Guess I'll be off to Skyrim again until that 'Play' button will finally light up!
I was severely disappointed by this game. Utter letdown for me in several areas. Still, that is just my opinion so all the more power to those looking forward to it. Have fun!
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
I am finally in and looking forward to getting back home to play it on something other than my work laptop for saving my names!
Still waiting for my early access email, but I cant wait! So nice to be so close to finally playing.
Yep crafting is something that is an afterthought in this game. Foolish too, as it keeps people in game longer. You have to understand that Bioware is used to making single player rpgs hence crafting is not something they put great thought into.
Another reason you will see server merges by summer sometime, unless they add a lot more content soon.
Housing might be added later, not many MMO's put it in at start.
I am not playing myself, but my niece loves the IP so I bought it for her for xmas. Funny thing is I got the notice for an early invite, but she won't have it until xmas.
Anyone that actually thinks crafting in SWTOR is an afterthought hasn't actually researched it at all. With modding playing such a big role in gear optimization, as well as reverse engineering being used to make sure ALL crafted items, no matter how insignificant, are put to use, you'd have to really be stretching it to say that crafting wasn't a major part of this game.
If you hate the game, fine...but spouting misinformation just to be spouting it is weak.
Worst launch ever.....

Ah if you had played SWG, a game that was introduced 10 years ago, you would be rolling on the flooring laughing at Bioware's futile attempt at it. Don't have to stretch anything when looking at the crafting in SWTOR.
I played SWG for short time, and I've also played Vanguard and EQ2. I'm fully aware that all three of those games have excellent, in depth crafting systems. But I wasn't responding to a post saying, "TOR's crafting isn't as good as SWG, Vanguard, or EQ2." I was referring to a post that said, "TOR's crafting is an afterthought." And sorry, but that is just not true. The modding system, the reverse engineering to acquire better versions of the gear up to an epic level makes crafting a very important part of TOR, even if it doesn't involve a mini-game to make the piece of gear like those other three games do.
Same, although I want to wait until I can upgrade my rig. I could play with max graphics, but for outdoor areas had to turn draw distance down. Until then I will continue to enjoy Skyrim.

Kind of like City of Heroes was for me. Superhero MMO, hun wha? Played beta and enjoyed it so played it for awhile. SWTOR seems to be going same route for me. I enjoyed the movies, but was not excited about the MMO at all. Played beta and was drawn in.
