What really drew me to gemstone(a simutronics game) is the rewards you get for progressing. You get more spells, ability to use better weapons and armor, society skills(please have something like this in HJ!), guild skills, etc. I especially like the great spell lists, very original and always getting even more useful and better as you level up. This is much better than WoW or other games where they throw so many spells at you that are often worthless to start with or after you get upgraded versions. All MMO's start off fun pretty much, but as I progress in many games I often feel like leveling up and playing just isn't worth it. HJ Devs, please try to keep the rewards coming as the game progresses like gemstone did.

I agree; we need society skills. Those rocked.
As a side note, the metals found in GS4 and Dragonrealms should also make an appearance in the game, as they are part of the world. (Eonake, Vultite, Imflass, etc.)
Personally I like the skill set in AC2 - were as when you level you gain skill points - and can place the skill points into any skill tree besides specialty class trees... for example in ac2 i had a Enchanter who was an archer -- my ranged skills were trained to use some of the bow skills, i also trained all the enchanter buffs and orbs - as well as some mage skills like a self heal skill, it really helped with customizing your skills -- however you can only learn one class skill therefore a ranger, cant become a enchanter - etc....
I agree with the first post - hunting and grinding to level up only to find the new skill you get sux
it was great getting points for exp, and ones to use to purchance new skills as you level -- turbine did a good job with the skills -- tobad the devs didnt listen to there people id still be playing it.

It was the same for the original Asheron's Call as well -- the one thing I enjoy about games like DragonRealms is that you don't have to wait for that level to get points to put into skills... With DragonRealms, as you do things (engage in combat, evade blows, block attacks with your shield, perform magic, steal, hide, sneak, etc) you actually increase your knowledge of that skill and your ability to perform that skill. Then, when you had certain amounts in those skills (for a Barbarian say, 4 skill points in a couple of weapons, evasion and some other survival skills), you'd be able to get another level.
The other nice side is that, outside of a few restrictions (barbarians can't use magic but excel in combat, Moon Mages can use magic but aren't focused towards combat), you can do train most all of the non-class specific skills... Wanna be a singing, performing thief? Practice your vocals and percussion skills. I think it's one of those unique things that have allowed GemStone to flourish for, heh... 16 years now and DragonRealms for about 9 years.
Man, I feel old now.

Have they decided on what type of skill system they going to use? It sounds as if they are going to try and stick with what as worked well in the past (hoping!!) I think that amongst other things is what disapointed me with world of war craft, now dont get me wrong I love playing WoW besides a few things like there spell system, and the fact the game is more like a first person shooter or an arcade game rather then a rpg (sorry the game just lacks depth); but I dont care much for having my spells handed to me, I enjoy complete customization. Think we can look forward to the customization we enjoyed in AC1-2 and and simu's past games?

Is this a small hint as to what's expected from the exp/levelling system? I know one of the things that kept drawing me back to the Simu games was the experience system.
Making a Moon Mage/Barbarian and being able to roleplay that aspect was great fun. Although because I was a mage I learned at a slower rate and armor hinderances weren't as easily 'practiced' away, I did a fair job and enjoyed every ounce of being able to go hand to hand with rangers and barbarians.
Not a hint. They keep me packed away in a small, damp dark corner doing coding for a few specific systems and I don't get out much to see what else it going on. As the time draws closer I'm sure the information will be revealed... We're getting a redesign to the website at some point in the near future, so keep checking -- perhaps more info will be available then.

Well I hope your dark damp corner at least has A/C :P what is your part in the development on HJ? In otherwords what do you do for simu?
hey do you ever read your mmorpg mail?

Where I physically work, I do, yes. I mainly write code... mostly dealing with the individual quests and whatnot. I haven't read my mail yet, but I'll check it now.

Yes, he's an excellent code monkey! And devious, of course, but that's practically a requirement.
lol, the devious part or the code monkey?
i applied for GM, i hope its not code monkey, but the other half works :P
