Good lord, another noob question? That's right.

Hello DAOC players. I just picked up the platinum editon along with the catacombs expansion. I'm going to be joining one of the classic servers because I hear a lot of people are starting over there. My question is what race/class is absolutely overused? I hate getting a new game and having the exact same chracter as so many other people. Thanks for any help.

Im new to DAoC & it took 3 minutes before people started discussing why vampiir have not been nerfed yet (no other classes where mentioned except some that already have been "nerfed" (=made worse/less effective)).

    1.  Vampiirs were nerfed.

    2.  There are many posts, including one on this board about how vamps can easily be taken out.

    3.  It is possible for other tanks to have as many if not more hits than a vamp w/o buffs.  There is a champion in my guild that has 200 more hits than my vamp does and he is not buffed at all.

    4.  The people who are complaining are just following a trend or get killed a lot in the BG by vamps.

Vamps, Warlocks, and archers are the most played classes right now.  Given NF and MoS archers will own RvR on NF.  Vamps and warlocks are strong and new classes.

Play the class you want to play and do not worry about it.  If you want to know what people need, they need support classes.

Actully I play a Hib - Vamp and I find that this class is not being overplayed at all, I see just as much others as I see vamps, it must just seem like there is so many vamps because alot of vamps goto the battlegrounds and such. Actully im surprised how little vamps I do see.

Guild Wars - Rorick Aurlith E/Mo pumped up with the best armor and weapon, has all his skills, and runes. PvP King!

Dark Age of Camelot - Leaton 50 Vampiir - Lamorak - Guild: Magic and Mayhem!

Interesting to see those stats.  It looks to me like people are starting with their alt accounts with PL bots and easy farming classes before they work on some of the more mainstream (traditional) RvR classes.  Seeing all of the archers, assassins, and nukers down at the bottom is how I get this.  It appears that self-buffing and healing classes also have good numbers.

Not sure how much I trust that list becaue I did a /who a few days ago and got larger numbers on some classes than are listed.

I do see a lot of bots in tow.  I think there are many people playing support classes, but those numbers should fade as people get bored of them like they did on the regular server

Assassins will be at the bottom.  They are slow to level and droped loot isn't good enough to bother with.  So you need good money to get player crafted armor and spellcraft it.  Further MoS.  Assassins now have to spend a lot of points training MoS just to have a chance of getting to an archer.  Often assassins end up charging and melee an archer rather than ganking them before in OF.

So assassins have no BB, horrible armor, slow to level, no real PvE use, and NF has overpowered archers.

Casters are squishy.  Without brittle guards and powerfonts out they are just easy realm points for archers and perhaps tanks.

What surprises me are that rangers are the only archery class that is widely played and that there are not more animists.  Animists make great farmers, levelers, and one of the few casting classes to still be able to do well on these servers.

Casters do fine.....yes they are squishy, they are supposed to be squishy, but with large damage dealing capabilities.

Just to brag and to show that casters can do just fine. I took a luri chanter up to level 7, brought her to lions, and summoned a nuking pet. I casted my speed spell and zoomed on over to apk. I then just did the same thing for about an hour. Stun, nuke, pet nuke, nuke, pet nuke, nuke, dead alb :D They got realy mad after a while :D

Now I know there is a diferance between BG and Big boy RVR but I think the difference won't be that big on the new servers...at least in the begining.

As for the vamps, they realy don't need another nerfing..I started on Gareth as an Animist, leveled him to 10 and realised I needed something that can farm a little better. I was told vamps could farm so I figured what the heck? Now he is level 22 with fully SC armor and I have trouble killing yellows because of the not so recent vamp nerf. Oh and in BG, don't get me started, 2h swords HURT! (ouch!) Well, thats why I made a chanter, so I can do some decent farming and maybe get some aurulite gear for my vamp or try and rework some SC gear for him to give him some more HPs (700 right now at level 22)

I have no problems with casters being squishy.  What I have a problem with are archers with longer range than any spell and archers have MoS.  Fix those issues and I will be a convert.  It would also be nice if bolt casters would get some love, but that is never going to happen.
