Favorite MMORPG and why

RhevinRhevin Member UncommonPosts: 611

Yea, just curious as toy uor MMORPG experiences and which game was your favorite and why.

Currently mine is World of Warcraft. It is getting kinda boring so I am cruising around to see what else is out there. In World of Warcraft, I enjoy the the crafting, being able to take my 43 rogue and wiping out smaller NPC posts single handedly, and grouping with my guild on Ventrilo and going on a raid.

Just trying to perk up some ideas and input on the games that are out there. Maybe give some folks and better idea on what they would like to play.

I just ask that, if you need to bash/flame, go somewhere else. Thank.::::17::

Personally i'm playing and enjoying eve.

Roght now GF and I are teamed up doing kill missions - its fun and fast and chllenging.
We have an Interceptor(me) and Battlecruiser(her) and we fly around and shoot things. She takes care of the big batleships and stuff, while i take care of enemy small craft and tacklers.

sometimes we'll go on trade runs to make money, and we hang with corp mates occassionally, but its nice fun atm...

GF is constantly harping on about WoW, so we might end up subbing to that when it comes to europe.

Overall favorite is EverQuest because of the depth of gameplay. Raids in EQ are unmatched in any game, anywhere.

Sentimental favorite is Ultima Online since it was my first graphical MMOG and I got to do pretty much everything in that game that that game had/has to offer.

A Tale in the Desert also ranks extremely high on my list due to its unique design and exceptional community.

My favorite mmorpg was Jumpgate.. just because it was the first MMO to have a skilled based space flight engine, along with the only mmo that is seperated from the rest of the mmos which are mideval RPG with a dice rolling combat system.

Of course, Jumpgate's Episode II expansion pack was arguably in the "top 5" list of epic disasters in gaming.

Mine would be City of Heroes

Very easy to understand and get going. Best RP experience I have had so far.

CoH is lacking in content. I had some great fun in SWG with friends but game play could not keep me.

EQ2 is loaded with content but now I find myself literally fighting to stay awake after 10 min in game.

EQ I played the longest, which says something.

Ultima Online is community oriented instead of "kill X monster" one of the best IMO
EverQuest is crap for me, i got too addicted and had to go with specialists. EQ only destroy lives, literally
Dark Age of Camelot is still the best PvP MMORPG out there
Anarchy Online is the best sci-fi MMORPG and a very good game overall

id have to say the most fun ive had so far is city of heroes, but as stated, its crafting/economy and PvP free, which made it weak after 6 months.

Soooo i bought EQ2 one for me one for my spouse, man does this game suck..dont get me started the final draw was " sorry us at SoE failed to provide you with content, so we have decided to sell you quest.".

Wow i have played for a week now, and besides it minimal flaws, its a great game, everything EQ2 screwed up on wow did great on. The onething i think is better in eq2 is the knowledgebase help..but after 10-15 lvls its no longer used.

ive played daoc 2 months<got in late>/planetside<1month>/SWG<1month> qand i think WoW will be my fav cause bottomline, this game is just FUN...

if CoH makes a great PvP system i may enjoy that for stragic combat.../shrug but with no economy or crafting my wife doesnt see it as a mmo, which to an extent, i agree.

    MMORPG on, soldiers!!!

Sigh even an unrelated post asking for favourite mmorpg has to turn to a EQ2 vs WoW.

sometimes you really got to wonder about folks behind the keyboards.

Anyhow favourite of all time  for me would be EQlive  with a close second going to to DAoC.

    <Points to sig>

My favorite MMORPG is Lineage 1. I've tried probably 80% of mmorpgs out there and Lineage is simply the most fun of all of them. In these kind of games you will at one point end up killing monsters over and over again, Lineage is the only game where I can do this and not get bored, I don't exactly know why that is so, but it is. Combine that with the best item enchantment system in the biz, no hard level caps, diverse and interesting places/monsters,  and an awesome castle siege system.... Yep Lineage gets my vote for best MMORPG, if ya can't look past the 2D sprite based graphics that's a shame.

EVE-Online, mostly because it's skill system(offline skill gaining) that allow me to log in when I like and do what I like. Be it pvp, missioning or even some mining operation with corp (I avoid mining alone). I have played lot of mmorpgs and really hate leveling and how I am usually forced to look for right level bunny spawn and repeatively camp it so that my toon can advance and usually do insane amought of that camping before I can move from bunny spawn to kill pigs image.

  • kiniarkiniar Member Posts: 18

Horizons had great potiential, but fell on its face.

CoH was fun for awhile but lack of content, and general repetitiveness left me wanting for more.

EQ was fun for awhile, probably played this the longest when it first came out, probably lasted over a year. It was fresh, the exploration was spectacular for the time and the community was great back then.

But the best online gaming experience I had to date was Troll MUD. The community was awesome, my guild was tight knit and really felt like a brotherhood.

But it basically comes down to the best MMORPG for you is the one that the community is a good fit for you. Friends make any experience better, annoyances make them worse.

UO for me. Community as someone has mentioned, house customisation, pets, PvP, crafting etc. It may not be the game it was a few years back but still the best imo.

I agree with you on Jumpgate it is the best and only MMO game I have ever subscribed to. My first MMO was free and was a top-down mideval game.

Jumpgate appeals to me because of the physics and of being a pilot. I like that. I also like the community and developer's opinions on the game and what works.

Episode II wasn't a disaster. It came out three days after my B-day and I LOVED IT! When I logged in. I was docked at a station as a tow full of cargo. I needed to get to another station a few sectors away. What I realize to my horror (as a character and player of the game) was that in apparently every sector there were Conflux (the only AI-controlled NPC enemy, a type of pinkish-purple alien with various types/levels).

Since my craft was loaded with cargo, I wasn't going as fast. I was able to get an escort to fight off the flux as I went through the sector. The best part was seeign a developer in the game talking about the new stuff and I think he even got some combat in (whether it was PvP or against the Conflux I dunno).

Once I docked I sold my cargo and got in my fighter. That was a fun day. There were problems after ward from bugs, but not game-stopping stuff. There were also questionable changes to items that were the focus of many player debates. But the game survived. The only bad thing about the expansion was that it was announced a year prior and many thought it wouldn't have taken that long.

The developers learned from it and do not plan on big releases like that. Which is why now that try to have monthly patches which are really better and gives players a reason to play.

However the best part of Jumpgate is that 90% of the events that goes on are player-driven. Players hold contests in races, flux kills, and other stuff. There is even a player-run event that comes every so often called Weekend Of War. WoW is an event that takes place in an area of space that has no rules, which don't give penalties for PvP. There are four teams based in four stations in that area. Three days of fun in which each team fights others and no non-PvPer gets upset, because they know not to get in there if they want to live.

Dang, this didn't start as long as I had though ::::33::

It has to be SWG for me cause I played that game for almost 1 1/2 years and had a blast with it. ::::32::
Don't know what makes the game so great but I had a great time in it and I'm thinking about returning to it again cause I couldn't stick with any other MMORPG for more than 2 months since I got SWG.
