Today i bought myself a Wii, specifically for the purpose of playing Zelda Skyward Sword....After hooking the regular Red/White/Yellow cables to my HDTV, i was horrified at the picture it put out. Now, i know Wii isn't known for it's graphics- and that's fine, but this is too much. If i leave it at native settings, it only takes up maybe 1/5 my screen, and is very hard to see. Using my TV settings, i expanded it to something i can actually see, but the picture is beyong bad, hard to read even the words on screen
After doing some digging, i learned most see much better results using a COMPONENT cable instead of the composite it comes with-However, my TV doesnt have Component Hookups, only HDMI, Standard R/W/Y hookups, and VGA.
I called Best buy, and they have the cable i need for VGA.....My question is
Will the picture be any better? The guy at BB told me using the VGA port might make the picture WORSE than it is.
I also have an SD tv, but when i hook it to that, the picture it puts out is very mushed, as in, there is 6 inches of black above the picture, and 6 inches of black screen under the picture....any advice would be great!!!
EDIT: from reading other forums, it seems the biggest problem is 480I vs 480P....will using the VGA give me 480p? thanks again
The Deep Web is sca-ry.

HDMI adapter here for Wii. You will still need a HDMI cable though.
Several models to choose from:

There are a couple of options.
First off, what TV is it - because there should be some settings for watching normal 480i/p sources. VCRs, DVD players, older consoles, etc are all still standard definition.
Wii's graphics don't look ~that~ bad - once it's hooked up properly. They don't look great, but it's bearable.
Component video really is the best option. One way that I have done it is to run it through my Stereo AV receiver, then that has a HDMI output to the TV - so my TV sees it as HDMI, although it has to route through my receiver. This isn't a whole lot different than a Composite to HDMI converter (there are several on Amazon listed for around $30), although it comes built into my Yamaha and many AV receivers.

Composite cable is probably the absolute worst picture quality you could get (the standard Yellow for video plus Red/White for audio). S-Video would be a step up (but not huge).
You probably don't want to touch VGA - most TV's handle this input poorly.
There is also a setting inside the Wii configuration for setting Widescreen or not - it will look mushed or stretched if you have this set improperly.
Chances are the Wii will not be capable of getting anything more out even if you use component or hdmi cables. It doesn't have the memory to render anything beyond 480p. So what would the point be in upscaling a 480p image? Just make sure your settings are right.
The wii sucks.....
wait for the wii u this spring, it will play zelda in high def.
return the wii before your 30 days or whatever are up at the store you got it from.
alternitively, hook the wii up to an old 480 tv, itll still be ugly, but it wont smush or stretch anything, itll just be low def ugly.
HOW DARE YOU!!! There are some stellar games for the wii exclusively out there like......
............
.....
Wii bowling was pretty cool.
Just takes a little imagination..
Little wine or margaritas..get the wife and or girlfriend (not both at same time) tipsy, and talk her into playing the Wii game of choice... naked.
Picture looks fine to me..
and you get to play the best game ever invented.
Sorry for hijack..
