As if there haven't been enough articles about Star Wars: The Old Republic on the internet this week, we've decided to add one more to the fray. From the storylines, to the Bounty Hunter and the Head Start access waves, we offer a few thoughts on each.
I know it seems like our site is in a deluge of Star Wars: The Old Republic content lately, but can you blame us? We did the same thing with DCUO, Rift, and we’ll do the same thing with every other new big launch in the future. Because that’s when the fever-pitch for a game’s info is at its highest and that’s when all of us (media and players alike) can’t get enough of whatever hot new thing is on the market. Plus, have we mentioned? It’s F**KING STAR WARS.

I would also mention that though Bioware is controlling the influx... it is quite the influx. Be expected to wait. Trying to log into The Harbinger server I was #800 in queue with a 50 min wait.
I am not complaining as I understand the nature of a new game. However, I did want to let those reading this to know what to expect come actual launch day.
One soloution is that if you're a sad SWTOR fanbois no life basement dwelling l3w53r such as myself you can roll a darkside char on an NA/EU server then a Republic char on an EU/NA server so that if you want to dodge prime time and play a different story it's not a big deal.
SWG dies today ..... it's like discovering you have a massive electric bill on the same day you won the lottery jackpot!
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

To match sarcaasm with sarcasm I present.
You could of always spent the time to read the first few pages on your browser FAQ.
CTRL-Wheel mouse is your friend.
As yes. Your resolution and your lack of ctrl-wheel are at fault here.
The screens look fine for me with a native normal person don't need to be extreme resolution.
You keep X-com safe there with that monitor buddy?

I forgot to register my code untill mid november, I still got my email at noon yesterday, I would imagine almost every pre-order is in game by today.
Excellent article. Bout time some logic is sent to this. The insanity of the players on the official forums is just unbeliable. If you go by their mind set, the sky is falling because they haven't gotten in yet.
I wasn't being sarcastic, fyi. I was actually informing intelligent readers of this article as some will no doubt (even with a warning) bitch and moan about queue times. No skin off my nose as I have plenty to do in the mean time (RL, skyrim, MW3, BF3, etc) to keep me plenty occupied.
But you are correct when saying there are things to do in the mean time when sitting in a queue.
If your sarcasm was directed at me... then, sadly, it was misguided. If it wasn't, then good day to you and happy gaming.
No one knows what to expect launch day. they still have 3ish days to tweek things. stop making asumptions people...lol
I'll be watching what happens on the 20th but I have no wish or desire for the server clusters to buckle and crash, I genuinely hope it works out ok for Bioware. But an inquiring perception will be watching...
To be honest I liked the fact that I got in late 15 Dec..got to jump on a lower pop rp server with my Sith. Going to wait until after the 20th and 25th to choose a Republic server. I figure Bioware will release a few new servers during those big dates:) Have fun all...having a blast so far:)
I found on entering the 13th to my shock that my computer which I thought was a midlevel compatible comp is not adequate! I am running a 3 or less frame count inside buildings, which means at least a 1 sec delay for everything from moving the combat. Out side is ok, nothing but a sligt hesitation but inside buildings it is impossible to play. I have a 2.53 dual core with 2 gig ram and run everything from WOW, coH, Lotro, STO etc...so this was something of a surprise.
I am not blaming anyone but my computer, I was just a little surprised since I had no problems in Beta. Yes I went to game options and turned everything down but found little results. So I will be hunting up an upgrade for my computer (prob a new video card + ram) because I really like this game. Have managed to make a Jedi Knight to level 11 but simply cannot play on Coruscant - buildings are everywhere and most quests are inside. Very frustrating since I absolutely love the storylines and cinematics (which play fine).
I knew what and how early access was for and am glad it was set up that way. Not a perfect solution but better than any other major launch so far ( I have been in a bunch of them). BTW there has been no suggestion as to anything better as a solution, only complaints about what they are trying.
Wish I knew why my comp worked so well in Beta but falls down on the job in actual game.
Because there are alot more people in early access than there were in beta.
Just an example... before they instituted the phases, you could be on corruscant near the senate plaza and there was so many pc's, npc's and other animations going on, that you were lucky to get a frame every few seconds. It was absolutely horrible. They started using phases and its gotten better but it is by no means perfect. I think it's the same problem.
It will improve once everyone has spread out more between all the levels.
And I really do have to say, you should upgrade. My rig is only three years old and I'm upgrading. It currently has an amd 940 black, 4 gigs of ram, and a geforce 260 core 216. It's not nearly enough even though its overclocked. In fact, I'm running in to artifacting all over the place.
The parts I have for my new rig is an i7 processor, 6 gigs of ram, and I'm going to get a geforce 570.
So you quote the most jammed pack server as the norm? The harbringer was teh first and most populated server out of all of them. Then you "accidently" forgot to mention that they already add new servers and you do hav the choice of picking a server that isn't even heavily populated. If you want to "let those reading know what to expect" then tell them everything.
Turn off Shadows. For some reason the shadows in this game take a lot of gpu power. You'll be able to run it then. But still, 3 years is the normal lifespan for a pc if you want to keep playing the newest games
Upgrading mine as well, though it can play at high detail with 25-30 fps (withouth shadows). Zotac 560 Ti's in sli, should suffice for another 3 years
Currently playing: Skyrim, SWTOR
Looking forward to: Guildwars 2 ! modestly excited for: The Secret World
Have played intensely: Rift, Eve, AoC, WoW, Conquer 2.0, Astonia 3
Have played less intensely: just about everything else
