Damn, I completely forgot about Game of Thrones! Should've said that one, there's a great setting!
How do you forget about Game of Thrones? Shame on you! Shame shame and more shame =(. It'd almost surely be ruined by an mmo though. Ie. the intrigue probably wouldn't translate at all or would be exceptionally hard to convey.
Final Fantasy .. Done properly . But i didnt like the 2 that came out already so guess i will never be able to actually enjoy that. (Cant wait for the new one to come out ) Singleplayer but meh...imma still enjoy it .

Sword of Truth Series by Goodkind would be an interesting concept.
would there be a way to make the mmo based only on the first 4 books? because in my eyes the series went to poop after the 4th book :
Aww you gotta be kidding me man. After the first few books is when things start heating up. Jagang fighting for control, Sister of the dark creating new evil entities. The world opening up. Richard understanding his powers. In my opinion the only book that couldn't hold my interest was Law of Nine's. Completely killled the series. Also i hear that he is making a new edition to the series.
"People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."
2. The Malazan Book of the Fallen series from Steven Erikson
3. The Dark Tower from Stephen King
4. The idea behind the original The Matrix (leave out the idiot crap in the sequels)
Of course, they would have to be B2P for me to play them!
i heard there making a movie of the dark tower. or some sort of series. i know my wifes sister loves those books. could make for a good game.
They are working on a series of movies augmented by miniseries in between the movies. It's a very epic story and IMHO the best stuff King has ever written. Also, if the devs for a potential game have any imagination, you could literally have almost any type of worlds. The idea behind that is that The Gunslinger's world is 'thinning" so every so often he ends up in parallel worlds that usually resemble his but with a twist (in one book they end up in the world of the Wizard of Oz). It would be really interesting, I think to try something like that.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
Discworld (if Terry Pratchett wrote a lot of the dialogue)
Shadowrun
Fifth Element
World of Darkness
A Fire Upon the Deep (Vernor Vinge distant future sci-fi)
Matrix (I know it was tried and failed, I'd like to see someone try again)
Otherland sounds really interesting so far
Whoops, forgot to add Neuromancer or Snowcrash
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
@loke666: i remember reading good omens at the beach one day & laughing so hard i was crying, and everyone @ the beach was looking at me like, what the heck is that dude reading? great times, great book. it makes me so sad that TP is so sick with that very dreadful alzheimers :[
Funniest book I've ever read, and I reread it at least once a year. Plus loaned (never to be seen again!) countless copies to people unfortunate enough never to have read it.
And yeah, the thought of Terry Pratchett having alzheimer's is really depressing. He's not only my favorite author, he's my favorite philosopher.
