Lost interest already...

I admit I wasnt too interested in playing Sw:Tor from the beginning.

All of its features seemed like something I had done for years and years already, minus the cutscenes.

Participating in the Beta sort of sealed it for me.. Two days in I was bored.  Questlines were kind of convoluted and some were difficult to locate, I had to spacebar past every cutscene eventually cuz I so badly wanted to get in some friggin gameplay.

Also, while the main story was cool, everything outside of it seemed pointless. "Why am I collecting bantha stool samples?"

Pvp was fun, lightsaber combat was cool... but when u realize there are only 4 classes, with 2 advanced classes each it kinda lacked in comparison to some of the more Character-focused titles out there.

So... not a huge hater by any means. I think the game has some merit if only because of the "Nothing else to do" factor... But immersion was a bare mininum outside of cutscenes, cutscenes got olld fast and especially when I was just in the mood to go out and kill stuff, and low level of character customization made it really hard for me to justify making this my new mmo of choice..

I've read a lot of love posts, and a lot of hyperbola... but any other level headed reactions about the possibility that this game is boring bo boring?

Thanks anyways... I appreciate you giving bioware some money even though you had no interest in the title. Don't feel bad though... this is how it works with pretty much anything you don't have interest in but you spend money on it just in case... for instance a chic I dated wanted to go watch tennis... I had no interest in tennis... we watched people play tennis... it sucked... oh well.

Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.

soo the OP is telling us he followed the hype and, let that be his decision? thats just stupid IMO, never ever waste your money on something you THOUGHT would be for you, not just for MMO's but in life in general, but as dextar said EA/bioware thank you for your hard earned cash... i'm not a massive Stars Wars fan i did my research and didn't listen to reviews or hype, Its still today WoW in space for me... hence not getting the game ever, My Misses enjoyed a nice Dinner date instead money well spent =)

I understand what the OP is saying. I was in the same position but it ended up the opposite for me. I wasn't sure about it. The beta wasn't quite what I had hoped and then on launch I saw a lot of improvements and I am hooked.

Not everyone can like everything, you pays your money you takes your chice, I may spend 40 Quid on an MMO & play it for 6 months but in the same timeframe on a console I used to blow way more money so MMO are still very good value as far as I am concerned, even if it only lasts a month most console games last only that or less.

When was the last time you in beta, I'm still debating on spending money in this game because I am bit burnt out on the current gen style, for the past few days majority people claim it was the same as the beta, but you said there were a lot of improvements, what are they?

TO clear it up Im not really upset about spending money on the game... I've tried a LOT of games, its a hobby so I chalk it up...

Im just a little upset about the game being soooo boring... Yeah sometimes its like watching a movie unfold in front of your eyes... and sometimes its like waiting for your mom to give you all the ground rules before you go to the prom.

It's not as though the OP had access to a beta weekend to try the game out. Go easy on him/her.

The pacing of the game is extremely slow, but instead of lots of downtime, ala oldschool MMOs, you a whole lot of running around.  Doesn't helps that so much of it is through identical looking terrain, and that they designed the maps to be so expansive, in a game where they aren't full of a whole lot of anything.

I think that might be part of why it feels so lifeless, it's all just so unnecessarily spread out.  Even corridors and stairways are all so huge.  Might make sense, if the game were packed full of bustling NPCs or players, but that's not how it's designed.  Alternatiely, if the maps were designed to pack the content a little tighter, it might feel more alive.  Instead, they went with huge and empty, for some reason.

I think when people talk about immersion, or the game feeling too static, they are essentially saying that the gameworld, and thus the gameplay, is very boring.  I've been trying to play this afternoon, but found myself literally nodding off.  Need more caffiene just to be able to keep doing all this monotonous running around.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Rizel. If you were not blown away in beta or got bored I would hold off as there are a few immersion killing problems right now. Queues are pretty bad for 1 and the graphics are worse than beta..

I pre-ordered and stopped playing and I am waiting for a graphics patch ( supposedly it is coming ). Evidently they had a probelm with the high resolution textures so you won't see them in game now. :(

I didn't want to ruin the experience so I am waiting ( 4 chars to level 4 lol )

    Laughed at the collecting..

I made a thread that suggests that the game isn't so much boring as it is a-bore. (the idea is that it won't make you more bored as you go along but rather the same level boredom throughout)  At no point will you go "gosh this is BORING!..." but instead your left feeling "and?"..

I never saw a purple cow.
I never hope to see one.
But I can tell you anyhow
I'd rather see than be one.

Graphics worse then beta, they were actually improved.........  Anywyas if you dont like MMO style combatt or themepark mmo's like wow and/or you didn't the game in beta, do not buy this game.  Wait for 6 months after some major patches have been released then maybe try it.

With that said.  I personally loved the game and I am playing it.  I like MMO combat and enjoy a nice Bioware game experience.  Its win win for me.

Well IMO, even if they took out the entire MMO poortions of the game. I would still pay the money and pay a monthly fee for t just to run through all the class stories.  Bioware did make the solo content just as good as its other SPRPG's.

But on the other hand, I like the MMO portions of this game and have a great guild of people to play with, so its everything I need for my gaming ATM.

Basically this. Sorry OP if you want a pity parade take it somewhere else. Enough of us here and other places have been critical of this game for the identical reason you listed, then they had a open BETA to test this.

It took me all of 10 levels and other research to reach the same conclusions and stay where I am.

  • StonesDKStonesDK Member UncommonPosts: 1,805

I don't quite understand the decision making here.

You found the game boring during beta and somehow you thought it would be different at release?

Sounds more like desperation to find something to play. If that's your motivation then keep logging in and be bored. Why not? You have nothing else to do

Yes, but if you can finish that sentence with, ". . . but so did she" It didn't turn out to be a total waste.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I played the beta for about ten hours and just didn't much like the game. However, unlike him I didn't buy a copy anyway. I really don't understand the mentality of burned out MMOers who let their boredom rule them and  force them into buying a game they don't care for. All these people are doing is adding to their own sense of dissapointment and at the same time rewarding a company for making a product they dislike. Pretty much guaranteeing that this sad state of affairs will continue.

So Mr. OP, no wories if you didn't like the game. But if you were still foolish enough to buy a copy anyway, you have only yourself to blame.

    @ up

    agreed

    @OP

You did a mistake buying game then. I find many people doing this kind of thing nowadays. They find some game not suit their tastes or having in-game or out-game things that they don't like, but they still buy game.

Why? Sorry cause this is just stupid. Plain stupid.

Really if you do research and game seem like it is not for you, then do NOT buy it. Spend money on something else or even (omg!) save this money. Not enough ppl saving money this days in west imo :/

OP you even participated in beta and did not like it. So seriously, why in world you bought it?

Same pattern I see with f.e. Call of Duty.  Many people I know whine and moan that there is no change, that new CoD's are just practically map packs, etc but they still BUY every new CoD and then stop playing it after 2 weeks...

Seriously people grow some balls and stop blindly following crowd...

Buy things you think you'll enjoy ONLY.

They sold at least a million copies, making it a little hard for me to believe it mattered one way or another whether I contributed to that.  So even though I'm very critical of the game, there are some things I like about it, and for me, it's entertaining enough to be worth the box price, even if nothing else.  Not sure what's so hard to understand about that.

I'm not sure its fair to call everyone who doesn't like the game "burned out on MMOs" though.  We'll have to see if the same people are just as bored by the next few MMOs too.  If I'm just as critical of TSW, Tera, and GW2.. ok yeah, I'll admit that it's time to give up on the genre - but not just because I'm bored of this one.

Just to clear it up.... Im not upset about getting bored.. it happens. I spend money on movies that happen to be bad.. or like to try a new dish at a restaurant and happen to not like it..

I'm not fuming. Just expressing. o0oooo

  • UhwopUhwop Member UncommonPosts: 1,791

I don't understand this trend I'm seeing lately.

If someone says they don't like a new MMO, it's nothing to do with the MMO, it's becaue you're burned out.  Most of the responces to the OP were people telling the OP he's burned out.  It's not just with ToR, it's the same thing I've been reading in pretty much every game forum here.  It's not the game, it's the individual at fault; the game itself is perfectly fine, and if you don't enjoy it then you're burnt out and should stop playing MMO's.

Someone being bored with the game doesn't mean the game is boring either, it just means that it wasn't for them.

Expressing an opinion on a forum is hardly insight into someones personal state of being.

The great thing about being an individual is that your tastes can only be influenced by the masses to such an extent that you may try something, but never can the masses dictate what you will like.

Quit acting like a bunch of armchair psychatrists and take a forum post for what a froum post is.  An individuals expressing thier opinion.  He found the game boring, nothing more and nothing less.  The sky isn't falling, you don't have to cover anything up by repeating the same tired excuse that he's just burned out.

I think baseball is pretty boring, it doesn't make the sport any less popular.

  • pharazonicpharazonic Member Posts: 860

These forums are a source of endless amusement and life skills to me.

I love how the latest defense of the game is, "Well it sucks to you because you didn't have interest in it to begin with. The game is great!"

"The game is missing basic features because BioWare designed it to miss said features! It's part of the design! Deal with it! BW rocks!"

I'm going to employ these arguments next time someone criticises me. "Hey Pharazonic, I don't like how this dish tastes!" Oh that's okay.. you weren't interested in it to begin with. So it's okay you don't like it. I don't care that you don't like it!

    --

On a serious note, sorry to hear that OP.  I think many people playing currently are in your shoes. The western MMO market is so starved for polished AAA releases that when such a title debuts, most of us are like bees to a honey pot. Beggars can't be choosers after all, right.

"Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

I need to take this advice more.
