I can't wait... Literally

clbembryclbembry Member Posts: 94

This game needs to come out right this instant, as I cannot wait any longer. I have a feeling it won't be released for a good 5+ months and by then... well who knows what could happen between now and then. So if you happen to be someone that's develping GW2 and you're reading this post, release the game now finished or not.

Thankyou and goodbye.

If someone that is developing GW2 is reading this thread - get back to work!

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

3 months closed beta (started now) + 3 months open beta + end of 6 month SWTOR's subscription = GW2 launching in june 2012

Who in their right mind would make an open beta last 3 months? That's absurd.

    Ding 400 posts!

You're right mate, too long for open :-(

Still I'll stand by my theory of june/july, after the end of the initial 6 months of SWTOR sub and before kung-fu pandas and just at the beginning of summer holidays. I can foresee in my crystal ball two other launch windows : september (people return to their computers) or... Christmas (but the world ends before that).

ANet's feeling about open betas is that they don't want them to be long and extensive.  An example in one dev's comment on a forum used a phrase found directly on the site's faq: " We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it. "  In other words, they don't want the players experience with the game ruined by participating in an unfinished product.  They test their games extensively internally and in closed betas to get them as polished as possible.  I'm not going to go searching for quotes, but I believe what has been said is that open beta will be short and close to release.  Essentially stress tests.  If they announce dates in a manner which they have in the past then we'll probably be given any dates for open beta at roughly the same time they announce launch day.  That is to say, they'll be confident that their product is "finished" before either event is announced.

You can always head over to the SWTOR board and vent your frustration on innocent Swto... *gets clubbed from behind and dragged away*

I thought they said the three books would be out first and the third book is not due until the summer of 2012.

I for one am glad to see my girlfriend interested in a MMO again.

Mostly I think it's due to the awesome setting. She's already been planning her outfits for her human based on youtube vids we've seen.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

More like they don't want you to run through the limited content and then not buy the game.......

Doesn't look like that hurt rift or tor, GW2 should be fine.

I did participate in a couple of the open beta weekends ANet had for Guild Wars 1 with a few of my Shadowbane guildies at the time.

I'd love to get a closed beta invite, but I think a limited and focused open beta or two will be in store for us. Just based on their con set-up. Usually it's a comparable model for the larger testings down the road.

    No.

1-2 week closed beta +  ~ 2month adjustments + 1 month MAX open beta + SWTOR doesn't have anything to do with it + final adjustments before release = sometime in spring.

PAX East in April 2012 seems like a good place to me to have something like open beta/release date announced. :P

But then again this is Arenanet, so they may take a longer time with the closed beta. *shrugs*

June 2012 is far too long of a wait for several key reasons in my life... yes i'm being selfish but IDC.

it's been in dev for far too long, with the announcement of the final prof and the amount of combing over that it's gotten  already from testers and live demos... this was never done with original guild wars so i don't get why the beta periods need to be so long.

the winter will be over, and unfortunately the best down time for me is the between late march and the end of may when the ice is too thin to fish on / fishing season is closed... by the time june rolls around all the ice is gone and i'll be fishing again!

so, as a casual gamer i hate a summer release... it completely sucks.

for others it might be great, but i get the feeling most of us think that another 6 months of waiting also is not desired.

Even gw2 would be ready in june they wont release it, why would they release game during summer? atleast I dont want it will be release then.. too foreveralone when sun is shining and 25+ celcius :)

    that.

A summer release wouldn't be good. Winter would be for the best, honeslty

I for one am tired of big game releases in the winter, particularly November/December. Releasing in the summer would be a breath of fresh air. But then I'm bias since I have by far more free time to play then. ; )

Well, if ArenaNet stick to their word (release 'when it's ready') then it likely isn't planned and could be at any time. After all, we don't exactly know how polished the game is as a whole; only the small demos they've shown.

As usual optimists find an early release date posible. But I think there is alot pointing at summer at the earliest

    1) they havent even begun marketing the game! (ArenaNet statement)

    2) it does first hit the 5 years development mark this summer. (and internal plan shorter than 5 years on AAA mmo today is hard to belive)

    3) its an very ambitious projekt wanting not only to make the best MMORPG ever, but the best game ever.

    4) its open beta tests (pluralis) in FAQ.

    5) they have pointed out alot of times that betas will be followed by a phase where the feedback is evaluated and used for deciding when and how to take next step.

(5+4 does not point at a short 1-2 weeks open beta folowed by an intermidiate release).

    6) there have been and so far looks like there still is alot of iterating going on- a block post 1 month ago explaning why they still do it, does not point at they are done with that.

and so on... as usual when I take the sceptic role in this, i would love to be wrong ;)

I'm leaning more towards Q3 2012 at the earliest than Q2 really. Especially the NCSoft policy of 'no marketing until 6 months before release' leads me to believe that the game just won't be ready for a spring release. Small closed beta according to Anet is not the closed beta from other developers. For some other devs closed beta is like open beta but with character wipes, open beta is free trial. Once you get there you don't need much time.

The small closed beta points to a lot of areas still needing a lot of work. They do not want to let hordes of eager fans loose in an unfinished game.

You can wait, and you WILL wait. now go play Skyrim and let the developers release a game thats not buggy and rushed out the door because of stupid fans demanding it now irregardless of what state its in.

We have come to realize that the open beta will be more of a demo then anything, showing off the game and really just stress testing. They will try to get a very large amount of bugs out during closed and take care of all the balancing.  I really believe them when they say they are just as excited, if not more for us to be able to play. They want to make sure it is the best possible product at release. I for one, am glad that a company like this exists in the mmo world :)
