At first this game didn't interest me, but i'm hungry for a new MMO to try and love the old star wars setting. I don't much care for the heavy instancing and the linear feel to the game(from what ive heard, still downloading the game) but i'm gonna try to look at it as more of a single player game with online elements(kind of like Diablo 3 which I am dying to play).
One question I have: Are there roleplaying servers? if not is there an unofficial RP server?
Comments
there are both rp-pve and rp-pvp servers
Don't listen to the hate machine about it being a single player game. They are sorely mistaken. The game is every bit as much of an mmo as every other themepark mmo. It's isn't "heavily instanced" either.
These statements are a gross misrepresentation of what this game is about. Try it for yourself and see what you think, but it is anything but a single player game.

Ya, i'm patching now, so hopefully sometime late tonight I can get in and see what its like!
And be sure to keep in mind that the reason there are so few people on these forusm praising the game, besides the general collection of trolls, is that the 95% or so people who enjoy the game are playing. I am only here because I have a cake in the oven.
I'm sitting in a 10 minute or so queue right now. I wish the game would let me pull up these forums while I waited without alt+tabbing.

oh dont forget that everyone claims that none of the npcs move and you're basically staring at statues.
thats another misconception about the game. Kaas is the most vibrant city in any MMO that I've seen. Unless theres another mmo out there that has put every single npcs and mob on a daily "honey do" path i dont know of
those are the gripes you'll hear from most folks but you wont see antyhing to counter this in the mmo realm. honestl its about as alive and vibrant as you would expect from an mmo.
If you went by the haters on this site , every game sucks and is not worth the "greatness" that was pre-WOW era. To me, that era was boring as hell and I don't miss those games one bit. The last game I remember being hyped here by the hardcore "vets" was Darkfall and that was the most bug filled piece of crap I have ever experienced next to SWG. Best bet is to just research the game yourself and make your own judgement.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
this.
although i do miss EQ sometimes, mainly miss a lot of friends i made in that game.
the new mmo's will never touch the communities those games before wow had, before mmo's started to become mainstream.
i am only here because i am in queue lol
they will get that worked out though either way, not worried about it at all.
Interesting enough, I've grouped more in the last few days than I have in lotro in a solid month.
The heroic quests and flashpoints really help promote grouping.

I can find the good in any MMO even if I dont play it. I watched a video of the Jedi Consular on youtube and it made me kind of excited. Rift was largely a bust for me and I need a break from WoW, so hopefully this gives me the experience i'm looking for.
I do like how the weapons make contact =D how does that work in fights that don't involve lightsaber vs lightsaber?
I wasn't too impressed with the game at first. Then I actually played it and realised it's the best theme park MMO in existance.
if its melee vs melee (ie. lightsaber vs vibroblade) the choregraphed combat can work. however if you are attacking a ranged unit, that unit wont block with his gun. sometimes in pve the ranged units will change to melee but not all of them do that.
I believe there is at least one saber block animation when you get a deflection/parry from a ranged adversary. The only reason I spotted this is because I liberally use the riposte ability when I'm on my Jedi Sentinel and watch for it.
