So before everyone is jumping on the "we need a local version bandwagon" read the whole thread!
XLG is developing such a giant project so I think its safe to say they could afford some compilers and really thats all we need. Just bring us the game the way it is in korea only with different language pack, maybe at first only in english and after some time add things localizations for german, french and swedes.
The problem with western publishers will be, they would do their best ruining the game. Best example being Frogster and the way they are handeling Tera, or Aion after "NCsoft West" has been founded, the original team was way better. I think developers should stick to their goals and know their audience in advance, so lets note: just assume AA s audience are people, that love asian MMOGS more than western versions, so whats the point of changing the game? Nothing! they would only risk losing western customers looking for something different than the same ol, same ol.
Another advantage would be the full control for XLG and paying for just compilers is way cheaper.
Thoughts?

I'm not really sure where there should be a western publisher or not. The only thing I can be sure though, is that even if we get a Western publisher Jake Song will not let to change much. Because in his first interviews he clearly stated that the key-market and their main goal is West... so I doubt if he will leave ArcheAge at the hands of narrow-minded people.
Ryzom, Haven and Hearth, Xsyon, The Repopulation, UO private shards, Mortal Online, Darkfall 1 remakes (New Dawn or Rise of Agon), RPG MO, Project Gorgon, EQ: Sanctuary (custom server)
I would rather play the game in its original state from the original dev/pub. No need for western publisher I agree.
I'd be happy with a Google translate and that's it.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
Every game has a story, and the problem is straight translation makes for some very weird sentences. I don't know how many times I have tried out some f2p Asian game that had a quest read something like this "pet your rock in the mountain" or a skill called "sense your angush on the run".
The bottom line is Eastern games need western translation or else its gonna come off sounding like a cheap f2p game.

There is a chance they sit back on it and just make XLGames NA.
They have got a 15 million advance from GigaMedia. They got 50-60 million from the licensing fees to China. They have the luxury of sitting back and waiting for the Korean revenue to come in. Hopefully they will have choices moving forward and won't have to be forced into an agreement like most cash-strapped western developers are.
Normaly for a game like this you would think NCSoft would be the first choice to publish it but since it's Jake Song, the chances like that are slim to none. I think XLgames will be the better for it in the long run if they don't have to answer to anyone but themselves as far as what goes in their game.
The odds are pretty good that EnMasse will get the NA publishing rights. EmE has stated that there nitch will be publishing eastern games for the west.

Will a KSSN be required to play when it releases there?
My theme song.
lol, i so know what you mean
This may be a silly question, but here it goes. Does WoW have an Eastern publisher, or is everything done by Blizzard worldwide ? If everything is handled by Blizzard, who's to say XL can't do the same worldwide ?
To be fair its Ncsofts WEST team, which crapped Aion by changing the western version from the original. I really don't know how it works for Blizzard in Korea, though I know they have a hired company for localization but don't think a publisher.
I really hope XGL is doing the same here, its better if you only have yourself to answer instead of a greedy, shareholderdriven publisher.
Baggs is a KSSN still needed to join the beta?

i realy hope that XLG keep 100% of this game in house. the westeren publishers will pick and pick till theres nothing left. would end up being a shell of the game it should be. i hope XLG publishes this game here themselfs.
There's nothing saying they couldn't. Just pay a team of translators and hire a small crew to go through and redo or subtitle the VO work.

Since when swedish players need a translation? They don't even dub movies there, and most of their population speaks english quite well. I doubt they care about a translation.
Only the french would really need a translation, since even their own minister of education admitted in public that the overall level of the population in engrish is quite weak.
Well I think they do care who wouldn't want having a game in their native language?
I really hope XGL is sticking to their goal and publishing the game here, please don't let greedy and crappy publishers touch this game.

IIRC didn't XL games and take-two do a project at some point/talk in the past? They'd probably be really good for that job if they got it, they're very competent.
I'm not a fan of infinite grind with swords twice the size of said body. Hopefully it will be a plausable yet beautiful game.
XL games and Take-Two Interactive have agreed on a contract for XL games to make Civilization MMO.
But for the thread topic: I don't see there's much stuff needed to be changed for western market, good translation for the quests, voice-overs... It's clearly done with the western public in mind.
Tera, on another hand, is in some troubles with launch on the western market - MAYBE because they had to deal with the issues of Elin race, or with the end-game content... Quite a different situation imo.
NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
I don't give a flying f*ck who's gonna publish it in the west, just let me play!
