I rarely ever post on forums, but I felt the need to let the developers know if they read these forums at all how much I'm looking forward to this game. I really like Star Wars too and I'm playing it now but I have to say that the class system just sucks.
None of these companies have learnt anything from the past, it's just another case of I'm a DPS and it's nigh impossible to get a group at higher levels. I just want to play what I have fun playing and be able to paly with others. Is that so much to ask for? I've played healer for so many years but in SWTOR the only class I found half interesting was Bounty Hunter DPS yet I have like 5 flash points sitting in my log that I havent been able to find a group for in 2 days.
Anyway this might come accross like a rant, but it's not. I'll be dropping the game as soon as GW2 comes out anyway but I just wanted to state how right I think the GW2 system is. Finally I'll be able to play what I'm comfortable with and still advance and have fun with others.
Now hurry up and release it please take my money, toes what ever it is you need just give me GW2

Glad to see you appreciate the strives ArenaNet is taking, in attempting to abolish the Holy Trinity of MMO class design. However I'd rather they take their time, polishing the game, to get it right.
I dont think their the first ones to try it, however I think they may be the only publisher to get it right, or not have a botched release. The Chronicles of Spellborn had it pretty good but had a horrid release, Final Fantasy XIV was just badly made to begin with, but had some weapon based and skill based set ups with similar skill bars. I think this is the direction the anti Holy Trinity themepark is going. OR offering a third Paradigm option instead of Holy Trinity gear grind or Sandbox open skill system.
It's very interesting to compare the (early) design of XIV and GW2, they both pretty much identified the same problems with the current staple-MMO design, but took very different approaches to solve them. In the case of XIV, almost none of their solutions turned out to work as intended, so now it's getting rolled back towards the established formula. From what we have seen at the trade shows, Arenanet seems to be on a much better course.
What can you tell about TSW ?
The trinity system was a simple idea for Meridian 59 that has been overused in too many MMOs.
I do work but it really makes you dependent on having certain classes, and combat is not very flexible.
I am not sure if GW2s mechaince will be so perfect but it is really something that should have been made many years ago.
The problem of course is that it is a lot easier in a trinity game if you have a friend that sucks but still want to play with you, you can use him as DPS and it is not that hard for the rest of the group to cover for him.
In a system like GW2 you will have to change roles several times in the middle of combat and that will take some skills.
Same here.
I cant wait to get my hands on GW2. Im so tired of the wowish system (i mean raid or leave & trinity)
Ill be entretained playing swtor & Skyrim untill then....
on one hand, yes you can solo as a DPS or Tank without a healer being in the game.
but that means SOLO so why would you still care to play a game that calls itself an MMO, when there is just you in a party?
and yes i know how GW1 played even with the monk class, id usually go for heroes or roll a monk myself, instead of taking live players.
tho i do tend to roll the GW ranger or necro. last year ive found great interest in healing/support classes throughout online games. so i am to see what will happen.
im just unhappy about the change from:
Monk, Dervish, Paragon, Ritualist, Assassin.
to:
Guardian, Thief and Engineer
yes i know expansions will come and add to the glory, but nonetheless i much enjoyed the monk and dervish.
hoping they will either redo the factions and nightfall expansions or emerge with two (or more) new areas (and perhaps professions)
I will play the game, but im uncertain if a game without a full heal/support class suits my current needs in MMO's, tho it might be a very old skool class it is the main class that keeps parties and thus the MMO in tact.
Overal i still insist that games invest more in classLESS ideas. Im fond of playing a game the way i intend to play it, not the way the makers think i want to/should play it.
The idea of : you are a warrior, and thus you cannot cast magic or are to dumb to wield a bow, is absurd and ancient. it disables us to play a game the way we want to and limits us in creativity, expierence and uniqueness.
STOOPID
When someone does something so utterly moronic that it kills your brain cells at the very thought of it.
The big difference will be that while there is no dedicated healer, the whole party while have to cycle who is healing and also keep a eye closer on their own HP bar so they know when to get that self heal.
Warriors will actually be excellent with bows in GW2, but I do agree that classless games have their advantages.
The problem with that however iws balance. You would have to get a value for everything in the game and let players buy their own template with points to get a well working class less system and so far have only a few pen and paper RPGs pulled that off.
The alternative is doing what pathfinder does and allow you to change out the class features for alternate versions. For an example are druid usually a pet class in the game, but you can play without it and get others bonuses instead of it. It is still a P&P though, a MMO like it would be a nightmare to balance if you have any kind of PvP in it.
Yes combat system is the key core to the game imo. We will see. Otherness is still amazing too but,...

I think having to switch between different weapons in my class to help out my group will provide me with a lot more fun than what I'm having to do now. Atleast I will be switching between skills in a class I enjoy playing and I'll be able to socialize and have fun and not to mention it will keep me on my toes, all sorts of things can go wrong with a system like this and you have to be awake or die where as with the current system you know your rotation, you know how much damage you can do and the only random thing in there is a resist, well it's a very predictable system that has gone beyond borring after so many years.
Dont get me wrong I do enjoy my bounty hunter, but really my rotation is almost always the same, CC / Attack throw occasional heal if some one is in trouble.
The way I see it in GW2 I will have to be on my toes, switching weapons, blocking for my team mate while he heals up, CC'ing dodging incomming spells, looking out for elemental magic I can make use of to increase my damage etc. It reminds me so much of Asherons call and to date that was the most combat fun I have had in any game and the skills werent even diverse! Still though you needed to use the right elements etc. to do the most dps and so on.
Honestly I would have never even picked up SWTO were it not for the fact that I love star wars and the only thing keeping me in game right now is the story, the combat im already extreemly bored of at level 25 now and dont even know if I will make it to 50 even with the story, it's mind numbing borring. The first few days were fun as usual but there is no randomness, no dodging no thinking required, honestly most of the time I play with just 1 hand lol, I have a ciggy in my other hand and just use 1 finger to hit skills lol. The only time I wake up is when Im getting or handing in a quest.
I also love PVP alot but thats lacking too , the only people that get votes for instance are healers, so GW2 is my only hope now unless turbine ever get off their behinds and decide to bring asherons call back again with updated graphics etc, god I love that game played it for so long would have never left but all my friends left so I got bored.
