Hi, I havent played so many MMORPGs because i spent alot of time in 2 which are FFXI and WoW. From what I've experienced I liked both of those games in different ways, and I enjoyed FFXI unlike many others because I understood Japanese. Im getting bored of WoW and I'm scanning for a new MMORPG but I cant really find one so interesting and big like it was when wow and EQ2 were coming out.
What I'm looking for is basically:
Are there any new games like this out there or look like one coming out soon? thanks.

Look for the upcoming D&D Online later this year.
Besides that, If you haven't tried DAoC, you might try that too as it has a 14 day free trial.
Hmmm.
Newer games that you might try that I feel are quality games as well are Saga Of Ryzom and Guild Wars, Saga of Ryzom being by far the more hardcore and superior game as far as a long term mmo game.
Hope that helps.
Most importantly with whatever your next game choice is, remember to have FUN!

You want a game where you have to group to level... DEFINATLY ASHERONS CALL 2. Takes a long time to get to max level... That all depends on how many hours a day u devote to ur pc... Eq2 takes awhile thought its a decent grouping game but they nerf the maps so much its hard to keep up with good hunting spots.

Hmm, you should try Everquest II, but only if you computer can handle it. Also, there is Dark age of Camelot, and Star Wars Galaxies.
Uhh, if you are willing to try it then possibly Everquest. Leveling takes a long time to do, grouping is pretty much necessary, you mostly grind, and thus, don't do that many quests, however, the game is fairly old.
You MAY like Eve Online, but that is a big MAY.
From what the OP said, i can recommend Final fantasy 11 as a fitting most of the reqs, tho be ready for a very competitive community.
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
He's already played FF 11. DAoC is really cool but is older so there are higher levels running around. That said, the new classic servers they opened have people rerolling so strike while the iron is hot.
Eq2 fits some of your requirements. It's easier to level in groups, it takes awhile to hit the cap and imo it's a solid game. I have to say though it's rough on the old PC if you've got an older one. Which brings up a good point, if you have an older PC I'd say go with DAoC.
If you want a different type of MMORPG and a unforgettable community, try Medievia.
Medievia is a multiplayer online text based role-playing game that has been in development since 1991. Medievia is a free virtual environment that offers imaginative game play and an environment so compelling hundreds of its users have continued to log in and play daily for five or more years. Imagine a game that has the intuition to track your happiness, pride, sadness, and fear, and then changes the game to fit your needs. Imagine a world in which intelligent monsters from afar bring chaos and evil to the world you know. Imagine a multi-player realm in which you can join together with friends and clan members to battle against other player groups in real-time quests. Imagine an online community where the relationships you form with your fellow adventurers are so strong you will remember them for a lifetime. Medievia V offers its players not only excellent game play with its Dungeon Master, Mob Factions, Dragon Lairs, Clan Ships, Bloodlines, Master Heroes and Naval Battles, but it also offers a unique social environment in which to create and sustain strong and lasting friendships.

You people arent listening he clearly stated he didnt want an OLD game where people have been playing it since the stone age. He's asking for a newer game with the qualities he stated. As far as that goes, I would suggest you wait a bit. Looks to be several games coming out later this year that might fit your criteria.
eve online
EQ2
SWG

Don't click here...no2
Erm...
Hmm....
SWG has been out a while but there are lots of people that aren't done with their templates. You definitely do better in a group than solo but it doesn't really meet your requirement of taking "years" to reach 'max level'.
Primarily because it's skill based rather than level based. There are 'combat levels' which are based upon what combat skills you have but they only really tell you what nasties you can handle and give you damage bonuses against stuff that's supposed to be easier and penalties against stuff that's supposed to be harder. They are meaningless in PVP.... JEDI takes a very long time to get and to reach a maxed out skillset but standard professions don't take more than a couple months unless you are playing around with your template to find 'the perfect fit'. It took me almost a year before I was really happy with my BH template LOL, what can I say, I like to tinker.
Hmm....
EQ2 is probably the best fit for what you're looking for right now. Unless you are planning to play 4-5 hours a day it will take a good chunk of time to reach max level and there are lots of lower level folks still running around. Grouping is DEFINITELY better than Solo but you can solo just fine if you don't have time for a group activity. There are lots of quests but only 3 are required to level (profession quests where you choose your next specialty in your chosen field)
DAOC is a good choice but everyone in that one is max level already...
Horizons might be good but the problem there is lack of players... it's pretty empty.
Lineage II fits your bill as well and from what I've read and heard it's much improved over what it was at release. Probably a lot of maxed folks though, someone who currently plays can probably tell you more.
My best recommendation would be EQ2
Possibly one of the others I mentioned.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.
