As you can see by my join date, I've been here for a while. Had some damn good discussions, and enjoyed reading posts by some very good people.
I've seen the site change over the years, sometimes for the better....more often for the worse.
And it is in that vein that I say goodbye to you all now. I've discovered that I no longer enjoy MMORPG.com.
The overwealming number of people and accounts who are here for the sole purpose of disrupting threads (and attempting to spread negative propaganda about games they have no interest in playing) makes it pretty much impossible to do what I used to actually come here to do: discuss a game with other people who play it.
Therefore the site no longer serves it's purpose for me, and only causes me to be frustrated with how far this place has fallen.
And so I realised that there is really no reason for me to come here if I don't enjoy the content of the site anymore.
You guys can have your Troll Bridge, and your petty, bitter bickering. You can all argue until your hands fall off that every game that is not SWG2 / EVE2 / Ultima3d is just another WoW. And that even if SWG2 / EVE2 / Ultima3d were made, no one would play them.
You can tell each other how wrong you are for enjoying these games....that you are wasting your money playing them.....while having nothing to play yourselves.
I won't be here to see it. This is my final post, and when I get home from work today I will be deleting this account.
I will be playing and enjoying MMORPG games, whis is what this site USED to be about.
Edit: I don't usually post "goodbye" threads....I usually just quietly leave. But when you have been a part of something for this long, I think one deserves a final post.

I find plenty of good discussions. I participate in the good ones, and ignore the bad ones. I block the trolls, the troll posts, and the people who bait or use insults. This leaves me in a position to have good conversations with whoever is remaining, and I do just that. I don't let it bother me that there are people who do the things you describe: trolling, insulting, etc. I ignore them and move on. There are plenty of other people on this site worth conversing with. If you can't sift through the the waves to find grains of intelligent and good conversation, then all I can suggest is that you work on your skill at hitting the block button. Eliminate the bad posters and you're left with the good ones.
This actually is relevant to every web forums : someone comes and says negative, hateful, biased, silly things without any sort of argumentation or facts. As long as he is not trolling or attacking other forum dwellers, he'll always get away with it and you can't downvote or gray out his comment here. So he'll hijack or spoil the thread. If you say he should shut up for his blatant ignorance and even back up your opinion with verifiable facts you are the one getting banned.
That's why mmorpg.com is such a great place to whine and bitch and have forum pvp and is failing in providing a clean environment for discussion with mature people. Still you can find interesting people with interesting ideas and experiences on mmorpg's.
But as long as you won't have a "qualitative" moderation this place will get worse (as it is becoming more popular and attracting a lot of new mmo's players judging by the number of created accounts).
Sooo.... bye i guess.... *waves*
This have been a good conversation
Wait, why not just ignore the post or block the poster instead of replying? I don't understand how a thread can be hijacked if you just ignore it. A thread can't be spoiled either. Just ignore or block the post that bothers you. Do that and you have created your own clean environment. Replying to trolls is what enables the so called hijacking to occur in the first place.
Blocking really does wonders. Usually on most forums I don't bother but here on MMORPG I have several people blocked.
The other thing to point out is wait a month or so - everything will calm down in the released games forums as the masses move to polluting the soon to be released games forums.

You see the solution on an individual level. If someone derails a thread or posts his dislike in a ignorant manner it creates a lot of "noise" because a lot of people will reply to his post (*I* never feed the trolls). So you could have 100 (optimistic number) people unhappy with him and blocking him. And then with 1.500.000 accounts anyone can just restart on another thread and you'll have another 100 people blocking. Not really a good system.
Maybe the solution is to impose "qualitative" posts by moderators (but then redefine the forum rules) so that 100 people don't have to block him themselves. It's a time saving solution. Or you can have self-moderation to downvote so that comments are grayed out and/or you have to click on them to show them and you could save time opening a new thread because others already filtered the filth out for you. Though some good posts can be downvoted by fanbois, saw that on other forums, but they'll still be available.
Can i haz yous stuffz?
Well, the reason I'm not a fan of that type of moderation is because opinions can vastly differ as whether a particular post meets the qualitative requirements. Do you really think that it happens or would ever happen that someone would make a bunch of accounts just so that the people who blocked their first account would have to see the posts under their new account? I just can't imagine that happening very often. Sure it might happen a handful of times but that would be a rare occurence.
I think blocking is the best system...since I don't want a moderator or another poster deciding for me whether a post meets some kind of qualitative minimum. It's true that under your system, time would be "saved" for the people who were going to block the troll; but on the other hand, there might be a whole bunch of people who actually wanted to read the "troll's" post, and might not even think the person is a troll. So I'm not persuaded by the argument that time is saved since plenty of people don't want that time saved or that person blocked.
The uprating and downrating system is a good idea, making some posts greyed out and minimized if the post is down rated a bunch by others. This is only a good idea though if the forum has options for turning the auto minimize off, and/or the option to change the number of down rates it takes before a post is auto minimized.
Either way, it is almost always better for each individual to decide for him or herself whether a poster is worth blocking than for one moderator to decide for everyone.
{mod edit} I agree with you man and whats sad is your point is proven almost every 5 minutes. I liked it better when we didnt have 11 year olds.
All I hear is *flounce*. If you hate this place just quit, don't make a dramatic whiny goodbye thread.
I honestly dont think its MMORPG.com thats degraded, its mmo forums in general.
Theres just to many 12 year old casuals being drawn into mmo's that voice their opinion in extremely immature ways.
I'm not saying all young people are bad, just most of them ruining it for the others.
yea mmo community has only gotten worse over the years, and it will still decline. the sad part is that it not only happend on forums like these, but in the mmos themselves. you arent going to escape just by leaving the forums. you will still encounter it in game. really no point in leaving the forums.
look on the bright side, i used to consider the mmorpg community to be the worst on the entire internet, then i played a game called league of legends.
now as you leave, atleast you know theres STILL worse.
And what might be the casue of that I wonder? Not taking a dig at you, just food for thought.
instead of coming in here talking shit why not avoid this thread altogether?
I can see leaving the forums if you're not having fun, but this part I don't understand, deleting this account, really, for what purpose.
Reminds me of folks that quit WOW and deleted their characters, what were they trying to accomplish, prevent temptation to themselves I guess.
But as the admins on WOW will tell you, (and it even happened here at MMORPG.com once for sure) sometimes people have a change of heart down the road and want to come back and ask to be restored.
So save yourself some trouble, just leave the account dormant and call it a day, otherwise all the posts you ever put on these forums will fall under the category of "deleted user" as if you never existed.
As you said, you had a good run..... no reason to go out in anominity.

No, you are talking shit.
Either way, couldn't agree more with the OP - haven't even been here that long but this place is so negative it's not even worth it anymore. Think I'll join you.
This site is prime example of the Internet Total F*ckwad Theory if I've ever seen it. Look it up wif you don't know what I'm talking about.
The OP may be making whines like a wolf-puppy in the pack but sometimes it's good to hear a little whining. Everyone acts so tough on the internet it's good to hear a little variety from time to time. Trolling can get to anybody. Anyways.
I have had the same feelings about trolls but I learned to just never take information on the internet seriously ever again.
Blocking posters may be a good idea for someone who is very frustrated for a short time like I was at one point. I learned that, hey, it's a forum. I don't have to reply to every single thread. If someone questions my intelligence or integrity for example, I don't HAVE to reply and no one else HAS to EXPECT me to, either. In fact, the worth of a poster has little to do with the forum discussion. The only thing that matters is that the forum exists so that discussion can be made. It isn't a contest.
If something makes you feel negative try to find something positive that you want to reply to. Just because someone posted something false isn't the end of the world (again, the forum exists so that false information CAN be posted). People can and will think for theirselves.
You do need to be able to govern yourselves to some extent. At least if you live in America or believe in freedom to some extent you should. Having big government control everything can make life pretty awful. So getting the forum mods is not always necessary or desirable.
I can understand you, OP. Especially in the days since SWTOR release, there is SO much hyperbole and flaming, I find the forums QUITE useless these days. I really wish people would stop bahving like little children. I get some infos here, so I will stay, but I felt I did not want to say anything to most debates anymore.
Sometimes I wonder, why go to a place with so much hate? But then I can take a holiday from here anytime.
I wish you well, OP; maybe you decide to stay lurker or just take a long holiday from here too. Whatever the case, be well.
