Your Top 5 Ridiculous Statements About GW2

KonyakKonyak Member Posts: 156

Let's have some fun huh?

Ever since Guild Wars 2 started releasing information back in 2009, there's been all kinds of speculation. From fans of the original episodic series to people who don't play MMOs, everyone's been interested in it. Even the people who come on this forum to troll are interested. Nobody trolls something that's uninteresting. Simple as that.

Anyway, so what are the most ridiculous statement you've heard about GW2 since ArenaNet started releasing steady information?

5. It's Like An FPS! - This is actually half of a relevant argument. Yes, GW2 features more of twitched based gameplay. Considering I played not only GW2(obviously a demo) but Halo and Battlefield as well, it does NOT go into that territory. The game features just as much strategy as the first game. So yes, it does feature FPS elements, especially in the competitive PvP mode but it's absolutely an MMO all the way around.

4. It Has Grind! - Yes. It does. But not in the sense you're thinking of. It only has grind from an optional stand point. Otherwise known as achievements which are very similar to the GW1 titles. It's strictly for the players who like to go for achievements in just about anything(ex. Xbox live, steam, etc.). Not only that but it doesn't reward you with anything to make you more powerful.

3. It's Not Innovative! - Cali could honestly take this one. Fact of the matter is, GW2 is an innovative game. What I see the most from people who try to knock on this game is an argument that's quite hilarious from an intelligent person's point of view:

"It just takes everything MMOs have done and mashes it together!"

There's a problem with that kind of thinking. People actually give this reason on why they won't play GW2. That statement is just a simplification of any MMO game ever released. I could say that about WoW. I could say that about Rift. I could say that about TOR. Damn, I could say that about Runescape if I wanted to. But it doesn't create a relevant argument. The people that say something like that are only looking for a reason to hate the game. Yes, you go play any MMO and act like that statement doesn't apply to the game you play in its most simplest form.

2. It's Not An MMO! - Remember when ArenaNet announced in their manifesto video that GW2 would feature a persistent world? What happened afterward? Skepticism. Really guys? Really? Was it that hard to believe that GW2 would be what they said it would be? An actual MMO? Especially since they never called GW1 an MMO in the first place. I look back on this and it makes me realize how much of a disappointment some of the MMO community really are.

1. It's Going To Be Pay 2 Win! - I can't actually prove this right or wrong. I can only go by what ArenaNet has told us. But guess what? I actually have 100% faith in ArenaNet. So yes, I'm putting all my eggs into the basket. They're community friendly. They're smart. They're not money hungry. Most of all, they know what gamers want. I've played GW1 for 4-5 years. Not once have they pulled the rug out from under me. They've never lied. They've never done anything remotely bad. So when people say it's going to be Pay 2 Win, I actually take offense to it. Those people are insulting ArenaNet outright and pretty much calling them stupid. They're calling me stupid for being a fan of them for so long. It's that reason why ArenaNet is the one behind GW2 and not the community. They're a forward thinking developer whether anyone wants to accept it or not.

How about you guys?

    1) It's being made by NCsoft.

    2) It's an Asian grinder.

    3) It's instanced like GW1.

    4) It's a WoW clone.

    5) It has Anime graphics.

OK, I'll bite. The top 5 ridiculous comments I've frequently seen about Guild Wars 2 are:

    5. Dynamic Events are just public quests and will fail because of it.

    4. Guild Wars 2 is just vapourware.

    3. It's just another Asian Grindfest

    2. Guild Wars 2 has no Raids, which means it has no endgame.

    1. Guild Wars 2 isn't an MMO, because the original wasn't one.

Funny how often I see these last 2. image

    5) Guild Wars 2 has eliminated the trinity dynamic from MMORPG game play, as evidenced by the lack of healers.

    4) Despite the previous claim, the combat won't be random tank and spank because the NPC's will use intelligent AI to fight differently (translate better) than all MMORPG's that have come before it.

    3) Every class will be viable in every situation in the new combat model, with none being left out due to lesser utility.

    2) GW2 will be a terrific MMORPG because ANET did such a great job with GW1. (er..wait...)

    1) GW2 is the WOW Killer everyone has been waiting for

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to GW2 as much as the next person, because I'm really hoping they will shake up the traditional MMORPG model a bit but I'm realistic because all MMORPG's over promise and under deliver in my eyes and GW1 actually did not thrill me. (played about 2-3 months as I recall)

I dont like how GW2 fanboys go into other game forums (like that specific games forum) and post about how much better GW2 will be than that game. I'm sure it will be a great game but its not something I go to sleep dreaming about.

Who said GW2 will be the best game ever made? I doubt it would beat Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Anyway, so you're basically mad at people bragging and insulting other games right? Because let's be honest here, you're delusional if you think GW2 isn't innovative.

    5. Actually, there is a trinity. Just not a holy trinity. It's much more dynamic and not stagnant. Every class is capable of doing all three areas.

    4. Never seen that claim before.

    3. You think it's a ridiculous statement? It's more of a factual one.

    2. Are you saying ArenaNet didn't do a good job with GW1? Because they did. Or are you saying that it's irrelevant to how they make GW2? Which is also ridiculous considering you contradicted yourself after the list by saying "GW1 did not thrill me" as if it's relevant to why you think GW2 will under promise.

    1. I don't care about WoW or how well it does. People who make that statement annoy me as well.

I hate to derail this thread but I can't control myself in this case. Majora's Mask?! Really?! I hated that game so much. If you had said Ocarina of Time I might have agreed.

Majora's Mask is absolutely and utterly more sophisticated than Ocarina of Time. The story is better. The world is better. The characters are more memorable. The mechanics are more intricate. Everything about it is heads and shoulders above its predecessor.

    5) Sounds like omni-classing to me, been done before and its not something I found that fun, but perhaps this time it will be different, we'll see.

    4)  Well, people say the npc's will be more intelligent, i.e. will ignore the armor wielding warrior in front of them and go after the more squishy caster, but I'm not sure how much that is going to look like random behavior vs actual intelligence, but again, I've not seen it in action.

    3)  I'll believe it when I see it, until then no game has managed to make all classes viable, perhaps this will be the first. Oh yes, it isn't a fact until the game is released and we see it in action.

    2) I'm saying ANET didn't make an MMORPG with GW1 and I didn't enjoy the game that much, which has nothing to do with how good a game it is.  It is largely irrelevant to how GW 2 is being done as it will be their first true MMORPG. Of course GW1 not thrilling me is relevant, so far ANET does not have a track record of making MMORPG's that I enjoy playing, so I'm taking all this with a grain of salt.

    1)  Well, I think most everyone is pretty tired of looking for a WOW killer, and most of us are just looking for something new and fun that doesn't play largely like a standard theme park MMORPG.  As I mentioned, I think this title has the best shot of any in recent years, but you'll have to forgive me if I remain skeptical until I actually get to play it.  (no, I don't watch videos on the internet or pour endlessly through forums, this one here is pretty much it in that regard)

"It has no subscription fee, therefore it is automatically bad. In fact, they should announce a change in the payment model right now in order to save face." Obviously paraphrased but someone actually said something along these lines in a (now long locked) thread.

Not exactly five of them but OP took all the good ones.

"Rift did dynamic events first" is one I keep seeing a lot of.

    1. This game will kill Wow.

    2. It is impossible to make money without a monthly fee.

    3. Cures cancer (yeah, this one is likely a joke;).

    4. You can't make a MMO without raids.

    5. This game will suck because getting better loot all the time is the only way to keep players.
