DUST 514: Closed Beta Sign Ups Begin

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The EVE Online blog has been updated with a short notice that closed beta sign ups for DUST 514 are now being accepted. DUST 514 is a PlayStation exclusive.

That time is now.

It is with great joy that I can now officially announce that registration for DUST 514: Mordu’s Private Trials, our gated access beta test, has finally begun!

For now, registration is available exclusively to active subscribers of EVE Online who will join the pool of participants that we will be using to allow entry into early testing and special events for DUST 514. Registration for Mordu’s Private Trials does not guarantee entry, but as an active EVE subscriber, you are the first to have access to sign up for the closed beta.

We’re hugely excited to be able to extend this exclusive opportunity to our player community.

Log in to your EVE Online account to get started.

So the registration to Playstation exclusive game Beta is getting opened exclusively to PC exclusive game players?

    Oh, CCP...

So having your closed beta open to the people who are the most interested and likely to give you the best feedback is a bad thing.?

  • VorthanionVorthanion Member RarePosts: 2,749

Since when are PC gamers most interested in PS3 platform games?  I agree with Gdemami.  I think they should have opened it up to Silver and Gold PS3 members.

PC gamers are not the target audience, nor EVE players represent any recognized group of FPS players which is what Dust is going to be - FPS game.

I really wonder what you base your idea on that EVE players are 'the most interested' in FPS games and that they will provide 'best feedback' without any expected background of PS3 gaming.

I guess it is little, meaningless promotion, a bone to butthurt EVE players but still...a weird move.

My face lit up with excitement then I remembered it was a PS3 exclusive, hopefully they implement this properly with EVE! :)

I was actually going to buy a PS3 to play this, and then I took an arrow to the knee.

    Lawl.

But no, after they cancelled Incarna?  I lost all faith in this company.

Since some PC gamers have owned PS3s...that's when -_-

What's with this implied notion that there is no crossover between gaming PC owners and console owners? It's incredibly more common than one might think.

Also, this is just the first round of the beta for a game that doesn't release until next summer. There is plenty of time for a PS3 beta..

And lastly, there is no Silver and Gold PS3 members. There are only free and Plus members. Both can play online for free, but plus members get a bunch of free stuff like games, themes, and avatars. They also get discounts and a few other perks. Lastly, they usually also get first access to betas so assuming CCP decides to follow in the footsteps of other devs, Plus members will get in first for a while then the rest will be let in.

Oh yeah, I have an Eve account and I own a PS3 and I could not possibly be more excited for this game. Easily in my top 3 most anticipated games of next year.

Very interested in this. I've been playign Eve for about 6months now, love most stuff about it. I think Dust will either be really good, or really not good. Hope its really good.

    Vorthanion,

Think you are getting your platforms confused - xbox live has silver and gold levels  ! :)

A very niche number of gamers that cross platform.  Very odd to target them as the first rounders for beta for a PS3 exclusive, but if you really think this small audience matters, then by all means, keep believing.

Having you first core beta group made up of mostly PC tab target MMO players for a FPS PS3 game...interesting. I know their will be some overlap as I'm sure some Eve players are also FPS and PS3 players, but still this doesn't seem like a good idea.

Was gonna sign up for beta then when i log in it asked me to have a active sub with eve just to sign up.

It's not a very niche thing at all. Owning more than one console or owning a gaming PC and console has become increasingly common these past few years.

Now if you want to say very few Eve players are cross platform, then fine, I'd give you that, but to say very few gamers in general are cross platform? That's just being blind.

That said, those few do matter. DUST will affect Eve first and foremost and vice versa. And who better to give first access to than to the people it will, in theory, matter to the most? Also, it's a freaking beta. Meaning the game isn't even done yet. It's for collecting statistics and fixing bugs. The impression I get her is that people are subconciously replacing the word beta with demo.

With a beta, you start small and work your way up. CCP has just decided to start with their most loyal of fans first as a gesture of good will more than anything i assume. It's temporary. There is at least 6-8 months (assuming they're still aiming for summer) to give all PS3 players access. 6-8 freaking months. It doesn't matter who they start with to be honest.

I'm not following your logic here.

The ones that would sign up are the ones that have a console, specfically the PS3. Are you suggesting that there these people don't play games on their PS3 and just have the unit lying around, but all of a sudden they are going to fire it up for the sake of playing alpha/beta/whatever of an FPS on it?

Speaking of believing, can you link to your source for that? ;)

    You don't?

CCP could as well invite Reader's Digest members because some of them surely owns PS3 and some of those who own PS3 are also interested in FPS...

If you had data that showed that group also plays FPSs and likes the EVE IP, then that sounds like an excellent plan, GD!

So basically beta is going to be restricted to people who own a PC or Mac, are active subscribers AND own a PS3? I thought the entire point of Dust 514 being a PS3 exclusive was to try and expand the franchise into a new market. Only accepting applications from their subscribers seems like a bizarre move.

So you say that CCP has the data which of their customers own PS3 and are interested in FPS console game?

If not, by your own means it is not particularly excellent plan...
