Recently got skyrim. It really is a great improvement over Oblivion. Anyone else agree?

Hm... i really enjoyed oblivion much more than skyrim one main reason is that oblivion have more content "optional missions and so..." but dont get me wrong Skyrim is a great great game and its another magnificent elder scroll, still my personal opinion/preference goes there.

I enjoy Skyrim more. I'm not sure why, but in Oblivion, I had a serious issue progressing in Oblivion with a "hybrid class."

If I picked a pure, straight forward caster, warrior or thief, my skills were up to the challenge.

With a hybrid class, I wasn't good at any particular skill. They game seemed to scale beyond what I was capable of dealing with passed level 12.

Example: If I chose to cast magic and melee, my skills in those areas never got as high compared to just concentrating in one area. As a result, I was horrible at dealing out enough damage in combat to survive.

Maybe it was just my play style? But, I do not feel that way in Skyrim at all.

It's not about fighting, it's about balance. It's not about enlightenment, it's about balance. It's not about balance.

I haven't seen one person say Oblivion was better so... I have seen plenty say the world in Morrowind was better however.

    I never liked either.

I've played Skyrim now for 180 hours and have grown tired of it. After the 150 hour mark which is pretty damn good for a game, the world just seemed less fun and the generic nature of NPCS more apparent. The same bosses at the end of every dungeon and the obligatory chest, which coincidentally all look the same as if they were all made by the same carpenter (the chest business must have been booming for him)

Dragons are becoming more annoying. I have killed about 30+ already but now feel more like running out of combat range and do something else. The biggest and most interesting quest lines have been completed, leaving only the generic quests left, given by characters with little background story and little to make you care about completing their goal.

Overall the best purchase this year.

I have 80 hours in. 50 or 60 of them were spent with my first character as a Nord Dual Wield Warrior level 20 something until I beat the main quest. I still might go back and play him.

The rest are on my Vampire Breton Mage level 25. I also made an Orc Warrior and Khajiit Mage but those never got past level 2. I'm just fooling around at the moment doing things differently and I haven't spawned dragons. So the world is a lot more fun. Don't get me wrong I love the dragons on my first character but as the previous poster said the game can get annoying with them. I'll probably spawn dragons eventually when I'm ready (by advancing the main quest).

If I had the time I would play Skyrim 24/7 but at the rate I'm playing it, it sounds like I'm getting to enjoy Skyrim longer than people who hardcored it. So that's a good thing I guess. I also want to try making a rogue eventually or do something funny like play the game using only alteration or restoration magic. Lots of possibilities.

In Oblivion I hated dieing in the sun from vampirism. Just having your health, magic, and stamina not regen is nice since there are ways around that (Become an ArchMage and wear the 200% magicka regen stuff, vampire isn't really for warriors in skyrim). Graphics are so cool in Skyrim. Oblivion's was... ok. As was everything else in Oblivion other than the game world being very amazing and stuff but it wasn't as fun of an actual game to me. I guess the character system was a little more cooler and gave a point to actually sleeping which almost has no purpose in skyrim.

Another thing I just thought of is making a Speech type character. Just going around to each city by taking the stage coach rides and getting better at buying and selling until you can buy a house and then start hoarding all your things in there. Eventually you have everything and can pretty much do anything you want to at that point.

The province of Skyrim feels alot better than Oblivion's Cyrodill.  It feels like it has more character to it while Oblivion was sort of generic.  Skyrim doesn't ooze atmosphere like Morrowind did, but it's done quite well enough.

Charater building:  I was skeptical when initial news hit about how Bethesda made radical changes to how you build and develop your character.  The old stats like Str, Dex, End, etc. as well as the classes / custom class were done away for merely Magic, Health, Stamina.  A sort of Perks system replaced the skill systemm altogether, but individual skills are still gradually improved when used, esp. a successful use.  The system turned out alright so far.  I can't gripe about it much, but some of me still misses the older system.

I really do wish weather, esp. the extremes of Skyrim, as well as the freezing water, could adversely affect your character.  A reptile like Argonians shouldn't be too fond of the extreme cold out there image Nords and those fuzzball Khajit should love this stuff.

Skyrim is great. It's started a viral following even lol. Truely though, its going to be the game that kids will remember. Oblivion was the new morrowind for those that had played, and it did pick up a lot more along the way but the market was already changing. Skyrim just adapted to that market change, and compromised quite well to still retain the Elder Scrolls expectations. I used Morrowind as my measuring stick for both Oblivion and Skyrim. Now they only have to beat Skyrim.

I share the same sentiments, especially the dungeons. They're by far better than Oblivion (though considering it was just one guy - he did a good job), but they do feel somewhat generic once you really get into the game.

I'd also like to add onto the Dragons - they are annoying to fight. Every time I get ambushed by a dragon he flies straight up in the air and circles me for a good 5 minutes. Then he touches back down for a quick flame/frost attack and then he flies back up in the air - rinse repeat. Only until when he's at <25% health does he finally come to actually fight. You fought one you've fought them all..

As to the topic - Personally, I enjoy them both equally when it comes right down to it. But each have their own charms.

I have about 103 hours into Skyrim and there is so much left to do and explore it's almost daunting.  I've taken a week off playing mostly LoL or TF 2 to recharge and get back into Skyrim.

One amazing thing about Skyrim is that as good as it already is give it a year of mods and OMG.

Back in 2006 it had a great impact becouse of graphics where awesome for its times and A.I was praised all over the net.

So i say compare the 2 launches Oblivion was better one for PC that is. But both are dumb down versions for PC also and Skyrim is almost a pure console port with a poorly done UI.

Still Skyrims world and how beautifull and realistic it looks plus the much improved dungeons i go for Skyrim. I see more bugs and limited progress it have after 5 years is staggering but still love the game becouse of huge open world that feels alot more realistic to explore then obvlivion.

But Morrowind wins for me no doub about that, as PC gamer i can't judge for consoles i dont play consoles.

I realy hope MODS will safe Skyrim for PC in years time becouse now it have to many flawes.

Ive played 245 houres now and still playing but ive played Morrowind alot more first year so far but Skyrim is only 1.5months old game so that can change maybe.

    1.Morrowind

In order to determine which Tes game is better u have to put one thing under consideration.Time. I was involved with Morrorwind around 3y and Oblivion 2y+. Right now after 2 weeks of Skyrim i paused playing till some overhaul mods appear that fix critical details for me, like make resting usefull, birthsigns something more than fast lvling mods, difficulty changer mods very weak enemies, very strong bosses ,weapon dmg rebalances mods, etc etc

The diferrence was that both in Morrrorwind and Oblivion i didint had to wait for mods ,here i also noticed a smaller replaybility value due to character system change ,absence of attributes, birthsigns but all these maybe can be changed with mods i guess.

Yeah Skyrim i agree no matter what its a great game ,best graficks /effects/design ever but when u play a game for long time things like graficks u get used to and after a point it doesnt impress u much. Values that remain important though for all the time u play a game is gameplay and addiction lvl over time. I am sure if  the right mods appear a sit happened in previous tes games Skyrim could be the best. So time will tell which was better.

Did not enjoy Oblivion all that much, skyrim on the other hand is something I can actually enjoy and recommend to others. I only played a little bit though, been ignoring it until the holidays are over.

I'm speaking in the terms of in-game in-lore terms here.

I like Cyrodil more than Skyrim.

But the VIDEO GAMES... Skyrim is obviously better than Oblivion.

The theme and general feel of Skyrim and the province represented is done better, IMO.  The distinct Nordic feel, accents of the Nord populace differentiating from outsiders, political titles (Jarl, for instance), the strong cultural difference from Cyrodil, etc., really sets Skyrim apart.  It makes it more unique.  The Nords make it widely known to you that you are in their homeland and they have a certain way of doing things due to old customs.  Only Morrowind drowns you better with its very distinct Dark Elven feel and home province setting.

My problem with Cyrodil was, yes, it's the capital and home of the Imperial peoples who make up the bulk of the Empire, but it was also very generic.  Another lore-breaker for me with Oblivion was the Legion itself in that game.  Plate armor?  Morrowind showed the Legion as having a very strong Roman Army inspiration, and I was very disappointed Bethesda changed that for Oblivion.  For me, it was jarringly breaking for a TES game.  I can't tell you how happy I was in Skyrim when in the intro I see the heavy armored Legionarres.  Bethesda went back to how the Legion was supposed to be.  It's not quite there yet, but they had gone a long way in restoring that.

I enjoyed my time in Cyrodiil.

Looking back though, the world was pretty generic. Not terribly designed or technically poor, just boring to look at and explore.

I liked the combat and magic system in Oblivion. No complaints with gameplay really.

    ***

Skyrim is breathtaking in some places. No, it's not the greatest graphics on the planet, but the world design, atmosphere and sound make all the difference in the world.

I think it's the most realized world to date.

The perk system is a great improvement over what's been used in past games of the series.

    The shouts are great fun.

Combat in general feels better, and the magic system always entertains.

    Dragons.

    Yeah, it's a better game.

    ...cont

Oblivion's and Skyrim's guilds and quests are about the same.

Neither has been able to accomplish what Morrowind did.

So they break even in that regard.

One of the quirks of Oblivions leveling system is you are better off creating a char backwards. Instead of selecting your primary skills to the ones you intend to use the most you pick the ones you will use the least.

So a Battlemage wouldnt pick heavy armour, destruction and so on as primary you would select restoration and lock picking and so on. This means you can really get your most used skills to a higher level without leveling up, they do take longer to increase but this is balanced out by getting your least used skills up faster.

This is the best way to make hybrid and custom classes in Oblivion imo, Skyrim doesnt have the same system though but unless you spend huge amounts of time on non combat skills and level up repeatedly via those skills its harder to level yourself into a corner, but it is still possible if you are not carefull.

I definetely rate Skyrim way above Oblivion. Oblivion's level scale system turned the game for me into an unplayable experience. Skyrim, on the other hand, despite its outdated graphics and numerous bugs, is quite fabulous.
