If daily server reboots happened, these kind of protracted and random down times wouldn't happen.
Yes, yes they would.
This myth of a "perfect" server is just that - a myth.
Ditto. Stuff happens. If the timing is bad for stuff to happen, that makes it all the more likely that stuff will happen.
Murphy must have been a network admin :-)
Windows Servers are like Windows desktops... frequent rebooting leads to stability for periods of time. So wouldn't mind it in the least if they had daily reboots.

Strange, I was in the Beta and had exactly zero communications issues with the developers. They were always forthcoming with update information and set up realistic expectations about downtime. I can't see them doing any less for paying customers.
I came to terms long ago with the fact that even if I absolutely hate the game and have nothing good to say about it - that it doesn't matter, the game will prosper and hold a steady community.
If more people would realize this fact, then you would also realize that defending this game is a null point. Really all you are defending is your own perception of the game. Realize that games like SW:TOR and WoW do fine without it's antagonists and you will rest easier.

If that was true, Windows Servers would not be a dominating platform in segment they are aimed at. Unfortunately for you, they are thus rectify your silly rant.

Windows Server isn't dominate in the data center for critical uses. It's the same poorly implemented thread model it has always been. [Mod Edit]
But I digress.
I miss daily reboots as a ritual of Star Wars MMROPG games. Bioware, please add daily reboots.

If datacenters was target segment, you could have a point.
Windows platform is as poor as is their admin/engineer...
Beyond the DEC Engineers that wrote the Kernel in Windows NT, the Win32 layer over the kernel has always been subpar engineering. And that IIS has to simultaneous interact with the kernel and win32 spells the unsalable system it has been.
Windows Server cannot run more than one or two critical applications let alone a bunch of infrastructure daemons per server. As a result, in a typical server farm, you have to run 1.5 to 3 times as many Windows instances as UNIX/Linux instances for the same type of farm. Heck, Microsoft still uses a FreeBSD backend on Hotmail because the are still unable to convert all Hotmail servers to Windows Platforms some 14 years after they bought the company.

Which is bull, as it's common knowledge the leading architecture in server world is Linux/Unix.
Windows Servers are dominant only in private corporate networks where they offer services to the Win-clients. This doesn't apply to the Internet world, but you knew that already. Didn't you?

Same irrelevant argument as with datacenters. Would Nix/mainframe solution deliver better performance than Windows? Probably. However that isn't the only attribute, it has got other values too.
You can build your infrastructure on Linux, BSD or w/e mix and it might be technically better, but then the heterogeneous environment will have higher operational costs and for most enterprises those costs are simply too high and not worthy.
Windows isn't a tool, it is a solution.
One or two critical apps per server? Why on earth would I want to fill a server with more? It is not that it is unable to host it, far from it. It is just not feasible.

It isn't bullshit. It depends on how you look at it. If you take it from revenue perspective, Windows Server OS has over 40% market share, that is almost like Unix and Linux together.
Shouldn't you be off playing that moving screensaver game Eve instead of trolling a games forums that you hate? Oh wait forgot you don't have to actually play Eve.
No need to defend TOR. The numbers continue and will continue to defend itself from all the haters.
At work we have a hater who does his best to destroy others from playoing the game. Being a defender myself I simply say play for yourself and I will let the game speak for itself. Now he is very quiet as no one agrees with him.
The haters and fan boys both have egos and need to have them satsified by people agreeing or disagreeing with them.
Lets just see how optomistic you are after the first free month ends... You will be singing a new tune then!
I would give you a guest pass to SWOTR, but then I wouldn't be able to find a way to live with myself afterwards....
I'm tired of defending TOR when this is the second time they mess up.
First with the suspense over the pre-launch time and day.
Now a 6hrs turned to 8hrs server maint.
Try to get to their forums sory no can't. If can no can't post.
There are small things that helps quell the frustration but Bio and EA don't want to help on that.
I'm tired of defending the game when they don't organize themselves and don't comunicate to their gamers.
What is the trouble of saying, "sory we had an unexpected problem, triying to solve it ASP"
"We are eating at this moment come back at _:_ _ "
C'mon how difficult it is to just say Sory (this happened)
Keep it up and this game will be out as good as it came
I second that. I bet he is the kind of guy who is always in line in front of you at the checkout ranting and raving about how something isn't ringing up right, holding the line up insisting that someone go back and look. Or perhaps the guy who causes a scene over pickles in his subway sandwich, and eventually makes the Sandwich Artist cry over it. Or how about the one of those crazy people on reality shows that you’re all like who are these people in RL and are they always this way?

They posted on facebook tons about what they were doing. All MMOs have unplanned extension on maint sometimes. OP must just be raging.
