Beta?

DaShizDaShiz Member Posts: 375

Though this is just a rumor, I heard somewhere that a beta weather open or closed will start in december.  Anyone have any impact/idea of any underlying truth to these rumors?

NCsoft is hosting it so major delays and constant screw ups are bound to be invloved.

eh. december is too far away for a beta if the game is set to be released before the end of the year; something tells me that its not a good sign that the beta isnt up and running yet because they wouldnt spend all this work revising the game just to release it without testing it at all.

Is the game still set to release at the end of the year? I haven't been following Tabula Rasa closely, but I thought they started all over after deeming their previous game model under par... is that release date taking that into account?

hrm, the latest news I've seen on sites like tabularasa stratics is that yeah, their definitely tearing the game up and starting over anew (I am greatful that a big name in the industry is leading the project, otherwise I'm sure TR would have been axed long ago)... heck they've even torn down their old website and started anew.

Still, interviews with the head developer dude (I feel dumb calling him lord british, but his mundane name escapes me at the moment, heh) have essentially concluded with him saying that the game will be done when its done and to quit asking. Still, since the game was originally slated to come out at the end of december of 04 (around WOW EQ et al.) and this whole tearing things down and rebuilding them kick had already begun when they announced it would be postponed to Mid-to-late- 2005 I had assumed that they had a plan to acctually get the game released by then rather than just providing a meaningless filler date to appease the media, as I have begun to suspect that I overestimated the devs.

I suspect the developers tried to get away with doing as little as possible to delay the game (early 2005 reports just suggested they were giving it a new coat of paint)... I suspect that since then the devs. decided that there was just something fundamentally not good about the game as it currently played that it was worth scrapping all that work and taking a project delay (did you hear about the hullabaloo with several of the high-up developers quitting in september or something for reasons unexplained? might have had something to do with them doing it one way, the head developer (Richard Garriot! thats it! hah, good timing)... the head developer must have hated it and so when he asked them to redo it "irreconcilable differences" ensued ;) ). My hunch is that they are probably all busting their humps working trying to make a strong showing at E3 and that assuming things dont get delayed or cancelled again we should know lots more come post-e3 coverage. My guess though is that it will likely be delayed again, until Q2 2006. From the fundamental changes they seem to be making to the game I am just not convinced they will make the (current as far as I understand it) Q3 2005 deadline given that they still have to do a whole metric ton of beta testing before they release it (something tells me with all the delays Garriot has taken on the project the publisher likely wouldnt be too happy releasing it just to have it flop because of bad beta testing... then again, the market is getting more and more saturated daily so it might pay to get it out early and fast)

    Hope that helps :)

Here is a little TR update.

First off atm it doesn’t look like TR will make a 2005 release. As we reported (OGaming) back in March, NCsoft did not report TR as being part of there 2005 fiscal year. This would put TR in beta by the end of the year with a 2006 release.

    You can read more at:
    http://tr.ogaming.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=439

Now as for the status of the game, TR is in a state of revision. There is a lot of info to cover here, so I will just point you all to our revision preview page:

    http://tr.ogaming.com/data/2024~TabulaRasa:CurrentPhase.php

That page has a lot of new concept art along with some new screens.

This year we will be covering E3 (I will also be there) so we will have a TON of update starting May 18th.

Also keep an eye open for the new website that should open later this week or next week.
