No. I just wanna punch the people who keep asking for a release date, just to hear them say "when it's done".

I wish AoC War, Eq2, and all those other games would have kept to that statement... Its still sounds like the best elven ballad to my ears.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Personally, I think ANet has had a release date of "when it's done" for far too long.

They should update it to:  "When it's complete."

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

A number of games that have said "when it's done" have still gone on to release something that obviously was not "done". After experiencing with SWTOR yet another game that is o.k., but could have been much better with more development time (probably another 6 months, plus how ever long it would have taken to completely redesign the level 1-10 zones and content), I'm now happy to allow ANet as much time as they need, with in reason.

I get the sense it is not just hyperbole with Arenanet when they say "when it's done" and if they actually stick to it, the wait should be more than worth it, no matter how much I want to be in the game right now! :)

How about:  "when we think ur rdy for it n00b"

    Charr: Outta my way.
    Human: What's your problem?
    Charr: Your thin skin.

Personally i think that ArenaNet is behind in their development in the game. There end of the year annoucnment didnt seem very convincing and i think they are going to drag out the release of the release date very long.

I would rather them take thier time and  release something thats complete rather than a steamy pile ridden with bugs and half implemented features. Hopefully NCSoft doesn't put too much pressure on them to get it released if they are behind...

There really wasn't much for them to talk about, because all they are doing now is tweaking the major things (like the professions) and adding the lesser features to the game. Because they've pretty much told and shown as every  major feature of the game, except WvWvW & guilds and I bet they are saving that till PAX East & GDC.

"Gamer.nl: Players have been waiting a while on the beta of Guild Wars 2. Meanwhile, the closed beta began, how long will it take everyone to get started?

Mike O'Brien, ArenaNet founder and director: We're very excited about the current status of Guild Wars 2. The reactions of players who participate in the closed beta are overwhelming and we are the game at the moment to fine tune with their feedback. As you know we check during the development of a game everything several times. We put the beta is only available for everyone when we know that our goal in the closed beta have been achieved. We know that our fans want to Guild Wars 2 to start, but we want them to get the best possible playing experience."

From a business point of view, SWTOR came out at the best possible moment - long before Guild Wars 2 and long enough after Rift.

TOR does not have the longevity to hold players. So their best bet is to get massive box sales, maybe good 2nd month subs and then quietly merge the servers after the mass exodus that GW2's launch will bring.

That's the "cut our loses and grab as much cash as possible in initial box sales" strategy, which we have seen from far too many MMOs since the release of WoW. With TOR, EA had the money to extend development "until it's ready" and I have to think that given more time and resources, Bioware could have produced a real long term contender. Of course, EA typically puts flash profits ahead of long term revenue considerations. They may have the money and resources to produce a killer MMO, but they don't possess the corporate mentality.

I don't think we'll see a massive exodus in SWTOR when GW2 is released. These games are just way too different.

The term "When it's done." is misleading aswell. Id Software were the first to use this phrase and many of their games where not done on release. Just look at Rage's issues on the PC. It's a term that is used to avoid giving the "We don't want to tell you."-kinda answer.
