Actually, given then time frame they are setting the game in Rome was in no position to walk all over the Barabarians. Good era selection by the devs.

As for me, I don't plan on killing every Barbarian I see, I mean....someone has to clean my floors and what passes for a toilet :P

"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

True they helped defeat the Roman Empire after being defeated and ruled by them for hundreds of years.

Legio XXIV will kill you , and burn your villiage, simple as that.

unless you have some sort of lucrative trade deal or help my political career.

Yeah. You think it's so easy to *bam*, just like that raise a city from the ground up and command an army of hundreds?

  • knightknifeknightknife Member Posts: 384
    no I will get help

Even with a large amount of players, or a large guild, it'll still take a very long time and use a lot of money and resources to build a city. Also including the costs of the upkeep of the city its going to be EXTREMELY hard and take EVEN MORE players to get an army of NPCs, and i doubt enough people will be interested to spend their money on that.

I'll be Tribune Angusticlavian in charge of logistics in the 33rd Legion once I gain my citizenship.

We'll be stationed in Pannonia, and Legio Draco (the 99th legion :p ) may well be there too.  I have a feeling that any hostile barbarians there won't last long...

I am holding you to your words knightknife. When we meet it will not be as allies. (If it makes a barabrian understand easier I am asking to fightimage ) I am kidding, kidding! Actually I may even let you join my clan...as a front front line soldier!

It will be possible to build a small village, but a city will be rather difficult, I recomend joining an existing guild.image for protection and for numbers.

EDIT: Thanks for deleting my double post, wont happen againimage

You can find numerous guild sites by looking at the list of guilds in the Roleplay forum (although some of those are out-of-date), or here.

LIKE OMG! THE BARBARIANS DESTROYED ROMEZ. teh big 11

Listen up, you weak minded fools; Rome fell mostly because of internal issues. Barbarians were just part of the problem. And also, Rome didn't fall for a THOUSAND years, and that was just the city. The Empire went on for 2000, by far the longest standing empire the world has ever known.

The barbarians are just that; barbarians. Eventually, they will gain the upper hand, but once they do, Europe will be in total anarchy until Leonardo Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, and the rest of the ninja turtles hit the scene. (Joke.)

Wow, it's kinda poor when you have to point out your jokes but point taken. However, just because the game is accuratly set during a specific time period doesn't mean it has to turn out the same way. Jeez, if that was the case you may as well go read a book.
  • GeneralDoliGeneralDoli Member Posts: 71

... you're telling me to go read a book? Hah. That is quite humorous, seeing as how I know more about history than anyone I know. Although, I am just an average person, and people who are "professionals", like yourself, aught to know more than me on the subject of Roman history.

EDIT: And I wasn't pointing out my joke so people would pretend to laugh, but I pointed it out so people don't think I'm a complete dumbass. Thank you for being judgemental, however.

Anyways, I doubt players will make good leaders. Most of the time, they don't. Anarchy will, most likely, reign no matter what happens in game, because players will do ANYTHING. For instance, in an RPG I used to play, NWN, people fought each other all the time with no regard for death. If it were REAL, then they would be scared to crap.

I wasn't telling you to read a book, i was saying that if we knew exactly what was going to happen it would be like reading a book (ie. you'd have no personal input). And frankly i don't find it funny that you feel the need to boast about you're historical knowledge - just a little bit sad.

I second that, theres a LOT of people on these forums and especially on the Roma Victor forums that know an extremely large amount about ancient Rome, they do not go around boasting about it and do not even mention it unless it comes up in a thread. Theres no need to adopt the tone that youre taking GeneralDoli, just calm down a bit ey? Smudge wasnt telling you to read a book and you just reacted for no reason.

I dont think he was telling him to read a book... lol

Anyway I agree with Smudge....I don't know if there will be a story line to the game but all major events are player based and I think it will be up to the Players to decide what happens in-game.

But in truth my personal view....Rome will be the most popular to choose, so Rome will probably outnumber the Gauls (in player numbers anyway). But if you have good experienced players playing with Gaul then expect the numbers of Gauls to be great in their NPC armies. I hope the NPCs will be extremely hard to fight - as in they fight like real players .... not unfair advantages - just are really intelligent!

Anyway I haven't read enough on the game (cause I havent had the chance) but I will check out what its like to lead an army in the game!

  • ArisusArisus Member Posts: 17

There are more barbarians than Gauls. The Gauls were simply the tribes that came from what is now modern day France. Expect to see a lot of player barbarians in Caledonia (souther Scotland), whether they are Picts or otherwise; and also in Germania.

  • Mikey0114Mikey0114 Member Posts: 310

Are there more then 2 factions in the game -

    Gauls and Romans?

If there are... how many and who are they?

  • ArisusArisus Member Posts: 17

There are Romans (which includes the members of all European cultures which have been Romanized as well as people from Rome itself) and there are barbarians, who have refused to accept Romanization.

  • Ferox(SM)Ferox(SM) Member Posts: 169

there are as many factions as there are players who want to be a faction....

Dont think of "roman" and "barbarian" as these hardcoded sides that you have to choose to be like in Dark age of Camelot. Your background is just that, your background.

if you wanted to you could start as a roman... and then fight for the barbarians, or vice versa, This game is about historical accuracy AND freedom.
