I'm calling out all the ads that feature awesome looking games using adult level art, only to put you in control of a character that looks like they're stuck in puberty.
ENOUGH! would it kill a developer or artist, or the budget of the company to actually try doing it right?

Uh, in some cases, yeah it would. At least when it comes to the budget.
The cost of launching even those cheap ass crappy MMOs is rather high.
The cost of launching an MMO strong enough to get a subscription base that is both large and loyal enough to be competitive in the long run is nearly astronomical.
Since most companies will never get the kind of budget needed to be truly sucessful (By EQ/EVE/etc. standards, not WOW's), the only other option is to create and market a game on a crippled budget... and since no one will come and try out a game with a demo/trailer/ad that looks crappy, they tend to look better than the actual product.
Long story short, yes it is freaking annoying, but there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. What is inexplicable to me is why people stick around long enough for the "bait and switch" games to actually make money. Generally, I can tell whether or not a game is worth a try well before I even download the client.
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Philosophy of MMO Game Design
In the "USA Culture", people generally associate coquettish preteens in miniskirts or whatever other kind of scanty clothes with child pornography. Child pornography is wrong in every culture, because girls are usually taken advantage of in order to produce it. The fact that mmorpg.com is profiting off of something that has a likeness to such a horrible thing is actually pretty crappy.
