I'm pretty much with you on that one.  Though I might not be able to wait that long ;) ;)

That's why under my "Waiting for" all I have is Guild Wars 2 cause I believe ArchAge might not release in NA or even if they do plan to release it will be long time from now.

ToR's biggest problem is not the combat. Combat isnt really a major issue in tor. TOR's biggest problem in TOR is lack of high end content. They expect you to role alts to keep occupied. Thats the number 1 problem in tor. The bigger problem for tor in general is, its an oversimplified themepark. That is why it will sink fast.

IF archage acheives all the features that they are promoting, combat wil be fine.

This will be the first true MMORPG since UO.

It certainly has that potential for me. I'd much rather play a game like this, with ambiance and atmosphere, with a world around me, with dynamic weather that affects crops, etc.. with day/night cycles, with the ability to exist as something or someone other than the main hero in some linear storyline, with a community and economy  that is dependant upon each other... yes, I'd much rather play a MMORPG like this.

As Long as this is against the  World , with added conquest then fantastic. If it's just going to be another gank fest why waste a beautiful world all that is needed is a small 4x4 Arena.

I don't agree, end-game contant can be implemented after release.

It is not that easy to change the whole combat system once released.

With Swtors combat hickups, gcd, UI and animation along with the servers, any end-game conent will almost be unplayable.

Archage, if released to us here in the west, will never really succeed if the gameplay/combat isn't topnotch, no game to this day has truly succeeded with a poor gameplay.

If the combat now would be good, and the game would run smooth, then with all the other amazing features Archage has, it might very well go the whole way =)

Thanks to OP for posting this. I'd heard rumors of AA, and now I've gotten to see it.  As others have said, I remain skeptical, in an optimistic way if that is possible.  Hopefully we'll see a sandbox hit.

On another note, I am rather curious about the budget for this project. I can only imagine that Chinese coders and artists receive a fraction of the salary that developers in the US receive.  If this game is successful, will we see more game development work going to China too?

If AA is your last hope then I suggest no longer playing MMOs.

Perhaps the WoW killer won't come from the themepark genre but rather from the sandbox genre? This game looks like a winner from what I can see.

    they had me at

"when you log in different servers nothing is the same"

the first thing they say, the second generation of MMO was limited by guides and rules and that archage is a 3rd generation where the rules and guides are gone.

this is looking alot like EvE style freedome in a fantasy world.

only one thing came to mind when the video finished.

    game development level: asian

(those who browse reddit know what im talking about)

Seriously, back in the day, this was the direction many of us thought this genre would go.   It would be an online persistent "world"...emphasis on world.    The developers would give us players the means and the ability to shape that world.   Yes that includes smatterings of themepark game play, but the real draw to the game is all the other things players can do besides just whack-moles 24/7.    This will be the first true MMORPG since UO.

The game looks ridiculously good - I just worry about it being foreign and the huge localization task.

lets hope not, but at least we will have a heads up on its features with the asian client and not get slaped in the face like with darkfall.

even though this game looks awesome and i will probably end up playing it, just not the first few weeks.

P.S. Happy new year btw (from Montreal Canada 2 hours late :)

may the 3rd generation of MMORPGs be better than the 2nd

    Ditto.  I hear good things.

But still, I hope the combat system doesn't suck and there are actual 'adventures' to be had.  I could really see an 'adventure creator' tool for the players being hugely popular in a game like this.

looks great compared to TOR and other garbage thats out right now, but tbh, GW2 will blow it away in every way. AE's pvp does not look serious.

I have had my eye on this game too, and it really does seem to be the real deal.  I am looking forward to an english release someday.  I am actually learning some chinese but I am good at reading/writing in simplified or traditional, only pinyin (latin) so I doubt I could play on the chinese servers either.

    /agree 100%

This is how I thought the mmo genre would evolve.  This game looks AMAZING but I wonder what kind of computer it will take to run it.  Really looks incredible.  It has atmosphere and at the same time aesthetic beauty that is a credit to the artists.  It's a little anime in some aspects, but atleast for me that doesn't detract.

Unfortunately I see my mmo time waning.  Will it launch before I call it quits...we'll see.

IIf we are going to make unreasonable comparisons i would say that AA makes GW2 look like garbage. But only time will tell if AA is all hype or not and same goes for GW2.

At least use a recent video as reference giving opinions on combat. There's plenty of recent ones out there showing pvp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz9SUV9-dTc just one random example.

I suggest looking into getting  a more wide ranging humor detector.....

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Those who only like sandbox designs (for what it's worth, I go for both) have little enough to look forward to that I don't think this is such a surprising sentiment.

I hope it does well so then a Triple A company will attempt to do the same thing.

    Why?

Well, I don't really want to pay for a Chinese game simply enough. But AA looks great, should've been around 6 or 7 years ago.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

This video is pretty old news on this very forum, but thankfully great many people haven't seen it :)

That obviously means great many people started to recognize and follow development of this promising MMORPG.

Now someone needs to inform Jake Song of this, maybe it will hurry him up to make up his mind about western publisher! :D
