Because they are considered one of the top game developers our there. They have the talent and resources to make a AAA quality mmo unlike comanys like Star Vault and Adventurine. They could have either made something different or make more of the same but they choose the easy route. This game is just a filler mmo till Guild Wars 2.

I'd suggest you try the following - install any other MMO that you happen to own already (ideally one that you can also create a free trial account) and play it for a week (at the same pace you've been playing SW:TOR).  Then see if you feel differently about any of those games.

You may just be tired of MMO's.  I know that when I feel the way that you do right now, it usually just means I'm burned out on the genre completely.  I go play FPS's for a few weeks/months, or my Xbox, or quit gaming altogether.  Then I come back.

good advice for anyone who has 'overdone' the MMO thing.. how many people play various games for 5 or 6 hours a day and then wonder why after a few days.. or even weeks.. they feel burned out..  sometimes i think its important to maintain a hobby that doesnt involve using computers.. and to self monitor computer useage and try and set a daily or weekly limit.. image

    I have like a 34 SI Sorc, 15 Bounty Hunter, and a 8 Agent.

I listen to the story on my main, as I play it mostly with my wife, and I listen to the story when I play with her on guys, but you repeat most the quests, so I hit space bar to skip everything most of the time on my alts.  I feel a little guilty, since this is supposed to be the big selling point, but I have a hard time caring about the story when a lot of the responses are about the same, no matter the choice, and your choices effect almost nothing.  The biggest thing a choice has done that I can see (since I am grouped, from my time in beta, and having to deal with others choices that would be different), is that I let some guys brother die, so I had to fight him...Sometimes you go do something a little different, nothing big and nothing that really has lasting effect that I have seen.  The story is the story, and no matter what box you click, you will be the same place at level 10-15-20-25-30-35...  You get dark/light points, but even those options are limited and sometimes screwy, and the system kind of penalizes people that would 'roleplay', as the light or dark counts against each other and their is dark and light gear....So if you make complex choices, you kind of screw yourself imo....I always pick dark and my wife always picks light....My wife left some brain washed girl in a bug cave, because it was a light choice ( she didn't think it was a 'good' thing to do)...

The game is different and I will get my money out of it, but I don't see the staying power in the game, I guess once everyone is max level, it may be easier to get everyone on the same page, that may be something to help it.

I take 3-4 month breaks from PC from time to time but i never come back with a different preference...

Imo people are just putting 2 much time and hope into these up and coming mmo's that have yet to be released...they build them up for years and then when the release date hits the actual game you purchased and are trying to play is nothing like the game you had envisioned  and built up in your head for years.

I bet that if you dug up some threads on TOR from last year the associated words people would have used then to describe it would be dramatitically different to post release.

I preordered TOR and got into the early access, played till about lvl 25+ish then quit...for the very reasons Scypheroth did...im currently enjoying EvE now image

Lol, in my world being able to change your mind and admit it is a sign of maturity rather than inconsistency. In fact, I'd rather believe people who are brave enough to admit they were wrong than those who blindly stick to what they know is not right just to preserve their "integrity" - which is usually nothing more than bloated ego.

It takes integrity to admit to yourself that were wrong, that you changed your opinion when presented with new facts or experiences. And it takes bravery to publicly admit so.

You are all right by my book, Scypheroth.

Agreed, though I don't think you should come into any games forum claiming that it is the best game ever, or that it sucks, until you've logged enough time in it to know if you even like it or not, or are just looking to say "I told you so".  Especially when you insult other people's opinions pre-emptively.  If and when you DO change your mind, you'll just look kind of hyper.

That being said, if I like the game I will be honest enough to say so, since mostly I've criticized either EA's involvement or the game's dependence on WoW mechanics.  Without having played the game, I'm reasonably certain it's nothing "revolutionary", but neither is Cave Story on Steam, and I love that game.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the non-class quest storylines, especially the side quests. However, some planetary storylines, such as the one on Tattooine was pretty good on the Empire side. A lot of it has to do with the class you choose as well. Depending on what you like most about Star Wars, there's a storyline crafted for you. For example, I really liked the Sith Warrior storyline, thus had no problem plowing through the side quests, whereas the Imperial Agent had me bored to tears, because I could care less about subterfuge and the rest of what goes on with that storyline.

I think my life will be complete (not really) when GW2 launches and all the fanboys on this site come crying about how they were lied to, and it isn't the game they were being sold.

I don't think GW2 will be any different.  You need to accept what an MMORPG is, and like it or move on.  Look at Call of Duty games.  They're all the fucking same, yet people still love em.  Same game, same shit, same story, same weapons, same grind, but still love it.

    MMO's are no different =)

NOTE:  I'm 50, have my set gear/bonuses, have farmmed the daily quests, geared my companions, and completed all hard modes.  I haven't bothered much with "raiding" as it just isn't anything special from what i've seen so far.  A LOT of effort involved in getting enough people with the gear and desire to do it, and the fights are dull.

We fully enjoy 4 man hard modes because we can us FPS style combat to win.  Knocking enemies off edges to kill/fall damage them or force melee to run around while you unload on them is a lot of fun.  NONE of this is possible in raiding.

PvP in this game is bad, runs poorly even on top end systems (I assume server side lag issues), the goals are very boring.  If I could Queue for huttball or whatever its call every time only i'd have fun.  Knocking melee off ledges, but most of the time i'm stuck in stupid control point battles.

I think it's a great game. I've been enjoying it and it's getting better for me as I go. I'm not rushing to 50, as I know there isn't that much to do yet. I work, so when I'm off I play star wars, and it seems to be nice so far.

    well im having some fun.

already lvled to lvl 50 with my inquisitor, cleared all the normal flashpoint, and it was a blast.

U got less instance than said wow(ofc) but they are so nicely crafted that it was very good playing them.

Im in a very big guild, we are coming from 6 years of wow, all together and we are having some cool fun raiding the game as a guild, teaming up for alt's levelling, etc.

The game got a lot of potential, they need to work hard to adress bugs, and ui.

Btw im a little tired of ppl, rewieving the game, at lvl 25 or 30.

It's like judging a game like wow, stopping playing in the barrens.

Pls, don't pretend to know too much of the game if u just see 3 planets of the 19 avalaibles, and run no flashpoint, pvp, hardcrafting or anything.

I can't wait for 20 january, so free months end, and the free haters can leave and go back, to wow, or the craptastic fp2 mmorpgs.

Well I am not going to doom and gloom it yet, but it certainly gets worse as you level.

The way they beta tested put a strong emphasis on the low levels and left not as many testers for the higher levels. So as you level you encounter more and more errors and bugs. To the point that it seems like night and day between the smoothness of 1-20 and the seemingly hourly bugs I run into 40-46.

I encountered no bugs in 1-20, but in the last 6 levels I have had a quest return to my questlist so that I could complete it again with full exp dark side points and item choice rewards, getting stuck on the terrain never happened at the lower levels and then happened only when I went off the heavily travelled path, and now happens even in the direct pursuit of quest goals.

I've had low level crystals tell me I can't use it because I am dark side and then at 40 got two blue crystals that let me install them. I've had high level purple ship items with stats worse than low level ship items that are blue or green, simply because they didn't have as many testers hitting the high levels than they did hitting the low levels.

Granted this will all be cleaned up eventually, but bugs are like cockroaches, for every one a single player sees there a dozen more that he never encounters, so all in all that makes me think high level SWTOR is pretty buggy. Most people I have talked to seem to find the same results as they level.

Does any of this mean its not going to be a success? Nope, but it does give you a glimpse into the unfinished nature of the game as a whole.

Im reading a lot about it being a co op role playing game, also its such a static world.

To those people, I just would say your looking to deep into a game that cant be everything.  If you think the world is to static, what about the great role playing through out the entire game for each class that isnt in any other mmos.  There are weights and levys for things, swtor cant be everything.  I honestly dont understand the debate about the static world.  No mmo has great realisitic worlds, at least not the ones Iv played especially warhammer or aion, even rift.

I play alot of co op games, this game gave me the mmo feel right when I started my first leveling experience on hutta in beta.  Its definietely not a co op feeling, this is a full fledged mmo in my eyes.

Also, I have like 30 games installed on my laptop, all new ones from 2011.  You cant expect in this day in age to throw all your resources(mind, body and soul and interest etc...) into one game and expect it to keep you intrigued for 12 hours a day for years to come, its not going to happen for you.  Let your anticipation for playing the game motivate you after taking a break untill you dont feel so burned out, then start enjoying what made you like it in the first place.  For me its combat, I love the combat style of the game.  When im not that into wanting to play the game, I think of how much I love the combat and thats what I hold onto when I log in and start to enjoy where I left off.

The game is just insanely boring.  I liked it at first thought the cutscenes were cool, but the quests to level were so repetative and boring it was insane.  I finally hit 50 while leveling with a friend and just really dont ever want to log in.  i did some raids and they were boring too.  The whole game is a theme park with a heavy focus on single player while leveling and then the end game is exactly the same as any other theme park MMO.  There are also a ton of bugs in this game.  I will be playing out the remainder of my free time to help guildies until another tank hits 50 then im gone.  I have never been so bored in an MMO.
