Houses will be built near cities so I doubt you can turn them into a castle.
The "pvp" continent allows houding to be built farther away from cities so it could be more dangerous to build there.
My guess is that you can store stuff in there though I have no idea if one's house can be stolen from.
Reason I think this is because this youtube video showw that when one walks close to a dresser you get a different cursor icon. I could suggest that one can interact with the object.
It would be great if you could actually create a city with a player run castle/keep.
That would be awesome.
(nice avatar BTW)
lol, thanks. I found it by chance in 2004 when I needed an avatar for the Lineage 2 forums. Not even sure who made it but I should thank him/her as it's been my avatar ever since.
But "yeah" I'd love a game where one could design their own castel/city and defend it and make your empire grow.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

I've seen that avatar somewhere else. Look up 50% grey on myspace. He makes some pretty good music, but he uses that as his avatar...not sure if he made it though.

You can, if CBT4 keeps going smoothly, we will be seeing the release of Castles and Keeps by the end of the beta. Players pay taxes if they live in player castles/cities but it offers them protection as well.

you can do that.
"Castle" in archeage is bassically deffensive structures (walls towers etc) plus the keep building. ANYTHING else within the walls can be built, including houses
# A GRIM, ODD, ARCANE SKY # ANY GOD, I MARK SACRED # A MASKED CRY ADORING # A DREAMY, SICK DRAGON
AFAIK no they cannot be destroyed by other players.
I know this was debated ,but was not allowed finally.
Remember ArcheAge is going to be mainstream game , so most of really "harcore" mechanics like destroying houses will not be there.
Imho it is good.
I really want some game that will be smart compromise between "total freedom" and "everything disallowed and limited like in themeparks".
If you're crafter situation might be tad diffrent.
AFAIK house (maybe certain types?) can have 'safe' small piece of land for some grain / cow / plants that cannot be destroyed / stealed by others , BUT this piece of safe space is small , if you want to "craft" bigger qualities at same time of trees / plants ,etc you need to do it outside of safe area ,and others can steal / destroy it. They can be punished for that via "printed criminal footsteps" system.
Preety smart compromise imo
EDIT:
Not playing in beta unfortunetally ,so I am basing my info from second hand sources so correct me if I am wrong

Thanks. Adjustments can be made and I suspect will as the game goes live and the motives of the playerbase become more obvious. By the sounds of things, the game is stepping away from the FFA model and is going to confront the griefers with hard mechanics. That being the case, Archage has a prayer.

I do believe it's been said that territory owners on the 3rd continent can decide what is / isn't on their land. So if you build up a city but sometime down the line your territory was conquered, your housing could be destroyed there?

Sovereign rights. Casual players won't build there, that doesn't really strike me as being an issue. as long as they have an alternative.
Any content that is tied to PvP is locked out for those unwilling to PvP be it because they are the notorious carebear or be it because they simply don't have the time or the desire to dedicate the time to the PvP. If they have such content for PvP driven people who can afford to dedicate the time to those systems and they really think there is a demand, it's just a part of the game others can and will ignore. Much like high sec players in EVE ignore all the null chatter and attempts to lure them out to null, people will if allowed to ignore these contested areas.

They are also looking at making houses of different sizes and shapes to cut down on the monotony.
