i believe if you kill a player that isent flaged for pvp you leave a "footprint" kinda like a finger print. the more you do this the more "footprints" you leave and they give you some sort of point. what the points are i dont know fully but if you get so many of them then a warrent for there arrest will be issued.
now how long there jail sentance is i dont know. but from what if read this system needs tweeking. theres a CHANCE to leave a footprint and you need to get like 100 points or something like that. someone did the math somewhere but if the chance is 50% you could kill 199 people and not suffer a penelty. also i believe you as the person they killed needs to report them if they do leave a footprint. so how many will actualy report that person. so the number goes up on how many people you can PK and not suffer a penelty.
now i thought i read somewhere that you yourself could issue a bounty on thehead of the person that pked you. but like i said, not alot of info on it yet. not that iv seen anyway. hope that helped. also check out some fan sites for info.
as far as i understand it. there is a flagged PVP system.
if you both are flagged you do a sort of duel and it gives no PK points. but if you flag and kill a non-flagged you get pk points.
at which point anyone can attack you and not gain pk points for it... but i dont think its fully finished though..
there most likely will be forced guild pvp as there are only a small majority of areas for harvesting resources needed for guild stuff.. like ideal farm land or high ore yeld mountains
so being in a guild might auto-flag you for pvp idk... there isnt alot of info out of AA right now on pvp... that i have read/seen anyway

A bit off, killing people leaves blood behind which is handed in. Footprints are for stealing from people, these are the small 1 point things. Jail time i've heard 30mins-1h (doesn't go away logged off). I'm sure it's alot more than a single PK point per blood handed in.
All FFA PvP is exploitable and it still allows griefers to dominate the bulk of the content.
I won't be able to do any of the things they will use to sell the game, like build a house, a barn, a boat andbecome strong because I will be griefed at every corner by the FFA PvP system.
I suggest reading into the game more to find out what is gonna stop the 'majority' of the ganking, i'm not gonna go into but it's the best anti-grief system ive seen on paper, now wether it actully works is another thing.

I did. Points, jail, blah, blah, blah. It's code for please don't wreck our game. Griefers won't listen.
Lets come back 3 months after launch and discuss this again.
I'm well aware of why Devs want FFA. They don't want to clean up after players. I also know it will fail. Sorry, FFA PvP fails. It's a griefers game and Devs will either need to add flags and build revert mechanics or hand thier game over to griefers. MMO's have been down this road a hundred times.

Im beta testing right now and have only been ganked a handful of times. One guy was 10 levels above everyone around me and started wiping us all away. We then grouped up and 5 level 20s took on a level 33 dude and it was smack talking from there on out.
FFA PvP is only after level 20 and as of right now, its only in certain areas it seems. Anyone under level 20 however can flag themselves to be PvP viable if they want to compete. If you attack your faction, your name goes red for a minute and your free to be killed by any one else without them recieving penalties.
Remember, ArcheAge does not have inventory drops. They have drop-able items in the form of backpacks which are nice loot from mobs, bundles of resources for boats/buildings etc., and or other items that require you to risk them in order to fulfill tasks.
The reason games like DF and MO failed (mainly DF, MO was fail on day 1) is because DF was too hard on its player base. You could work for 2-5 days to build a ship and lose it in literally 5 minutes. Banking constantly, re-gearing after each death is very tasking and annoying and essentially you feel like its time wasted then actually achieving goals (especially when dying). I played as a vet and re-rolled as a newb and you dont truly understand the game unless you start as a newb 2-3 years later.

Correct?
Translation, you don't understand the difference of a well-made FFA PvP (EVE) and badly made FFA PvP (DFO).

450K 8 years in is the destiny of Archeage? Yea, it's going to rock the MMO world. Break all the molds, be the new EVE killer. Tell it to Perpetuum. They were going to be an EVE killer too.
You all assume I came here to somehow bash your baby or some crap. You hope I don't understand FFA PvP and how it regulates progress. I do though and I know the second people see FFA PvP they are going to walk away. It's a death mark.

On the front page there's a link to an magazine article which explains the punishment system. If the player PK'ing is caught or killed he is summoned to court where it is decided if he's guilty or not, otherwise we've been told you can collect blood from where you died and hand it in to give them PK points.
Being in jail has been rumoured for 30mins-1hour, the timer doesn't go down if you're logged out.
So killing someone of no value for a high risk of jail time, is it worth it?
FFA PvP does not work unless there is a political system backing it (aka community driven). Alliance versus Alliance, Corp versus Corp, Group versus Group, etc.
This is why it works so well in EvE.
Now, if you can build cities in ArcheAge, attack and defend them, FFA PvP will work - it always has, because this will force players to band together, forming politics.
And yes, you will still have your small groups of mindless merc killers, but that's life, that's the sandbox. But, if there are no true inventory drops, I no not forsee those groups really bothering anyone.

If this is the system they put into place, this game will fail overnight. You cannot take away gametime for somone playing a certain style. Especially if your advertising a sandbox mmorpg.

Griefers don't see themself as griefers. They see themself as PvP players who paid attention to the rules or lack of from the beginning. I'm not here to QQ about griefers or anything. I staying in EVE for 6 years, it's an understanding even if I don't find forced PvP to be entertaining.
Based on what I see, it isn't FFA because they can't pulverize my house. Yes, they can camp me and that will run off alot of people but if EVE is your defence, keep in mind, EVE by any other name would be viewed as an epic failure. If you forced subscription in EVE and removed Plex it would be a failure by EVE standards. EVE is a rare breed and not something most publishers want to try and tame. It's a very hard game to run and just as hard to play and there aren't that many people left in the world willing or in a position to devote the time you need to devote to fantasy worlds without getting paid. Nobody mentioned the RMT aspects of EVE either. It's not what I would be looking to build my game on but GL to Archeage.
They can and will change the game I suspect. I'm sure there is a way to make it work.

In AA you will be able to create small community and your own alliances, that's what I read somewhere.
Could use the same system as FE but with twice the factions. One factions always at war with, four are alliances and four are nutral. If you choose not to join a faction then your nutral to all. A few areas open pvp to all but most areas controlled. Attacking a nutral player (in a nutral faction) puts your toon only at war with what was a nutral faction for a day. hmmm, maybe an FE/EVE combo...lol
I also like the bounty idea. Factions being able to set a bounty is great as money talks.

The thing is that FACTIONS in Archeage are dynamic. You have two continent factions that are starter ones (and there are plans to allow them to split into multiple ones). You have criminal faction that is enemy to everyone.
Then you have player created factions on the third continent.
Out of STARTER factions: Faction A can attack faction B without penalty. Factiob B can attack faction A without penalty. Faction A attacking faction A increases criminal status. Faction B attacking Faction B increases criminal status. Faction A and Faction B can attack Criminal faction without penalty. Criminal Faction can attack Criminal Faction without penalty. Player-Factions depend on their relations with the target faction as well as laws of the territory.

You can be killed anywhere and by anyone but unlike the other two games there's a real punishment involved.

so realism is what makes someone want to play but actions based on realism will make them quit???
But is realism really what makes someone play? I would say not.
Reality has just too many tools for a game to implement. What games need is not realism but rather coherence and efficiency, in my opinion.
