SWTOR is the TITANIC

Think for a second about this its 2012 and we're on the grand launch on the Titanic, but no we are not on the grand upper deck dinning fine wine in aristocratic setting, no, that area is exclusively for : Bioware, Lucas Arts and EA, gnawing on Nordic Langostin, shit faced on Hennessy Cognac only keeping up with a little baggy of jaj

    *Comic Book Guy* Worst analogy...ever

    Yet another wannabe gaming philospher.

Honestly, I really don't know why people bother. At least  half an hour of your life wasted on a (frankly) incomprehensible analogy.

    Rubbish.

I, in my completely self-interest angle, hope that SWTOR will sink so the major developers stop pushing out WoW-clones out of the tube and try to give us something new and interesting to play.

so far only pvp seams to have issue!cause on the pve front a lot of player are discovering that there are world boss ,some found a low level 49 ish.and surprise it was a world raid boss elite!so far the team that downed it said it was the hardest one they met yet!so are there similar level 50(as we kjnow the difference in power from end game to 49 is quiet dramatic on pvp front i bet it is probably same or more so.but a lot  expected to be spoon fed the content i think!sorry might have to explore!

    - Heavily instanced

    - Group Voice over is not fun during flashpoint run.

    - Companions are great but very few as they have lots of stories attached to them. so less scope for more.

    - 4 Classes.

    - 1 Race(human with different color and horns)

    - Combat response issues.

    - Primitive crafting.

    - 0 UI ustomisation.

    - No dungeon finder.

    - No Addons.

    - Horrible latency spike issue, which is being ignored for quiet some time.

    - Nothing new once you are 50.

    No Pandas.

This game sure is sinking like a rock....

Oh wait, no that's not right. It's only been out a few weeks.

An amusing analogy and one I think could wel prove accurate. I don't want to hate on the game any more as so many people are doing it but if Bioware/EA/Luas Arts turn this game around and capitalize on the initial success and end up with more than 2m active subscribers.. I'd be extremely surprised as things stand.

It isn't heavily instanced, no more so than any other modern MMO.

You will spend 70% of your time in the open world which isn't instanced. Then at cap either the majority of the time will be spent doing open world PvP or Operations, so it becomes a choice of whether you live in instances or not.

I do recognize a Star wars MMO with the likeness, but it is funny enough not TOR.

And the iceberg had the word NGE on the side.

TOR might get a similar destiny but that really depends on what they do post launch.

Because like the game or not, it have the basics right enough. Sure it have bugs but they are not that many compared to most other launching MMOs, post launch is as important as launch, as SWG in it's cold dark grave.

Heh, the Titanic.. why didn't I think of this one? Sure looks like it fits well, a grand ship that ended up sinking on its maiden voyage.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

I think I see where you are going with this post OP. This is a great comparison. SWTOR is JUST like Titanic.

I mean, that movie grossed over 1.8 billion dollars world wide, and it was the highest grossing film for 12 years. It was also the first film to reach the 1 billion dollar mark.  Set lots of opening day records and whatnot.

    I totally get it now.

Am I the only one who is amused by all these doomsdays threads?

All I know is that I am enjoying the hell out of the game right now. I don't know when/if that will change, but you wouldn't eat ice cream and make threads about when you think Ice Cream might sucking. Enjoy the moment and all that jazz. Game is really fun if you take it for what it is.

I too would have liked to see Sandbox, but that's not going to happen. SWTOR for what it is, is pretty damn cool. It took me 30-40 hours to really zone into it though. The game does become different once you get off Coruscant/Dromund Kaas.

Free 2 play will never happen I think, due to Lucas Arts. I think that they would rather shut it down than go F2P. It's a Lucas property and they are infamous for being very protective. It's one of the main reasons why my dislike for Lucas Arts is much greater than EA. It's a shame because they used to make great adventure games.

Thankk God there are no addons and dungeon finder.

Now people need to actually PLAY the game instead of enabling random addons and let them do all the playing

Only between planets its annoying. The phasing is a minimum, even on full servers. The class quest instancing is smooth and mainly restricted to sub-dungeon bits.

I love 'em personally. Your mileage may vary.

    - Companions are great but very few as they have lots of stories attached to them. so less scope for more.

    Wut?

    - 4 Classes.

... and four mirrored ones with a different flavor. Also 16 advanced classes with three skill trees to specialize in each and a lot of diversity in roles between them.

    - 1 Race(human with different color and horns)

     Can't argue with that.

    - Combat response issues.

Can't argue with that but for me it hasn't been a severe issue.

    - Primitive crafting.

Wut? The crafting is deeper ad more compelling than 95% of themeparks. I love it.

    - 0 UI ustomisation.

    Can't argue with that.

    - No dungeon finder.

    Thank god.

    - No Addons.

Can't argue with that but I am not much of an add-on guy anyway.

really bad analogy when the game is only a few weeks old, give it a couple more weeks and then you can use it :P

for me personally this MMO failed to capture my attention, bought it a week ago, got to 27 or w/e, already cancelled subscription., money down the drain. Story was great, but because they put so much focus into story the gameplay failed, creating another WoW clone with a Star Wars skin, oh sorry, not exactly a WoW clone, WoW had more classes. The lack of Classes and the downright TELLING you what you should do in the game (Tank, DPS, Healer) is just rather insulting in my opinion.

Let me clarify, I understand the 3 class types have been mostly created by the player community, and it is indeed very successful combat strategy. but if the game designers continue to program the game for this style and only this style, theres no room for the player community to test new strategies and roles. (which is why im hoping Guild wars 2 recent claim is actually true, kinda doubt it though) thats how i feel at least. >_>

At what point in this movie do I draw my Twi'lek smuggler like one of my French girls? On that note, when do I get those French girls as the reference to draw my Twi'lek smuggler?

A good analogy,  since there will never be anymore starwars films, then like the titanic, this ship was set to fail the moment it was released.

not that I desire it to fail, in fact I desire any new mmo to succeed, but if Star wars, star trek, Marvel, DC, conan, warhammer are world class IP's that fail to make any successfull MMO, what hope does the future have?

Maybe that's exactly what the game NEEDS! Just replace all the voice acting with the above suggestion.
