visit (http://www.uk.aiononline.com) and select FREE TRIAL (you get 10 days) It will then send you to the NCSoft website where you will set up your TRIAL account. Once done head back to the NCSoft main page and make sure to opt in for the transfer to the GameForge servers. Go to the NCSoft Launcher. Change region to UK. Restart the Launcher and accept the ToS. You may have to reinstall Aion as it is for the UK server. Log in using your new TRIAL account and pick a server. I chose Perento (or however it is spelled). Play your character for 10 days or to Level 20 whichever comes first. I decided to level 3 chars to around 15  piece so as to get away from the main starter areas. ENJOY.

With that said, YES I will be rejoining Aion. It will be something to do in between playing my current sub MMO. I actually missed the game and had alwasy said that if it went free I would return. My only real reason for leaving was the fact that they killed PVP with the debuff for rifting to opposing faction zones. I hope that there are a few tweaks to gear drops (Kromede I'm looking at you) and other aspects. But all in all I know I will enjoy it all over again.

I have been wondering if NA players could play the UK version, thanks for the info. The only question I have is the lag because of distance form the servers going to be substantial? I hope everyone goes back and plays it so the NA version can witness the success and follow in its footsteps!

I edited the url in my post for you since it was pointed out to me by Sector13 that it was incorrect with the www. But as for your queestion; I didn't have any issues with lag while I was playing. If you played on the NA servers without lag (as I did) then I doubt you will experience any. I played with people who had lag and I had none so I'm just assming it was their comp or connection. But from Dec 21 to Dec 31 I had very little problems getting in and playing. No lag and no connectivity issues.

If it was free in NA, they changed that god-awful music, changed the plot (by creating an actual plot) so there is actually some dramatic tension and sense of conflict. Maybe.

I only experienced lag in abyss upper lvl when the wars were going on, due to the extreme amount of players, so i should be good. I'll probably roll a bunch of charcters to 19 so i am closer to my deva gear when it releases. maybe we can play together and do some black claw or wtvr its called runs.. lemme know DLing now

The soundtrack is quite good, not as good as L2 but pretty good.

I never had a chance to try this game before because the subscription system didn't appeal to me, if it's really going f2p in Februrary than yes, i'll try it.

  • Lord_AthonLord_Athon Member UncommonPosts: 165

Of course I will. But those monthly/gold fees are strange. But never the less AION is still (for me) one of he best mmorpg's ever made. So let it be "kind of free" :)

The only reason it's still afloat is the newbies playing havn't graduated to anything better.

I will be re-visiting the game when it goes f2p and is accessible for NA players.

I used to play Aion a while back, but after reaching end-game decided to move on to new pastures. However, after hearing that is going free-to-play in February, I thought that it would make a nice diversion from my main sub-based MMO. I definitely have some fond (and frustrating!) memories of my time there.

Who else is planing on popping in again come February? Also, has anyone worked out how much you would need to spend in the cash shop to outfit your gear? I think I remember hearing that there will be something that you can use so manastones don't break or something like that.

Is it still a massive grind to level?

    Then not me.

The only skill required in Aion is learning how to go to a hacking site and download the hacking mods for Aion (radar hack, animaion speed hack, glide hack, stealth hack, etc). You will then roflstomp any legit players who will complain to NCwest about you. Dont worry though, it will be months before they ever actually ban you, assuming your one of the unlucky minority of hackers in game that actually get banned (maybe 5% of hackers). And even if they do ban you, thanks to those hacks, youll have a fully geared out lvl 55 again within a month and can just go back to griefing other players.

If you dont hack then you will be at the mercy of said hackers everytime you enter any pvp areas. You can submit screenshots of blatant hacking but a screenshot rarely actually illustrates it. If you send in a fraps video of them hacking, it will be ignored as they only look at screenshots. And if you post either screenshots or links to your fraps vid of hackers on the official forum, it will be you getting penalized for making it public on there forums rather than giving them the information, which of course they will do nothing with.

Frankly, i would never want to go back to any game where hacking is rewarded over legitimate play by those that run the game even if it is F2P.

Aion was awful, the game was bad enough but it was the people running the show that really made the whole rather rotten, as mentioned before the hacking was terrible, the response was lacklustre at best, the game had no depth it was just all pretty pictures and no substance, and the graphics were not all that good once you looked around a bit harder.

Its going FTP because it failed, and failed hard more by management issues but lack of depth certainly didnt help, you can check all my previous post and ive never used the following word ever to describe my feelings on a game, so here is a first.

                                           IT SUCKED, and failed.

I will, I liked gliding around. So much so, that even after i put it down and move on, I am continually trying to glide in other games by jumping and holding the spacear off of ledges...it doesn't go well...

Level grind is a cake compared to end game gear grind, and I'm talking about the original exp rates when the game is released.  So even if they made it super easy to get to 55 now, you'll still tear your hair out from the gear grind.

You actually let the random people that post here effect your opinion on a game you haven't tried, for better or worse?

Especially when it's going to be free to find our for yourself?

    Amazing.

Is there a single PvP game that hasn't got cheat hacks?

If it bothers you so much you are actually better off avoiding these games in general and not just Aion. I see no reason to single out this one title when hacks are rampant all through online competitive gaming. Even SWTOR already has proven working speed and TP hacks.

I personally think it's a pathetic way to 'win' and an admission that they can't any other way, but even I see that cheats and assholes go hand in hand with this genre. If they bothered me deeply I wouldn't play any online game against random internet 'l337s'.

Aion was such a flop that it is NCSoft's best performing title.

right now Aion its still the only mmo interesting to play, but in my way as free cause mmo's are failing heavy on demand, they are just paste copy standards , one day its rift (woW clone), next its KOTOR( WoW clone with sabers..) paying subscription to play xit its not more working for me, but if WOW, KOTOR, RIFT and AION goes free my choice its AION as first and lone answer. the others 3 i really have no kind of interest to put my hands on then again.

  • HestiaHestia Member UncommonPosts: 119

I would give it a try only IF it DOESN'T put out a cash shop/boutique/item mall that gives out power ups/leveling items/manastones/etc. which I doubt they wouldn't do that. The game will DEFINITELY become PAY TO WIN if it goes Free to Play.  AION is great, I began playing the NA AION around mid-November. I would suggest purchasing a cheap version of the game over amazon. :)

Although, having said that just by looking over the "features" of the EU F2P, http://www.aionfreetoplay.com/website/features/ and http://www.aionfreetoplay.com/website/featuresdetails/ , it is quite unfair for those who cannot pay for the "Gold" package having to get the instance cooldowns, etc. I would still stick with the subscription. image
