Welcome to EVE

I see many posts here, slating Eve, from those who joined and left because its not for them, or those who didnt even try it.

I'm going to share a story that happened today.

A typical day for me involves logging in to voice to check if the systems are secure, then logging into the game. I normaly rat for an hour making my 50 million isk for the day ( for those interested I run the Hubs in a tech 3 cruiser in upgraded 0.0, forlorn and forsaken hubs make good isk if you do not have sanctum filled space) then either working on an alliance project ( either helping mine, moving items or manufacturing a fleet issue ship).

Well today I logged in and was told the system was clear, logged in and a hostile toon in a thanatos carrier  was sitting right next to me. I called into voice, but the pvp fleet was busy  so I had to engage myself. In system there was 3 friendly pilots who was on voice but all 3 lacking in pvp experience completely.  We had my legion fitted for anoms, a stilleto and an onyx, the other pilot was in a rorqhal in a POS.

The stilleto warped to my location after we fleeted up, and started locking the carrier pilot who at this time had light drones out ready. We started shooting some of the drones, when the onyx warped in and warp scrambled the thanatos, while the stilleto warped off and went to reship. taking out many drones, we started stripping the thanatos of his weapons, when he recalled all his drones and released 10 fighters. Taking one out I was taking heavy damage and had to warp off, by this time the stilleto pilot had come back in his tech 3 Loki. Me and the Loki kept tag teaming each of his fighters till he had none left, asnd was a sitting duck.

After 25 minutes of shooting our pvp fleet made it to us and finished the carrier off. My heart at that point was racing so hard, and the other 2 pilots who engaged with me was so overjoyed in voice chat that it took over an hour to calm the situation for a debrief. I don't pvp much, and the adrenaline of that moment made the game worth playing for me.

It's moments in this game that change it from a time based grind fest, to a completely new level of gaming. While my daily routine might seem like a bore, it can change in moments, making the game so diverse and adaptive.

If I could give new players some advice, i'd say this:

1. Specialize. You can and will match your oponent in a fight in a few short months. Skills are capped and you cannot make your toon better once you reach a certain point, only adaptable into more situations.

2. Join a player run corp. Not just any old corp that says we want members! Really research a corp, the benefits it brings and any other things that come with it. For example some corps are "red" to each other, and you cannot enter certain space safely if your in a conflicting corp. Active corps with active training programms are what to look for.

3. Do a bit of everything. Start small and build up, I know I said specialize but untill you try everything you won't know what to specialize in! PVP in frigates, Mine in a basic ship, haul in a tier one industrial, ect ect.

4. Dream big, Aim short term. The road to greatness is a long and winding road with many pathways. You want to be a CEO of a thousand man alliance? start by leading a 10 man corp to its first billion isk.

5. Time is king. Anything in game can be got with time. Nothing ingame can get you time. Use all your assets, and work your time well and you will progress much stronger than anyone else. The same is true for real life as well, but I dont want to get all mystic guru on you :P

No other game I can think of has the scope of Eve. While other games might do an area better, Eve has the whole lot, if you have the will to get there.

For those who wish to flame eve, I just ask why are you on the eve section of this website, do you not have better things to do with your TIME?

Best thing about Eve is that people can play for years and have totally different experiences. One person might run missions in high and low sec, other might do corp pvp in 0.0 , while others like myself live in a worm hole and do sleeper sites and mine.

No such thing as "end game"

This is also exactly why I don't play eve (anymore).

Exactly. Those with imagination will enjoy the game. You want to create an industrial powerhouse, you can. You want to be a bounty hunting Role playing pirate hunter, you can. You want to earn the trust of a thousand man alliance, only to topple them from the inside out via theft, you can. There are no limits on what you can do, if you work on something hard enough, CCP can take notice and add further parts to your game.

Those who are easily bored, Eve is not likely for you.
