They will lead you in the right direction. If you don't have a SB acct, then I'll just let you know that military training and ambi cannot be taken on a mage, and shopkeeper's apprentice is a really bad idea. The first line looks good, the second line is impossible, heh.
What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?
I hope this post reaches you before you try to roll that character.
At first SBs character creation (and later development) can seem overwhelming, but dont worry, you will get the hang of it. With that said, your first character will most likely be gimp. Dont worry about it though as almost *every* SB vetern's first character was gimped to the max. As I said, dont sweat it, because characters and rerolls are cheap. This game is about pvp, not pve - so leveling to an appropriate level is easy once you understand the basics.
Anyways..in addition to what the above poster said - if you are on a trial account and cannot post in the Channeler forums, you CAN however post in the "Ask the Advocates" and "General Discussion" forums (I think). Be sure to mention in that post that you cannot post in the class forums so the moderators dont move it (so you can follow up post).
Under no circumstances should you take the Shopkeepers Apprentice rune. Its pretty much a waste of points and is only useful for the first week of a new server (when buying ToL seeds and Deeds from NPCs..who usually will charge out the ass). Also, Military Training is +5 Light Armor, which you cannot use as a mage channeler, although you can as a Healer based Channeler. Another thing to take in consideration is that Channelers are among the brittlest of mage characters, even more so as an Elf, so you may want to consider a small Constitution Rune at start up for additional HPs (wont be much) and Stamina (will help you fly longer) (THATS RIGHT, YOU CAN FLY IN THIS GAME). And you cannot take Ambi rune as a mage *although* Elves have a racial rune (Bladeweaver) that automatically grants you Ambi, even as a mage. BUT - Archmage and Bladeweaver cannot be applied on the same character. So as an elf mage - you will definately want Archmage over Bladeweaver.
Anyways, hope this helped. All this being nice and helpful stuff hurts so I must return to my normal routine of making stupid and worthless posts.

Heh, half of that isn't even possible, if you have a SB acct, go to the official channeler forums at http://ubbforums.ubi.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=sb_chan

Take care, and enjoy.
